PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp Day 4

Prunty's making the team if for no other reason than his draft status. I wouldn't give you even a conditional 7th-round draft pick, in 2029, for the rest of them, however, including the backup Safeties.
They cut a 5th rounder last year in Swinson, draft status wasn't important then.

They have Vildor, Prunty and some talented UDFA CB's in camp, the room will be better than last year.

He's the best backup here since Jimmy G. And it's really not close.

That dude won games with an absolute dogshit Giants team. Hes not perfect. That's why he's a backup and not the Jets starter or something.
Agree here, he's a pretty good backup.

The only reason I think he might be challenged is because I am pretty high on Behren Morton as a backup.

depends on what you want your back up to do.
if you want the back up to support the starter, and help be his eyes on the field, as well as be able to come into a game and manage the offense, Hoyer was head and shoulders above Devito imo.

I agree with you on Morton

Why?

I liked him as a prospect.

He has good NFL size, played injured his final year of college but still drove the ball downfield and showed accuracy.

He might be a diamond in the rough.

OK. But he's 6' 2".

I see him as a tougher Zappe.
Serial poor decision maker.
Main reason TX Tech lost in playoffs.
Likely ceiling: Scout team punching bag.

So how do we feel about Tommy Buckets as #2? Not feeling the warm & fuzzies about it so far...

I have to admit I didn’t see him play with the Giants, I’m curious to see more of him in preseason.

In general, I think of three kinds of backups: the raw young unknown with potential, the savvy career backup who’s been called in to action enough to stay calm when it happens, and the semi-washed old veteran starter who may or may not be bitter about the younger guy playing ahead of him. I tend to like the middle type, with Brian Hoyer the prototype. I’m hoping Devito fits that mold.

The fact is, though, there aren’t even enough real NFL QBs to fill out the starting jobs. According to this ranking, there are 8 worse than Geno Smith: https://nflrankings.theringer.com/qb-rankings

This will age poorly.
For you?
He may well be traded.
You stating it was a done deal weeks ago was incredibly premature. If it was done deal he would’ve been gone by now.
I never argued he wouldn’t be traded (although I think it would be a mistake for 2026). My argument was it was far from a “done deal”, which it was, and still is today.

It's not like we're talking about a sixth round pick looking good. Boutte is an NFL player, and at the point of his career where WRs often come into their own.

Nobody's saying this is a breakout year yet or that it can't turn around resulting in a trade or demotion.

But from where he was a month ago it's a legitimate development so far.

At this point, we don't know if Boutte is any better than he was last year or any worse. That is my point. He is having a very good camp which really doesn't mean much in evaluation at least to the fan base who aren't there daily and analyzing him know on what things he needed to improve on.

It would appear he’s doing the same things he did in camp last year, and in the season.
Only thing we can really conclude is he’s the same guy, which is a capable NFL WR. At worst a very good #3, and at best potentially a very good #2.
I think it would be a mistake to trade him assuming it’s a 5th, or at best a 4th.
He’s more valuable on the field than what I expect the return in a trade would be.
Despite what some have suggested (u know who you are), he has not been a distraction. He’s a professional.

Morton is 6’2” 220 or roughly the same size as Aaron Rogers or Patrick Mahomes… like I said, good NFL size.

He was tied for first in the Big12 in yards per… he throws downfield.

Coincidentally how far did Patrick Mahomes at the same exact school go in the playoffs? He went 7-6 and 5-7 his last two years.

Playoff success is a team stat, not a QB stat. Also like I said already, Morton showed toughness playing through injury. Morton in the 7th round was a solid pick.
