All five teams who beat the Pats missed the playoffs.

Apologies if this has been pointed out in one of the zillion other threads, but not only did Pitt, Tenn, Miami, Jax, and Detroit lose the week after beating the Pats, but they all missed the playoffs (three of them were sub .500).

I think this illustrates as well as anything that the Pats get every team's best shot every week, which makes this long run of dominance even more impressive.

Counterpoint: It's also good to beat bad teams, but whatever.

It is one of the more bizarre stats I can remember.

    To me, it means..

They had tough time getting up for lesser competition.

Didn't bring the focus and energy to road games.

They weren't good enough to just show up and win

Ironic how all 5 teams lost the following week.

Pats played horrific against the Titans and Lions, poorly in hindsight against the Jags (though at the time it appeared the Jags were a top 5 team). Thought they played decent against the Steelers (losing on last play of game on road) and actually played pretty well against the Dolphins except for 3 or 4 bonehead plays. They dominated most of that game and should have come out with a 10 point win.

In road games they won - played well against the Bear (extremely well in hindsight) and solid against both the Bills and Jets. Gives me some confidence that they could put together a solid road effort if it comes to that,

In 2003, they only lost to 2 teams, Buf ( 5-11) and Washington (6-10 Graham dropped a 4th down pass or there might have been a comeback) and neither of them made the playoffs.

Pats get a lot of other teams best efforts, both from players and coaches. Two of five had several ex pats that helped learn up their teams on pats tendencies.

Miami loss was pure fluke and ended up costing us the No. 1 Seed.
Once they had their Super Bowl win,,,I guess they didn't concentrate as much on their opponents the following week !!!! Haha

Seriously if there was some kind of awards at the end of each season for posters here you'd have my vote. Man, most of your replies are the opposite of lazy but often provide a **** ton of context and insight.

Some of that is because we lost to some bad teams.

And yet we didn't lose to any teams that we played who made the playoffs. It's been a strange year and I don't know what to expect for the playoffs. After the Miami game I thought we were dead and buried. Then we looked pretty good against the Bills, got our bye back and looked dominant against the Jets.

Honestly, I'm glad the Titans are out. Hated seeing Vrable with that smirk on his face after the game. Wasn't smirking yesterday, that's for sure.

Dion Lewis had a lot to say after that Titans win in November. Karma is a bitch.

This is perfect. Steelers are suffering the worst, though. After years of losing, you finally beat one of your greatest rivals. Without your star running back. Surely that's a sign saying this is your year, that no one could stop the black and gold train tearing through everything to get into the postseason. Then, suddenly, you're rooting for a team like the Browns to help you get in, and it doesn't happen. Tragic.

We struggled against non-playoff teams out of the division (2-4).

We are undefeated against playoff teams however. (4-0)

Strange season but we played well against teams we have to face now.

Misfortune happens to teams who beat the patriots this year.

    1. Jaguars- experienced a huge drop-off. Blake Bortles won’t be back next year. Leonard Fournette and TJ Yeldon sat on the bench and Tom Coughlin releases a statement publicly condemning them.

    2. Lions- Matt Patricia didn’t even show up to meetings at the end. Lions miss playoffs for the second consecutive season and they haven’t won a playoff game since 1991.

    3. Titans- Marcus Mariota’s arm may never be the same again. Lost miserably to the Colts with Blaine Gabbert at QB. He proved that he was still the same Blaine Gabbert of old.

    4. Dolphins- that miracle play was the last positive thing to happen to Miami. Lost to the Vikings and lost to the Bills. They ended up firing their coach and Ryan Tannehill may not be back next year

    5. Steelers- The very next week after they beat the Patriots, they almost beat the Saints in the dome. Up until Smith-Schuster fumbled away the playoffs. They still had a chance until the Ravens picked off baker mayfield in the 4th quarter last Sunday. Today it was revealed that Antonio Brown had a meltdown at Steelers practice and fought with Ben Roethlisberger. Brown now wants out of Pittsburgh.

Beat the New England Patriots at your own risk.

So it would probably behoove teams to let NE go 16-0 next season, right? :D
