This is either going to work really well and catch the league by surprise as it did with the 2019 Ravens - or things will get ugly. I say it will work really well. :)
Sounds like trying to use Bourne in Deebo role. A lot of what's been discussed sounds like Shannahan scheme.

Regardless of scheme, you need talented offensive weapons.

Pats O weapons in Tier 7 (out of 7).

BTW, this certainly doesn't sound like a typical Pats player response. Bourne has his own Youtube channel and films everything he does. It's different. I like it, but must drive Bill crazy, lol.

I’ve noticed the same. Bourne is not shy about talking to the media. Really stark departure from past team norms.

I like it. Dude has swag. Showing some leadership. So far, backing it up with performance on the field. That’s what counts. I’m not so sure it will drive Bill crazy as long as KB walks his talk.

I don’t think Bill has ever cared about that unless it effects the team negatively in his eyes. Cam wasn’t an issue either.

Sure for non-football stuff, but Bourne said more about what they're doing on the offense than Bill has said in ten years.

Somewhat true. A comeback from a deficit of 17 -3 is different than a deficit of 45 -31 even though both situations are a 2 touchdown deficit.
No it isn’t

The defense just wasnt clutch last year. Of course the last 2 bills games were really bad too. But it was concerning that even from an optimist point of view who thought they mostly had a very good year we failed to make stops in all but 2 big moments.

Week 1. fins got 2 first downs deep in their own territory, ran clock out
Saints. Failed to stop them after we pulled within 8
Tb . Allowed the go ahead fg
Dal. Gave up winning score
Texans. First clutch stop late , set us up for the winning score.
@buff. Second clutch stop late, the weather conditions should be noted as well.
Indy. Long run at the end instead of a stop
Buff. Dropped int, then td drive when we got within 5.
game in miami. Failed stop again

So out of 9 final drives in close games, the defense only came through in the clutch twice. One of those was the wind game which clearly affected the passing. Pretty odd since i felt they were strong most of the year. Then again It could be the same issue as on offense where we may not have that guy we could count on for the big moment, while having a good amount of talent overall . Or maybe the playcalling? Not sure tbh. The 2nd buffalo game was a microcosm of this where it felt like we forced alot of favorable 3rd and 4th down situations but allen outdid us almost every single time when it was all on the line. So close but so far away.

Overall i think it was a pretty talented team that could be outstanding when hitting on all cylinders but in the end didn’t have the ‘horses’ to consistently get it done or overcome obstacles when things went awry. I like the additions offensively given that onwenu can somewhat replace shaq and strange can be karras. Defensively its up in the air. I like the added depth at cb which was imo our biggest downfall last year and we have gotten faster/younger at lb but remains to be seen if we are ok there.
This is myopic. Picking out drive and saying the defense failed to get a stop when they got many to allow the comeback is short sighted.

Oh really. Let's refresh your last memory shall we; this is what i remember.
And I quote "a Buffalo barrage". Buffalo's O-line Dominated the Patriots D-line, full stop. Buffalo rushed for 174 yards (6.0 per carry) and passed for 308 (12.6 per catch). Lots of lanes, lots of time.
Lawrence Guy
Deatrich Wise
Christian Barrmore
Davon Godchaux
How does that “refresh your memory” and prove the defense is “unchanged”?
50% of the defensive snaps in that game were taken by players who either are no longer here or now buried in the depth chart.
That’s significant change.

More Shanahan offense talk, Wynn, Marcus Jones, Thornton, Agholor, JSmith, etc. On the offense, theory is Shanahan offense is simpler for Judge & Patricia to grasp than the many little details & quirks of the E-P/McDaniels offense. So we may be dumbing down the offense for Judge. Got it.

I'm for a change in offense. Josh's offense was great at starting drives with those quick consistent yards on first down, but I see much room for improvement. Josh's offense is clearly difficult with the documented years of guys not quite getting it and I think this will be beneficial to have something simpler. Under Josh we dink and dunked way too much and that requires error free football to sustain long drives and that is asking a lot of anyone not Brady. We clearly want larger chunks and added speed will also help with that.

I'm actually happy to hear about our run offense adding from Shannahan. I have never really liked our run game under Josh aside from that one year with Cassel. I always wondered why we didn't borrow run plays from other teams. Our offense could easily take a step back, but improvements to an already decent run game could be huge. I choose to be optimistic unless we start 0-4. I will go full sky is falling lol.

Lastly, I hate Harry because he sucks, but it is sad that it seems he has just accepted his fate. A new offensive coordinator could be all the change he needs and he doesn't show up. This is why diva wrs are superstars. Their large ego doesn't allow them to quit.

I don't think they are doing it for Judge.

They are doing it so they can realize a faster ROI on FAs and draftees.

Same here, all for modernizing our offense. Obvious upside is taking advantage of the talent of players (athleticism) like Jonnu, Thornton, Strong. The downside is you kind of lose what was learned of the old scheme in the first year with all the FAs. Offensive coaches are still a concern for me.

It'll be exciting to see how the offensive scheme develops: full switch or mesh of concepts.

Could just be Verbiage and a few different wrinkles, I DOUBT Bill would ENTIRELY scrap the old system.
It’s Belichicks system.
Those who have paid attention understand they following
-Belichick dictates the system
-Belichick consistently self scouts, reevaluates and modifies his system
-Most years it’s a tweak and some years it’s more involved
-Belichick has a vast group of football “friends” that he shares ideas with and will incorporate some of what they do. Urban Meyer was a good example. He spent time with Meyer talking to him about his offensive philosophy and incorporated some of it into his offense. He didn’t “adopt Meyers offense” he incorporated concepts. Saban on defense is another example. There are dozens of coaches in the NFL and college who regularly speak with Belichick including McVay, Shanahan and others.
-Belichick has always practiced new facets being ADDED TO the scheme in off season work out and early in camp, as well as using players at positions and in roles that they are not primary in but could play situationally.
-Without question McDaniels thinking and preferences were part of the evolution of the offense, so with his departure it’s an ideal time to do a reboot, just as was done when he left the first time.

Those who spend their lives searching the internet for something they can complain about will post things such as “we are throwing out 20 years of BBs system and letting judge create one” or that since the WR who ran the ball 12 times for 125 yards is excited that he’s had the chance to run it in OTA DRILLS, that we are turning him into the WR who ran the most times, or some other such nonsense.
Let’s not suffer the fools.

This is a very exciting development. Belichick has reviewed his system and it’s evolution top to bottom and is making adjustments to it. That will only make it better.

From Lazar:

"The Shanahan-style concepts are becoming an industry standard at both the college and pro level, making for easier transitions into the Pats’ offense for newly acquired vets and rookie receivers. By most accounts, the passing concepts are much easier to execute for receivers since there are fewer true option routes, and the designs clearly define the post-snap reads."

"New England’s plan to open up its offense is coming to light this spring, but it remains to be seen if it’s a full-on transition or simply dipping their toes into some fresh water."

This is a different system from what Belichick has run for 20 years. This isn't some tweak, that's just nonsense.

Belichick: "we are doing a lot of things different."

As far as making changes to the offensive scheme, why not just use more of what ALA does since it's similar to the Pats system, and Mac is already familiar with it. Going more to an outside zone run scheme & incorporating the Shanahan schemes is very QB friendly, so Mac should benefit.
