    I'd pick Welker.

I am pretty risk averse when it comes to fantasy and Welker is a proven consistent performer that i can usually bank on for 6+ catches per game.

Amendola has that potential but i tend not to draft on potential in my fantasy drafts.

surely it has nothing to do with Manning laying guys out to dry in the past. Not to mention his decrease in arm strength. As someone who watched Manning a lot last year, He relies more on his receivers making plays than Brady does and rightfully so when you have guys who will take the ball out of the air like bey bey and decker. Seam routes and long crossing routes are going to be Welkers bread and butter with Denver and Manning will not be threading the needle and throwing low like Brady. WW took plenty of shots here with Brady and I promise Its not going to get better in Denver. Go ahead and google how many concussions Manning former slot players have had.

My take is that it all comes down to how much you gamble on a player with an injury history like Amendola. If you are not that concerned about Amendola's injury history, he is the easier pick.

If both Amendola and Welker both are healthy all year, Amendola will likely have better stats. He is going to be Brady's go to guy. Not so much with Manning with Welker. Historically, Brady has always utilized his slot receiver far more than Manning going back to Troy Brown. Brady runs an offense that is more about long substained drives while Manning is more likely to utilize the outside WR and try to pick up yards in big chunks.

Manning, on the other hand, is more likely to have a 4 play 80 yard drive than Brady and when you are doing those types of drives, you are utilizing your outside down the field threat over the slot WR. I don't see Manning and the Broncos revamping their offense for Welker. Manning may throw to the slot more than he did in the past with Welker, but it is doubtful that Welker will be his go to WR.

One thing health-wise going against Welker is that he is 33 years old and a WR who has taken a lot hits in his career. He has the potential to hit the age wall hard and fast this year. Otherwise, he is the safer bet by a lot than Amendola in this area.

    Re: Re: Amendola VS Welker

 I was partially joking with that prediction brother MG; mainly because Manning has a history of hanging his receivers out to dry.

Collie, Clark, Gonzalez and Stokley had all missed some period of time with a concussion or some other head and neck injury.

Welker had 118 receptions last year. He'll be Manning's binkie by week 3.

    Welker.

You don't think WW's size and age are factors? Or working with a new QB?

How about his rapidly increasing dropped pass rate decreasing his numbers and if bad enough, how much Manning goes to him?

Yeah, because smurf sized receivers have such a great history of maintaining production once they get past 30.

I would pick Amendola for a fantasy team over Welker. After all, Manning has lots of other viable targets. Amendola will be our #1 WR and Brady's binky.

If the routes Wikler ran tonight with Denver are any indication (probably not, but I can dream), he's not being used properly. Let's hope this continues.

    Re: Re: Amendola VS Welker

I don't see him seeing anywhere near 174 targets in Denver. Thomas is a top 5 receiver in the NFL and is still getting better.

Manning has always favored outside receivers and used his underneath players as 3rd or 4th options.

Welker and Brady were a proven commodity. I wouldn't assume the same out of Manning and Welker; Fox is also a much more conservative coach than Belichick.

Dallas Clark caught an awful lot of passes from Manning. He is the best comparison.

    Re: Re: Amendola VS Welker

Dallas Clark was a tight end and generally was covered by a LB or safety therefore creating a different type of matchup than Weller will have on a CB. Clark was Jason Witten before Jason Witten broke out.

Do you think Dallas Clark was a 3rd or 4th option on most plays for Manning? I sure don't. He went to that well quite often.

But it's like Tune said, if they keep calling the kinda plays for Welker they did in the series he was in tonight then he'll get 80 receptions this year tops.

    They won't, though.

    Re: Re: Amendola VS Welker

No I think Dallas Clark took LB and safeties deep over the middle or in seem routes, and was a totally different player.

He was a tight end and suggesting he was anything like Welker serves to contradict every person who ever argued against using Hernandez as a wide receiver because it would diminish his effectiveness since he wouldn't have the same matchups.

I'm not saying you do it but in general I never understand why people will use a scenario and argue it both ways depending on the situation in order to make their case.
