the 30% base for Ferguson is $6 million. 30% of $6 million is $1.8 million.

2009 $6 million
2010 $6 million plus $1.8 million = $7.8 million
2011 $7.8 plus $1.8 million = $9.6 million max.

No, an extension is the same as a new contract in the eyes of the league. Whether that extension adds years on and keeps the remaining existing deal in tact (although in this case it can't keep it in tact because it violates the current rules under which the extension is being signed) or is just misconstrued as adding on years (as was the case when Brady signed his 6 year extension with 2 years remaining on his existing deal - basically they tore up that deal and replaced it with a new deal or he'd be signed through 2012. The only thing that remained in tact from his 2002 deal was his existing remaining amortization through 2006 because that never moves unless it's accelerated when a player is cut or traded or retires.

The point is that he threw an inordinately low amount of passes for even a rookie QB. Interestingly, the Steelers that year were similar to the Jets with a smothering defense and a great running game. Roethlisberger had a much better year though.

The amount comes from a base salary of $622,500, a signing bonus of $1.6 million due within five days of July 15, 2010, and a roster bonus of $3.1 million due within five days of July 15, 2010.

That's it. No other guarantees trigger unless and until Ferguson makes it through the 2010 season displaying adequate skill and, more importantly, not suffering serious injury.

Yup, that's what makes this pretty funny, in hindsight. Looks like the Jets and Brick and his agent all agree with us: that he's at best a 'pretty good' LT, and probably not even that. Epic fail by all the Jets folks trying to convince us that he's elite.

I wouldn't go as far to say I think he is mediocre. I think he is a good LT. Nothing more, nothing less. People make him out to be a great or even elite LT though. It seems from the contract that the Jets think he is good, but not mediocre. It does sugguest they are concerned that Faneca did make him look better than he really was and that with him gone and replaced by a rookie there is at least minor concerns his play will drop to his rookie year level where he truly was a bust.
