2024 QB class

If Maye’s ascent continues, the gap between great years will be only 5 - an amazingly low amount when you look at other franchises.

13 wins (with a chance for 14) in yeast two ? I can’t not love it !
Do you think we can win 12+ next year with a harder schedule even assuming the team will be better?

Last year the rankings were:

1. Daniels
2. Nix
3. Maye
4. Williams

This year it's:

1. Maye (Potential MVP)
2. Nix
3. Williams
4. Daniels only because he was hurt. He was playing well prior to the injury. Team came back down to earth.

Maye seems to have speed run Brady's development from 2000 to 2006 into just two years.
McDaniels became QB coach in 2004 and OC in 2006. He is a horrible head coach and very good, yet fallible, as an OC, but he is one of the best QB coaches ever. Going forward, I hope he is treated as Scar was... when he coaches QBs, they have success, with the exception of Cam Newton, but **** that guy.

I would like to believe that Drake would have success if he was drafted by the Jets, but I doubt it.

As far as QB play in the league, I'm actually glad to see Darnold and Geno have success after being dealt a bad hand. I was pretty impressed by Nix in college, but didn't think he'd be off to this kind of start.

It's good to see Williams and Daniels off to a good start. I hope they get good enough to hate in the coming years.

I am in the camp that thinks Daniels is a great talent that will never be realized due to constant injuries. Have you seen Daniels in street clothes? He is tiny for an NFL QB.

I think you mean 2007.

Maye has a higher completion percentage and more yards/attempt than 2007 Brady.

And he isn't exactly throwing to Randy Moss out there.

He is a good passer, but I don't think you could ever take the running out his game, because if he did he would lose so much of makes him good.
So yes, agreed, he's gonna fight injuries his whole career.

Daniels is thinner than a rail for a NFL QB. He does not have the bone structure to fill out. Might be thinner than T Thornton.

If Maye continues to ascend : I do. Do I also think they could go to 11-6 ? Sure. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing if things keep feeling like the team is striving towards a championship.

Ya, seems like a RG4.

Which is why I definitely meant 2006. If he can do this without any WRs/TEs that frighten DBs, imagine what he could do if he did.

Watch how fast some Patriot fans turn on Maye if they get knocked out of the playoffs. Felger will lead the **** talk but his minions will parrot his ******** word for word.

I doubt many, if any, fans turn on Maye.

What sets Maye apart from the rest of the '24 class is his accuracy.... his 71.7% single season completion rate puts him in the top 10 NFL players of all time. Maye is also the youngest player on that list at age 23,,,,
Some of his passes rate a "holy **** how did he do that!!" response as his trajectory will only improve over time..

Agree with sentiment, but Washington actually added players last off-season, their demise has been the Daniels injury. I think they actually got better as a team talent wise.
After a good 2024 off-season they didn’t add much in the 2025 off-season, they only had a handful of draft picks, let a bunch of talented younger free agents leave and added a bunch of old washed up guys. I think they dropped the ball. Even before Daniels injury they were substantially worse on both offense and the defense dropped to near league worst.

THREE-PART TEAM
the QB,
the HC/OC and
management (that brings in supporting players to support the coach and QB).
Need front office competency, need coaching, need all three phases. Even bad special teams can sink you in the playoffs.

Ctpatsfan77's law of trading players:

Players have value to their teams above and beyond whatever draft compensation they bring on their departure.

Jones is very valuable to the 49ers right now, and on a cheap contract.
That would be the choice

Is a backup QB who you hope will never play worth keeping one more year?

Or is it possible that it might be beneficial to the 49ers to secure a first round pick for him who can contribute for a decade or more

Tough choice.

There are no ten year contracts in the NFL.

A first rounder is a 50-50 prospect.

Even if you hit on a start, you have right for only 5 years, after which you can outbid the rest of teams or not. In any case, you could get someone else. You are paying market price.

Obviously, if you need a QB, the value of a top 10 of the first round pick is very different.

If the offer were a first, there wouldn't be a debate.

But given that 2022 and 2023 still exist, I can't see anyone offering nearly that much.

Of course not. And almost all patriot fans agree.
=========
2 years of truly terrible coaching took their toll, as they did on other QB's like Lawrence for example.
========
There are several teams that need a QB. For example, I could see PIT offering a 2026 2nd or a 2027 1st.
==========
Someone will get Willis and someone will pay $45M or more for one or two of the others. The pickings are slim. And there aren't many better backups available, and there won't be that many free agents worth $45M AAV.
