PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp Day 6

Mack Hollins and Pop Douglas were rated the 12th and 13th best receivers in the NFL last year by ESPN. Douglas was tied for the best receiver in football on YAC. Boutte tied for the best receiver on catch metric.

Brown last year was number 6 overall - but the only receiver in the top 15 on every metric; Diggs was number 2. Maye of course had a little something to do with these rankings for the Pats' receivers.

That chart just shows how flawed it is.

I know they love him as a blocker and as a locker room presence but is Mack Hollins on the bubble? Easy contract to cut and with Douglas, Williams and Chism starting to do well, there's not much coming from Hollins in these tweets.
I’d be very surprised. Hollins consistently leads his teams in WR snap counts because of his unique skill set that you can plug into so many different formations. He’s a more valuable player than he is a receiver, if that makes sense.

He isn't just a pass catcher. He can block too. Is he a plus blocker yet? No. He needs more weight and more technique. But he is not one of those 'TE in name only guys'. I think give him a year and he has what it takes to be potentially average in blocking in the NFL. Another year? Maybe a bit better. I don't think he has the tools to ever be a TE considered a very good blocker, if he did, he probably would have been more dominant in college, which he wasn't in that aspect. But i think he can be decent. To above decent in a year or 2.
Raridon struck me as a prospect who could be a better pro than he showed in college. Injuries really hampered his development, both in terms of playing experience and probably adding muscle. But if he can stay healthy with the Pats I’m optimistic.

Other than Miller, who else has shown anything?
Lazar had Larison the 3rd RB up until the last 2 practices. He likes Montgomery’s burst as well.

That seems a little premature. He excelled at it in college, struggled as a rookie. Let’s see how he does this year. Hopefully he can make improvements there and with his vision/processing. If not, he’s basically our change of pace / home run back and maybe we use him more in kickoffs too to maximize his value

You're correct.

For some reason I thought it was a knock on him in college, but that wasn't true.

Yes someone fixated on stats misses his value.

Also Maye tends to like to throw high, and Hollins just pulls them out of the air.

Hollins is a team guy and a blue collar type. It wouldn't shock me if he agreed to a cut and sign to make the practice squad just to get the team through cutdown day. He could end up back on the team in week one ready to play once they put others on IR or made adjusting moves.

I think a lot will matter on TE and how the rest of the roster shakes out. Or they might just decide to let him go early and find his way to a contender, but Josh loves him... so if he wants to be here I don't see how he won't be.
Seems to me, I remember him baling Drake out in more than one game. If we are serious contenders, I would be disappointed to see him gone.

I think Hollins as somebody else mentioned may be used as a hybrid TE. Not sure if he has practiced in that role
