Third String But Playing on Special Teams
I'm fine with a 5th WR. However, that is one of the choices. We might keep a 3rd QB or a 9 OL A QW OFTEN DO.

OFFENSE (25)
3 QB
4 RB
4 WR
2 ST (Slater and Montgomery)
9 OL
3 TE
All I know about Montgomery is what I have seen of him on offense. How does he contribute in special teams? Is he a returner or more of a chase and tackle guy? If he's a returner I think they could just use Thorton or Marcus Jones and save that roster spot. I think he might be a more likely cut than any of the 5 wideouts, but that might be because I don't know how good of a special teamer he is.

Last year Hoyer didn't make the initial 53 man roster but he quickly was brought back and I believe that was for cap reasons. Any chance they do that again? If Zappe looks good maybe they can throw Hoyer on the practice squad.

He was a kick returner earlier in his career, but re-invented himself as a coverage guy last season with 10 ST tackles. He was one of the Saints' gunners last season, but I can't imagine he's a candidate to do that in NE with Slater and Bethel returning. Probably end of the line on punts, maybe personal protector.

Offense looks interesting.

All falls on how Mac improves from a strong rookie season.

If he takes a leap forward I can easily see us having a top 5-10 offense again.

I respect your contributions very much. I learn a lot from you throughout the year. Thanks!

a replacement for Bolden as a STer, probably as a personal protector, as you said

Dolphins... successfully reshaped their WR and RB rooms... still they need Tua for it to all work... I have them only marginally lower than the Patriots.
Jets... anything will be an improvement from last season but the Jets are destined for another last place finish.

Tbh , pats offense looks solid now. "Year 2 in system" - improvements expected out of agholor and Jonnu. If tyquan is the stretch the field threat we have been banking on , we should be next to impossible to stop on offense . Meyers and Bourne as security blankets are great option. With our RB room, it's really a well balanced offense .

There is huge potential
Hopefully the number of people who underperform is less...

???
What if Mac is about the same as last year? Then I would still expect us to be better than last year? I certainly would expect 5-10.

What you are saying is that if Mac stays the same, then the rest of the offense will REGRESS to the point of having a worse offense.

In my opinion he hit a wall late in the year. I'm sure it's just a rookie wall though so he should be able to at least be at the level he was when we went on our winning streak. That would be ideal

Main things I will be looking for in Mac's game in year 2:

1. More zip on his throws
2. Less check downs when he has decent time in the pocket
3. How he responds when the other team punches NE in the mouth not allowing them to get the run game going

I included Jonnu because he's clearly 2nd on the depth chart but I'm expecting practically nothing from him... he was really bad last season.

I think Parker has the immediate impact on the offense as he's sort of a 1-ish receiver at his best. I don't see Thornton getting a ton of snaps, especially earlier in the season. Bourne is likely to emerge as the team's #1 receiver. Meyers is adequate but they really need to upgrade at the slot which is why I wanted them to move up further in the 2nd for Metchie. Or grab Khalil Shakir who slid into the 5th round until Buffalo traded up to draft him... sneaky great pick.

Patriots running game should be highly reliable at worst.

We should be good. Agholor not having pressure of wr 1 should do wonders this season and I anticipate Jonnu to get lot more receptions and YAC. Henry and Meyers should see lower numbers . But it's a solid group . All proven above average players with a stud running back in Rham .

Sum of parts is exciting . Thornton will probably be a 300-400 yard 4 TD player . If that happens it's a win.

Whoa, let’s not get too carried away. My concern is that if the O line doesn‘t perform we will be pathetically easy to stop on offense. I can see two ways for that to be a problem. One is that the line just flat out doesn’t play well together, the other is that the starters do well but injuries hit and the depth doesn’t step up well enough.

#3 is what I'm mostly curious about

Agree... It's just a possibility and fans are entitled to over reactions.. :)

Lots of ifs and buts this season. Just trying to put an ultra positive spin on it ...

One-If-By-Sea

In the Starting Line-Up
The Oline could disappoint, although I like our OL depth more than others (no team has starters lined up as depth pieces).

Also Strong will have to be good as a 3rd down back since Bolden is gone and White may never play. Stevenson could help on 3rd down, I assume, since his hands are very good. It will be interesting what happens on 3rd down with the RBs. JJ?
