And, We Have Our Offense

The Oline could disappoint, although I like our OL depth more than others (no team has starters lined up as depth pieces).

Also Strong will have to be good as a 3rd down back since Bolden is gone and White may never play. Stevenson could help on 3rd down, I assume, since his hands are very good. It will be interesting what happens on 3rd down with the RBs. JJ?
I think Strong is going to be fantastic but they also have Ty Montgomery who IMO they got for White insurance...

Thanks. I forgot about Ty. He still has to learn the offense, so I hope the Strong beats him out, Stevenson already was in the system for 1 year.

I think Parker has the immediate impact on the offense as he's sort of a 1-ish receiver at his best. I don't see Thornton getting a ton of snaps, especially earlier in the season. Bourne is likely to emerge as the team's #1 receiver. Meyers is adequate but they really need to upgrade at the slot which is why I wanted them to move up further in the 2nd for Metchie. Or grab Khalil Shakir who slid into the 5th round until Buffalo traded up to draft him... sneaky great pick.

Billy & Little Matt had THREE chances to grab him ahead of the Billdos... But who needs a security blanket for Mac in the slot when we can have JackOff Jones & a small, Practice Squad-caliber QB who we all hope NEVER PLAYS A MEANINGFUL DOWN FOR THIS TEAM, EVER?

Right, putting it in that light, drafting Zappe over Shakir was really dumb.

???
Perhaps we should have a poll. I really like our OL. However, I think that our OL depth is among the WORST around.

Oh yeah...I agree. Strong is more talented in every way.
So, you think that Strong is stronger than Montgomery as a STer?

Montgomery was signed to replace Bolden as a STer.

Yup, we saw what happened the year when Bolden's ST wasn't filled.

Or, do you think that Belichick believes that Strong is good enough to replace a top STer.

If Montgomery is cut, it will be because Belichick found a top veteran STer as an upgrade, NOT because a rookie RB will be good enough to be one of primary STers.

PLEASE NOTE
That I am not saying that Montgomery will make the team. What I am saying is that he is not making the team based on Strong's pre-season play at RB.

Why is it the worse around? You have graded Miami, New York, and Buffalo's OL depth and we are worse?

You also think 32 year old Malcolm Butler is making the team over Mitchell (even Patriots.com shows the depth chart with Butler as a backup), so we have to take your predictions with a grain of salt. ;)

In this discussion, I predicted that Belichick will keep a ST specialist to replace Bolden. Obviously, all are free to disagree. Many do. Many predict )year after year after year after year) that Belichick will keep fewer special team specialists. I didn't make any [redictions at running back except that Strong wouldn't push Montgomery off the roster (any more than he'd push Bethel off the roster)

Also, I never predicted that Butler would make the roster.

To be clear, I think that the locks (if healthy) are the Mills and the 3 Jones boys.

The rest are competing for the last CB roster spot (or even the unlikely two). I suspect that Butler has the edge, but I have no strong feelings on the subject. I certainly could see Mitchell winning the spot. I am in the minority, but I wouldn't be shocked if Williams makes the roster again.

FINALLY
I can only be amused by the idea that we should ignore a poster's analysis and early roster because of the patriots.com depth chart. That source is not high for accuracy for most of us. And that is NOT a criticism.

I understand for you 30 year olds don't belong on the roster.

For Belichick, 30 year olds have been brought in for a year or two dozens of times.

I don't mind this, better than having a roster spot that does not see playing time and adds no on field value. Last year was a hard lesson on the importance of special teams and how starting field position impacts games. While not sexy, it makes sense to have some specialists for that part of the game. Having dedicated crash test dummies helps players from the offensive and defensive parts of the roster.

Ya know...there is kind of a push to get younger and faster.

We had STers-Only on the roster last season, yet our STs outside of Folk were still horrible.

A lot of that had to do with the incompetent coaching they were given, but the coach is the same unfortunately, so maybe this season we should try having fewer STOs and just use the kids there while they learn their pro positions... Can't be any worse...

We need both talent and coaching to improve. All three phases of the team have come under criticism for bad coaching and lack of on field talent. I agree that coaching seemed to be an issue last year, coaching alone will not solve the issues. My belief is that not all players have the ability to be effective on special teams.

Joe Judge's special teams were good enough to get him a head coaching job. I would guess BB will have him involved this year.
