I'm thrilled with the win, and in blissful disbelief at our league-leading record...
BUT - we still have some serious weaknesses to work on.

1 - opening D swiss cheese (if we give Bengals or Ravens or any playoff team a free 7pt lead - we may not recover)
2 - run blocking is still terrible (it's not Rham, and it's not Trey) They resorted to the "Brady checkdown" as their 1st down "run play" in the 2nd half - and I prefer that compared to useless 1st down runs for 1 or -1 yds.
3 - pass rush is seriously lacking. Landry fell of the cliff, Chaisson chases, Ponder is meh. We need to figure out a more potent answer, even the worst offenses are having 7 seconds to sit back there and find open guys.
4 - we "take naps" on both sides of the ball throughout the game. otherwise known as "lack the killer mentality" to keep the foot on the gas every single down.
5 - injuries are piling up. happens to everyone, but we have a very thin margin of error with talent. especially all 3 skill positions
We really need Boutte back. If Diggs or Henry goes down, I don't think we could overcome.

I think edge and OG are the big priorities next year. I like what we’ve seen lately from the lb and safety spots. They’re still upgradeable but not the problem they were early on. That said , we should easily be able to address all 4 of these spots next year, possibly rt, and improve depth where its needed through draft and FA

I thought Maye was amazing on many of his throws over zone.

Not many QBs can do that. If it looks like he's throwing the ball too high, it's because he's throwing over linebackers.

The Jets gave him very little space to throw it to, and he made the throws.

If the Jets DBs play this hard consistently, I don't think they are going to miss Sauce Gardner much.

Strange is a great guy but never the same after his injury. He was bad in Miami too.
I know...

Agreed patsy.. I recently posted on Jaire Alexander.. he's temporarily stepping away at 28 not retiring.. he's a guy that been an all pro before.. injuries have been an issue in his career.. but he's a guy that Vrabel could recharge and get for the veteran minimum to come and bolster the CB depth.. he would be a great veteran addition to add for the home stretch..

Williams can beat press, get separation, catch the ball and run away from defenders—everything but be where the QB expects him to be. Meanwhile Adonai Mitchell has similar speed and can do everything but actually catch the ball. Here’s hoping Williams’ weakness is more fixable.
As All NFL players do.. I'm sure it's a point of emphasizing that Drake and Williams use after practice to get on the same page.. what's impressive about Williams is he's always open.. however just not always where Drake is expecting him. That's definitely fixable.

Yeah, it’s easy to see why the Colts threw Michell into the trade.

Agreed. Not the first guy to have his career derailed by a patella tear. That's why I didn't want to go with Simmons in the first round of the draft even if he could have been the "steal of the draft".

#12 If Tonga misses his TD catch in the playoffs, how sad are we all going to be. We've all talked about it. And we know they are saving it. He better bring it down.

#13 Pats with only 2 penalties tonight is fantastic. Hopefully this low penalty trend continues.
Where have you heard that Tonga is getting passes thrown to him in practice?

I agree that one of the best parts is that the Patriots played a disciplined game and did not turn over the football. They did not hurt themselves.

That's going to become more and more important going forward. Winning the turnover battle usually means winning the game.

I'm curious, now that the Pats game is over what will you boys and girls be watching on Sunday?

Obv we'll be hoping for the Bucs to take out the Bills, but any other interesting matchup that fickle your tancy this Sunday?

KC Refs @ Donkeys.... Hate the Chiefs, but would be good for the broncos to drop a spot. or alternately, getting KC closer to being eliminated would be good as well. Decisions decisions...

Wasn't able to do it last night. But now i am ready to give a long ass post on my full thoughts for the game. TNF is kind of weird but there are certainly things which can be taken out of it.

#1 Maye's worst pass tonight was actually a Hollins catch. Tells you about his night. Good decision making on his part all night. I said before the game after 3 straight games with an Int that was going to be the 're-focus' of the OC and him. Maye like all young players needs to have improvements and good habits constantly reinforced until they become second nature. He was becoming a bit too much of a risk taker and needs to pull it back in. This shows he has made that adjustment.

#1.5 Maye had a lot of really nice check downs and short passes this game. Nice to see him doing that. I know he doesn't want to be a check down Charlie. But I know a check down Tommy who won 6 rings. So it is nice to see him doing this more when the D makes deep passing harder.

#2 Wilson had maybe the best game of his career tonight. He will not be able to maul as a run blocker this year as he lacks the size and strength right now. But his pass blocking was fantastic. For a guy who was on a really really bad run for a while. This is hopefully the start of a great turn around for the rookie. Wilson getting right and looking like the long term future at his spot will go a long way towards our playoff run (nice to treat the playoffs as if they are a lock in November)

#3 Henderson didn't look amazing on the stat sheet in some respects, but had a great game. The OL didn't always get a ton of push or open huge holes, and the runs were pretty straight forward, nothing fancy. He did a lot of work after contact. And my favorite stat of the night for him (even more than his 3 TDs) 5 targets, 5 catches. At times they've gotten away from him as a pass catcher. They need to keep going to it.

#4 Williams is getting a lot of snaps out there but seems lost more than not. At these point there are 3 things I am looking for when it comes to him. His grasp of the scheme after the mini-bye. The Bye week. And hopefully the first round bye. He has a lot of time to get into the scheme without pressure of preparing for a game. Him, Maye and Josh need to all get together and get this figured out. Cause if it doesn't look right after all the time and he is out of place on his first target of the playoffs, it is time to bench him. Playoffs are not for learning how to run the scheme. They are for winning. So i am hopefully this time can be used well. Not saying i am giving up on him if it is not the case, but as things get more and more serious you need to start considering when to shut it down. Thankfully we got some tomato cans still on the schedule.

#5 Campbell is going to be a great locker room leader for years to come. I see him and Maye forming the long term heart of this offense. Also while he has had some ups and downs, he has faced some of the very best (including THE very best) pass rushers this year. In his rookie year he has seen everything the NFL has to offer. That can only forge the iron more!

#6 So we had 3 big drops today. The Jets had drops too, but who cares, they are the Jets. Just pointing out points and plays were left on the field. Which you expect on a TNF game. I suppose it is nice to get them out of the way. It is nice to be able to comment on how rare it is for this core. Not long ago we had the most drops in the NFL. Now a game like this sticks out like a sore thumb. The WRs aren't the best in the league, but they hold on to the damn ball! And that is often enough to get good results.

#7 Not worried about Milton at this point. He was borderline to come back and Vrabel rightly pumped the breaks on it. Hopefully him and everyone else get 100% of close to for next Sunday.

#8 Ponder with sacks in back to back weeks. We badly need DE help, and Ponder is starting to come on. Hopefully he builds on this momentum as the weather gets colder.

#9 Everyone and their mom hated this LB core early in the year. Then Spillane got it together, ad we figured he would. Then Elliss eventually began to figure it out. He went down, now Gibbens has stepped up to become a very solid consistent cog in the machine. Tavai and Mapu at times have made plays too. So i am going to posit a thought to you. Outside of DT... Is LB right now the deepest position on the team? As long as Spillane stays healthy I have faith they will figure it out. While it is an up-gradable spot next year... would you be THAT unhappy with Spillane/Elliss/Gibbens/Tavai if they play like this?

#10 Davis is the new whipping boy on D in the backfield. Someone has to be. It is hard to dump on the rookie Woodson even if he occasionally messes up cause he is just doing so much as a rookie well. Hawkins has turned it around and is looking solid. Gonzo is Gonzo and Jones is the fan favorite and as long as he is in the slot doing slot things he's really good. But let's give Davis some praise! He had a great day today. I want to see someone else besides me give him an Attaboy. Cause he has taken a more hate than he deserves.

#11 Special Teams (outside of the missed FG) did their job today vs a very good unit. And it actually had little to do with Schooler, who has honestly been disappointing to me this year. The unit as a whole didn't let the Jets get anything for free.

#12 If Tonga misses his TD catch in the playoffs, how sad are we all going to be. We've all talked about it. And we know they are saving it. He better bring it down.

#13 Pats with only 2 penalties tonight is fantastic. Hopefully this low penalty trend continues.
Am I missing something? I thought Drake’s worst pass was the deep throw to Williams. If he leads him it is a TD. The under throw had two rodent defenders with a chance for a pick.

I think you are confused about what a check down is.
Tom Brady was not a check down QB. Maye wasn’t last night.

A check down is when you pass up deeper receivers in order to dump off underneath.
A quick short pass is not a check down it’s a play designed to target the short route.

When the primary route is a 5 yard out and it’s open and you throw to it, it’s not a check down.

The last thing anyone should be doing with Maye is changing him or stifling his aggressiveness.

One for the Kyle Williams negative nellies

Look at the down and distance and the formation. It's 4th and 2. They have 3 receivers to the right. The defense clearly playing to take away the short pass. It was a good release to get by the defender but part of the defender's technique there is a calculated gamble that they aren't throwing a go route to the weakside of the formation to their 5th WR who's been shaky all year on 4th and 2.

If you give any NFL player enough playing time they're going to put some good things on tape. Williams just flat out hasn't been good this year.

I really like that so many Teams are still alive in the AFC though some are Frauds ie... Jaguars - Texans and Chargers: but they're all still in it. I think the Ravens are going to fall short in the end: I see us winning there with decent health.

Watch this video of Drake Maye scouting himself. In particular, in light of the Kyle Williams 'troubles', watch him break down the 2nd play. It starts at 3:05. In it, he talks about one of his receivers - Tez Johnson - who always liked to go deep and Maye specifically talks about having to "get in rhythm with him" in practice. I just thought it relevant and shows that he knows how to get Williams more involved. The relevant part starts at 4:05.

I get I'm probably wrong but I've never understood the fear (not the right word but it's 5am) of Burrows. He's like Tomlins Steelers in human form. Good but always some reason he doesn't make it. Like a lesser talent Marino.
Lousy team construction. If he was playing for BB or MV, he would be great because he wouldn't have to carry the team. While Drake Maye is what makes the Patriots go, he has a team supporting him.

That's not an indictment on Kyle Williams compared to our Young WR past. Hey Maye missed him on that duck deep: what he did in that clip is some of the reasons why he's getting game time snaps. KW's time will come I like his prospects.

If this pair of headlines isn't an indictment of Xitter's AI, I don't know what is.

Rookies will rookie. What Williams is showing is that he can do what was expected of him in the draft - winning against press, having the speed to get deep and playing with explosion. The understanding with Maye will come with reps and practice. There's no indication Williams is stupid, lazy or doesn't care so it's not about character, it's purely about the step up from running a limited route tree in college to playing in the bigs. The understanding will come with reps. Why are people so determined to write off/judge rookies after only 11 games?
