A Frustrating Observation On N'Keal Harry

Use him for when we desperately need a "jump ball joe" deep interference penalty. have mac work with him over and over on four or five plays for the playoffs.

We are on the same side for sure. we just have slightly different ways of expressing our views about the team. It's cool with me, I just don't relate to some of the exaggerations about how bad the team is. I definitely have my share of criticisms of players and coaches, but I rarely carry them past that game or next play. It just doesn't seem important enough for me to have it affect me negatively for so long. Refs are a different story, I'm still bitter about the phantom RTP against Oakland in '76. Also, any criticism of the NFL league office is encouraged.

There's plenty of places to get negative takes. I just don't get why people who claim to be fans of the Pats feel OK with coming here to be so negative about the team they support, the players they have, and the staff that selects and coaches them. Why not just say a player is a disappointment instead of a bust? Just making an NFL team is a huge achievement, IMO. It means you were one of the best players in high school and college. It's not like we're Felger and we get paid to be a-holes. I doubt people here would call Harry, Dowling, Easley et al a bust to their face.

People on this board get so bent out of shape over f-ing draft picks and do not take into account the high probability for failure picking after #15. Every bust or "bad pick" assessment lacks context.

I look at draft picks as buying stocks/investments. Gotta do your homework up front. How does it fit into your investment strategy short/long term. What are your goals for return. How long do you intend to keep the stock until the service load becomes too much.

I view Michel as a tech stock buy. Decent-sized purchase up-front but you know the risk is pretty high. Great short-term ROI but unrealistic to think taking a RB in the first round was a sound long term investment. In the end it was profitable (good production and won a SB).

Whereas someone like TB12 in the 6th round was avail and his ROI thats akin to a crypto buy for $100 in 2010, you keep investing in the mine and you keep hitting on the hash.

IMO there is no mine to pull talent about. There's nothing like a seam to follow where getting some talent shows you where there is more. Even if they come from the same mine, each human being has different stuff between their ears. Tom Brady being good didn't mean Drew Henson would be good. I suppose you could look at Alabama as a mine, but Mac isn't Tua and Tua isn't Mac, Jalen Hurts either.

To me, that's one reason why I view drafting as a crap shoot. You're always gambling if the guy will make the leap or not. Some who should, don't. Some who shouldn't, do.

Sorry I mean "mining" in the context of an initial investment is made (of said player). Because of the early ROI, the team continues to invest (see bigger contract) with the expectation the investment will outperform (see performance/All-Pros/Super Bowls) etc.

My theory is that the real Harry tragically died between the draft and his rookie season. His family didn't want to miss out on a gravy train so they used a look a like cousin or brother to show up in his place.

Unfortunately the imposter had never played American football.

It’s ok to be critical, but not habitually. A few equate constant criticism of the Pats with some sort of pious objectivity. It’s not.

Only way a trade makes sense would be if a team sees a run of injuries at WR in camp and are desperate.

Pats would save move vs the cap if they trade him. Could be for a 2023 pick as well.

I bet Aaron Dobson is better than Harry right now. His injuries are probably healed and his body is at maximum maturity. I joke but at the same time I am genuinely curious if draft busts could magically come back better after some late blooming.

If there weren’t a bunch of studs picked after Harry it would be an easier pill to swallow. That’s the issue I have with him and the pick. You’re never going to nail them all 100%, I get that. But the fact that you have receivers like Metcalf, AJ Brown, Samuel go after him is a gut punch because this team has been desperate for an outside receiver that bullies corners since Moss was here almost 15 years ago.

As the "optimistic as I can allow myself to be - glass is 1/4th full" Red Sox fan compared to my "they all suck - blow it the phuck up and start over every year" friends pre 2004 and having to play "angel's" advocate for who knows how long, I can attest to this.
