Realistically let’s say you replace Mac with Joe Average, the 16th best QB in football (ignoring the Patriots always scoff at the money required for a guy like this).

My guess (based on oddsmakers) is the Patriots overall score improves 2-3 points per game. They might win a couple of more games they lost. Maybe a 6 win team? To get like a full touchdown difference you need an all pro level QB, and even then it doesn’t really work like that with every 6 point loss now being a 1 point win. A lot of these “one score games” are ******** anyway where the other team went into a soft zone and the final score was closer than the game actually was.

Again look at point differential. Patriots were -130. A QB would need to change that total by 7.6 points per game just go get to even, a theoretical .500 record.
Whats the new Qbs win share? lol

Just to be difficult, I’ll chime in on the “avg QB” debate.

I think both sides have some merit but the truth is unknown. Firstly, the lack of talent at most positions isn’t in question. NE had problematic talent on O and injuries on D. However, there were SOOOO many games that could’ve been wins. Luck and good QB play could’ve made the difference.

What difference would that have been? Instead of 4-13 they go what? 6-11? 7-10?

Whew this thread! Today I learned from the Tampa Fans that because the QB doesn't make that much of a difference, then the '20 Bucs would have won the SB whether Brady joined them or not, all they needed was to wait a year for Winston to stop throwing interceptions.

Yes. Likely 2 or 3 more wins.

And, once in a while everything breaks for you for some reason. I think a Cousins / Mayfield type could’ve been 9-8. I stress the ‘could’.

Thankfully we’ll have a new QB room next season. Mac is gone and Zappe played his way out of having a chance next year.

Keep Rourke, bring in a vet QB and let’s see what we do in the draft as far as a QB goes.

You keep talking about these 7 games and I just laugh....

You have no idea if the receiver catches the ball from the new QB or if the blocking scheme is the same.

You don't know if the new, average QB can pick up the offense.

Christ Tom went 4-5 after JE got hurt and AB got kicked off the team....and he was the GOAT with **** to throw to and a crap o-line....just like now.

Please stop with the "i've proven it" nonsense when it's speculation because it hasn't happened and never will.
None of these things apply. I am saying if the qb play was adequate those are wins. No reasonable person can say those games are not wins if they patriots get average qb play. Hell if they got it for a drive or 2 that might have been enough.
We can pretend that having the worst qb play in the nfl, and if it wasn’t the absolute worst all year, it surely was in those 7 games, means nothing, because we want to be angry and blame someone and it’s not unique to point to the player who sucked.
Facts are still facts though.

Yes they do- intimately.

Yes. It is a fact if the talent at QB is improved, then the team will score more points.

It is also a fact if the talent surrounding the QB is sub-standard, the QBs production will be adversely impacted.

People, please calm down, there are 5 year olds that haven't seen a SB win in New England. Let's let the children have their say.

Poor @Tunescribe sitting through that weather to watch that abomination of a game.

I hope his parrot didn't freeze it's tiny little balls off.

Thanks for thinking of me, glad I went. (And just FYI, I don't take the parrot to football games.)

I doubt it. We sucked.

It’s not about production, it’s about what happened on the field in those specific games. I’m not saying improve qb play and you improve the team some magical amount. Im saying massive F ups by the qb, on plays where everyone else did their job, where the difference between winning and losing.

The facts are the specific substandard game costing okay but the qb. “Talent surrounding” is an opinion. And whatever the opinion of that talented without game losing f ups at qb this team would have won double digit games.

AT LEAST, are games that were lost with abysmal qb play that just mediocre qb play would have resulted in wins. I’m not sure how that is even arguable.

In case anyone is wondering: there was no official acknowledgement of BB at Gillette today. He wasn't shown on the big screens, although Slater was plenty. My seats are across the stadium from the Pats bench but I think I heard a brief fan chant from that area at game's end, "Bel-i-chick! Bel-i-chick!"

I'd put attendance in the lower bowl at about 45 percent, not many folks at all in the 300s. Conditions were brutal as I'm sure they looked on TV.
