I don't know why people think being taller is an advantage for a LT. It only creates more strike and leverage opportunity for the pass rusher. And it creates more difficulty for a 6'4" QB to see over.

Its not really the height its the adjacent physical attributes that come with being tall such as longer wing span and ability to cover more ground because they have longer legs.

Check out Jonathan Ogden or Orlando Pace...they are the templates

yeah pretty much this. Letting Trent Brown walk actually shows me that they count on Wynn as LT in 2019.

I love that this thread keeps rolling along.

Trent Brown left because he got a mega contract from the Raiders who caved to Drew Rosenhaus' demands. Four years, $66M with $36.25M guaranteed. Trent Brown got a bigger contract than Nate Solder did in NY who over-reached by a mile. Belichick was never going for that kind of deal.

    Trenton Brown

Belichick didn't let Trent Brown walk because there's a rookie who has never played a down in the NFL recovering from an Achilles heel injury on the roster. All they've done is pile up tackles like cordwood in free agency and the draft. Look at the roster. If Isaiah Wynn is such a lock as the starting left tackle, why do they have Jared Veldheer, Cole Croston, Yodny Cajuste, Cedric Lang, Tyree St. Louis, Dan Skipper, and Calvin Anderson on the depth chart? That's seven OTs fighting for one, maybe two spots behind Marcus Cannon.

Oh, and for you guys whining about height...how will you be able to pick out Isaiah Wynn from the crowd of nine OTs at training camp? You guessed it. He's the shortest one of all of them.

Tall offensive tackles sure haven't created any issues for Tom Brady. The last few tackles on your Patriots with four trips in five years to the Super Bowl? 6"8" Sebastian Vollmer, 6"8" Nate Solder, 6"7" Marcus Cannon, and 6'10" Trent Brown. Those guys were aided by 6' 6" TE Rob Gronkowski making it hard for edge rushers to get to Brady in his advanced years.

As @robertweathers mentions above, HOF OTs Orlando Pace at 6'7" and Jonathan Ogden at 6'9" created the mold. Sure there some great ones at 6'4" - Matt Light and Willie Roaf come to mind immediately, but the trend is for taller guys with huge wingspans who can direct these freakish edge rushers upfield past the QB as he moves around in the pocket.

Oh big deal. What does Dante Scarnecchia know about OL play compared to the experts here, huh?

Yeah, RW's post was helpful in connecting height (which doesn't matter) to wingspan and leg length (which helps in pass blocking).

On the other hand, Joe Thomas had arms shorter than Isaiah Wynn's and he worked out pretty well.

I think Matt Light also had less than ideal arm length for the position and he also did just fine.

Besides Cajuste and Veldheer, one of whom is an unpolished rookie and the other is a mediocre journeyman, that's, well, what's that Michael Jordan quote about Luc Longley and Bill Wennington? That's about 50 feet of ****.

You added a few inches of height to almost everyone in that post.

Thanks. Fixed that. Yeah, I mis-typed Gronk's height - the rest are correct.

Only on PatsFans.com do I feel like an utter failure over a half an inch.

Okay. PFR and his HOF page have Roaf at 6-5. I'll split the difference with you. I looked up his combine results to compare him with Wynn - they have him at 76.5 (6'4- 1/2") inches: Willie Roaf | OT | Louisiana Tech - NFL Combine Results

Wynn is the incredible shrinking man. NFLCombineResults has him at 75" (6-3), but no combine results: Isaiah Wynn | OG | Georgia - NFL Combine Results . Walter Football, which I like, has Wynn even shorter at 6'2". They have him projected as an inside lineman. WalterFootball.com: 2018 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Isaiah Wynn

By the time training camp rolls around, Wynn will be 5'7" and competing for a job as the punt returner.

Yeah, Joe Thomas 7X pro-bowler who never played in a playoff game. What a waste of a great talent and ironman. Belichick gave him the highest praise when he announced his retirement last year.

Patriots Sign WR Dontrelle Inman and OL Jared Veldheer

“In addition, the Patriots released OL Calvin Anderson and WR Xavier Ubosi.”

Ouch. It’s almost as if BB read your post and is sticking it to you personally. As they say...it is better to have loved and lost (almost immediately) than to have never loved at all.

The back end of the roster is always a revolving door, the Aiken brothers, the Ventrone brothers, Josh Kline, Cole Croston, combined these guys have been fired and rehired a hundred times.

Also I don't offer money back guarantees on draft picks, I certainly won't offer them for UDFA's... but feel free to celebrate my downfall.

Any offensive lineman has an extreme longshot to crack the depth chart on a team that finished last year as the #1 O-Line in the NFL, especially an UDFA guard.

I like Andrew Beck's chances more and more each day, and just for that reason, we have a need at TE and he's a good athlete. More of a fullback/H-Back, but can probably give you snaps at TE. He'll battle for that 3rd TE spot with Lacosse barring any additions to the roster or injury to our current position group. I also like Jakobi Meyers odds at WR, another position of need.
