PostGame Thread 2026 OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD: Patriots Beat Eagles 24-21

Immediate Postgame Reactions
The WR/RB roster # will be interesting.
Larison has to be on the 53 IMO. While Miller shows some all-around potential, I really like what Haskins is as a backup to Rham for that true "big back". Do they keep 4 RBs?

I agree with comments above - Chism is a gamer, more consistent, and a better every-down target for a QB.
Sure, KW is that flashy toy that gets ~1 explosive play per game. But QB's are extremely low % when targeting him.
You can't PS him, I don't know if you can PS Chism either - he'd get claimed.
Do they keep 7 WR's?

Our OL depth dropping like flies - Hudson is terrible, no matter what people say on paper.
We're counting on Van Roten, Rizy, Butler as our backup IOL going into the season? Not good.

DL depth is bad too. Taylor & Farmer have not been good. Iton & Pharms had some good moments last year, but didn't seem to know what to do last night.

I'd take Saunders over M. Brown. Last CB spot will be a battle - but Prunty wins it based on ceiling potential.
Our backups are NFL starter Van Roten and Brown. Rizy is the next one up for Game 1. I expect that we will 2-3 IOL's on the PS, perhaps from other teams.

My bottom line is that our OL is improving and should be better than last year.

AVT replaces Bradbury as one of our starters.
Lomu replaces Lowe.
Van Roten replaces Wallace.
Crownover is a PS level developmental addition

While I enjoy those go route TDs from KW, I’d also like for JMD to call some slants, sluggos, screens & other route variations for him. Optimize ways to get him in the open field.

I seriously think there is a QB2 question. Morton seems to manage JMD's offense better than DeVito.
Or at least a P1 question - if Morton can punt as good as Baringer with NO practice, pull that trigger!
Baringer is (and has been) a major liability for 3 years. He's so inconsistent, constantly fails in pressure punts. I'd rather have an emergency QB at Punter, who seems to have ice in his veins.

Here we go round the mulberry again…

6 WR

Brown
Doubs
Douglas
Boutte
Hollins
Williams
Chism

But that’s 7, so who’s out?
The Texans lost Promising Sophomore WR Jayden Higgins *ACL*. Could Barefoit Hollins be that Tough Cut to keep the younger guys?? Williams and Chism have shown that they belong. Also I would not move Boutte for less than a Fourth Rounder now. The Patriots have a History with Houston.

DL depth is worse than expected.

I think that we will carry 6 CB's. I don't see much of a battle. We have the starters, Vildor, Prunty and Woods. They will fight for reps. WHo is the #4 CB? Can they all backup at NB, or only Woods?

Is Pettus a lock? Brown's advantage is special teams. I suspect that neither is better than whoever we can activate from the PS in a given week. Do we roster 4 safeties plus Schooler or one fewer as we did last year?

ALT for Chism.
I really liked what DeGennaro showed too. IF we had to risk waivers for Chism, I'd feel good about landing DeGennaro on the PS.
He looked very similar in play style, and is much faster than Chism. (4.4 vs. 4.7)
He's not as experienced in this offense yet, but seems to get open a lot. I'd love to see him start this week in CLE.

I think that Morton is making the team. Some of us hoped for that since the draft.

I don't think that he is quite ready to be the #2.

In any case, I think that we should carry three.

It’s Tyquan all over again sort of. Speed is blinding people.

Speed doesn’t do you good if the only thing you can do is running straight.

I don’t know how Williams will see the field in the regular season. A.J Brown, Doubs, Boutte and Hollins are all in front of him. Douglas is a pure slot so Williams won’t take his spot.

if it was me, I would keep Chism over Williams because he is the only backup slot. I don’t think Williams will matter with how little he will see the field.

The original plan IMO was to draft Williams and hope that he was gonna be good enough to replace Boutte this year. But he clearly isn’t.
Did you see Tyquan Thornton making plays in the Preseason when he was here?? I certainly don't remember...you can scheme Kyle Williams open with his speed and keep working on his upper body strength. Look at rail Rail thin DeVonta Smith he's been a very good WR in this league. KW could be a game changer.

He certainly has the raw skills, but KW still doesn't understand the nuances to the position.

KW has shown me enough: I see promise which was not shown by many young Patriots Receivers.

That is true for many young WR's. Let's reassess after 2 years in the NFL in Josh's difficult system. I expect him to be much better this year.

We're carrying 3, it would be crazy not to with the free roster spot.

I think that Chism and Williams have done enough to show that they have a future in New England.

I didn't agree with Chism on the roster last year as the 6th WR, but this year I think another team could poach him.

If we want him for the future, Chism is just the kind of developmental player to have on the 53.

OFFENSE (25)
3 QB
3 RB
1 FB
6 WR
9 OL
3 TE

What has he done?

...I'm not sure You understand the nuances of the position.

And you do?

Twice even the announcers said for him to come back for the ball.

Vrabel yelled at him on the sidelines for it last week.

That's been Zolak's drunken sports radio hot take the last couple of weeks, yes.

You relying on Scott Zolak's "analysis" for your opinion is quite telling.
