2025 Draft Strategy

Looks like the dream is all but over. Welcome to the Patriots Campbell or Membou!

Strategy seems pretty clear. Draft Campbell at 4. 38, 69 and 77 prime spots to get a WR, DE and something else - nickel corner or some more o-line depth. Top of the 4th is always a great spot once everyone resets their board. Ideally there will be an RB there to hoover up.

Then prepare for the obligatory kicker in the 5th.

Yeah I'm hoping the following will fall to the 3rd

Edge:

Bradyn Swinson
Kyle Kennard
Jared Ivey
Ashton Gilotte
Josiah Stewart
Jordan Burch

WR: (this list has dwindled since the combine/pro days)

Savion Williams
Isaac Tessla

Probably better off selecting one at 38 at this point but I'm not prepared to settle at both 4 and 38.

Unless they draft Ersery (sorry guys but I’m not a fan), Judkins, a linebacker or possibly a corner at 38, it’s hard to go wrong with that pick.

I like Judkins but not the value there. I could live with Ersery as a last resort but it’s not my preferred outcome at LT.

And Trapilo. I think 38 is too high for him.

I think 77 is too high for Trapilo.

Thought experiment. If Travis Hunter slips to 4, could we go to the Chicago Bears and receive 10, 41, and 148? Probably.

At 10 we take LT Kelvin Banks.
At 41 we take X receiver Jayden Higgins.

Two positions in the most dire state fully covered.
Why would we need Higgins if Hunter is there at 4 ? Grab the best player in the draft at 4, screw trades.

I think 77 is too high for Trapilo.
The rumor is he's not getting past the Eagles at #64, so you'll have to either move up above that or get back into R2.

Would Membou at 4 really be a "settle" pick? Consensus big board (per The Athletic) has him at 6. He's basically both need and bpa.

No I've been on record that Membou is the best T. Just not at LT.

I don't consider either Campbell or Membou a long-term solution at LT, or worth a top 10 pick.

My strategy:

1. Draft Josh Simmons, either at 4 or with a very small trade-down, no matter who else is available. I consider Simmons worth a top 5 pick. That would lock down your 2 most important offensive position for the long term. I predict Simmons will go high, and will not be within trade-up reach from 38. No one else comes close, IMO.

2. With need no longer a major factor, move up and down the board to maximize value. Values will be there.

I’ve said Simmons is the best pass protector from the start but we have no idea how he’s recovering from his knee injury. He said he’s do a full workout before the draft but that failed to materialise so I wonder how far along he is in his recovery. Albert Breer, fwiw, said his injury re-checks were “sketchy”. There’s a lot of risk in a person with a patellar tendon injury.
