It's easy, and only takes a few moments. He played in the Big East which isnt exactly a powerhouse football conference like the SEC is. I dont know how you can assume that Wilhite and Wheatley are already better than McCourty is, they very well could be but nothing is definite. Springs showed some promise last year as well. Butler played very well I thought last year, so I think he is a few steps of McCourty and Bodden is our #1 corner. I dont think McCourty is ready to start this season.
The team had many needs that needed immediate addressing so drafting a player that isnt going to greatly contribute (start) in his rookie season was where I see the pick being off. I wanted to see the first round pick be on a player that would start on the team this season to address one of the holes the team has. With saying that I think everything worked out because I think BB found some guys that can make immediate impacts this season and the McCourty pick will turn out to be a very good one in 2011 or 2012 when he is ready to start and be a very good corner.
Obviously you missed the fact that Revis played in the Big East (Pitt)
Jamarcus played in the SEC
Again, the key to football going forward is defending the 3/4/5 WR sets. Only a clown would think Collie/Garcon/Meachem/Floyd are any good. They are just better than the nickel/dime CB's.
The nickel/dime packages are the key to the future. Besides the concept of a starter ends after the first play. Superior coverage packages work against everyone and will allow the ability to scheme in blitzes.
You can never have too many corners
Nickel/Dime are now essentially base defenses against elite offenses
This board is pass rush idiocy. Most likely from SB XLII. The Giants gameplan was impressive but has short shelf life. Has anyone bother to track the Giants since? How did Pittsburgh fare when Polumalu went down?
Coverage allows the defense to backfill blitzes
Blitzes can be schemed.
Over Vince Wilfork? Why??

Word 10chaI'm sorry, but the original poster is a ****ing moron. So many teams were Z from being X-Y. It's pure bullsheet and speculation.

What kind of an argument is that?
I think he wont start.
Therefore its a bad pick because we should have picked a starter.
If he is the nickel that is the same as a starter these days as he will play more than half the snaps.
Did you see Wilhite and Wheatley play. Well no one saw Wheatley play.
Our corner play was bad last year, and we just drafted a justified 1st round corner and you don't think he will start? or at least be the nickel? Because the sucky players he will replace are still under contract?
The Big East has Division 1 WRs too. Its not like he was in Division II.
Are you telling me that Butler after 1 year has proven to be better than first round quality, and that Wilhite and Wheatley have too?
With the amount of needs that this team has to fill yes I would have wanted my first round pick to be a starter. Where else are you going to fill these holes? FA, all of the quality guys are gone and players that get released during training camp well they will be released for a reason. I just felt that through the first round of the draft was one of the better chances to improve our team for 2010, not for 2011 and beyond.
dude, are you serious?
What's the issue? Are you saying you cant get a starter in the 1st round?

I like to keep the board civil, but this is somewhat ******ed.
first of all, all things happen 'for a reason' --- I'm assuming your implication is that any player cut must suck, therefore is done in the nfl.
there are probably a lot of posters crying about our running game who would've wanted tomlinson or thomas jones.
is james harrison the kind of pass rusher we need on this team --- wasn't he cut at one time?
you sound like you think the entire nfl is made up of pro bowlers.
my second gripe is you describe the pats like they're swiss cheese, riddled with holes.
I think this time last season they were superbowl favorites, but apparently losing to baltimore has put the team in such disarray that we need 5 rookies to come in and start.
dude, if you're really banking on rookies to start, you're kind of eff'd.
another gripe I have is with your closing line where you claim the first round was a chance to improve our team over the next couple years.
what do you think belichick did??
did he trade our first rounder for a sandwich?
On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson or the second-best tackle in the draft in Kenyatta Walker, they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 sack last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.
you sound like this guy:
What type of beer do you drink eom? We should have one together!you sound like this guy:
If and when I make it to the States buying you and a few other posters will be on the to-do list!hahaha....I drink whatever you're buyin'.
