Neither Dugger nor Phillips are built to play the DMac-style FS we enjoyed here for the past decade… Shaun Wade is the perfect fit physically & athletically, but unfortunately it seems not mentally; plus he has too much of whatever it is that keeps him in the tub more than on the field…

My bet’s on Jonathan Jones being named our starting FS… As long as the rest of our projected CBs don’t fall flat on their faces, that is… Mills stays at one of the Outside CB spots, for now…

IMO, at CB, we need 3 outside and 2 nickels. My choice
CB outside: Gonzo, Mark Jones
CB nickel: Jonathan Jones
CB at all positions: Marcus Jones
5th CB: ???, Bolden for now (could be one of the two unmentionables)
6th CB: hopefully none is needed

I think that this group is much weaker with Mills instead of Jonathan Jones.

If Jones is moved to free safety, who are our nickels?
STARTER: Marcus Jones (would need to step up to lots of reps at nickel)
BACKUP: You choose. I suspect that it would be Bryant or Wade.

I agree that Jonathan may be our best choice at free safety. Mills wouldn't be as good.
FS: Lose some from Jones to Mills (mixed with others, as roles change a bit without McCourty)
CB: Lose a huge amount at nickel by moving Jones to safety.

I agree that Jonathan’s best role here is inside the Slot with Marcus as the backup; Mills at one Outside spot and Gonzo/Jackoff at the other… If Wade could somehow earn the starting FS job, that would help begin to answer an important question about our secondary, and our defense in general… If he can’t, then it’s either Mills or Jonathan J back there, and our CBs will be the weaker for it.
