Glad you like the picks. Personally, I have a hard time finding this website's rationale for the Patriots draft as credible when it can't get basic facts right (is he getting paid for this?).

    1) Carter and Anderson were Patriots in 2011. On a Super Bowl roster, not just a throwaway Patriots team. And they weren't signed until the summer because of the lockout, so he can't make the argument that they were signed in 2010 for 2011.

    2) Is Chandler Jones chopped liver now? They traded *up* in the 1st round to get him, once of only 4 times the Patriots have done that in the 1st round under Belichick. I can understand how he's blocked Jake Bequette from his memory. But the fact is, the Patriots double-dipped on edge players in the first 3 rounds in 2012 including trading up in the 1st round (and I'm not even including Dont'a Hightower's positional flexibility, who was also a 2012 first round trade-up).

Yeah, I had a chuckle at that one, too, for the same reasons. I still liked the picks, given the way the draft fell. Solid contributors with potential to grow.

Would take a miracle for it to fall this way. I’d be happy with 2-3 of those guys.

Just finished this mock on Fanspeak, using Matt Miller's latest Bleacher Report rankings:

2018 NFL Mock Draft via Fanspeak's On the Clock Mock Draft Simulator

As you can see, I really wanted to concentrate on defense on days 1 & 2.

I also wanted to draft a Safety, but I didn't see any I liked on Day 3 as well as I liked OT Brandon Parker & TE Ryan Izzo.

I decided to have a go at my first mock of the year.

    FA

    • I have my doubts that we’ll re-sign Solder - I hope so but with such a bad OT class in the draft, I wonder whether we might get outbid for him in FA. Hopefully one of Cam Fleming or Waddle are brought back as short term cover. I think they both showed that, whilst they might not be long term options at OT, they can hold the fort at the position for a short time.
    • I think we’ll acquire a CB during the FA process whether it be Breeland, Talib or maybe Sherman.
    • I doubt Dion Lewis comes back but they should try to bring back Burkhead. I think B.B. will sign Gore who’ll compete with Gillislee and maybe a UDFA RB. Maybe not ideal but it’s a workable committee.
    • Amendola is re-signed.
    Draft (no trades)

    31. Sam Hubbard, DE, Ohio State

Just seems very Patriot-y to me. Will be a popular choice in mocks for the Pats

    43. Justin Reid, S, Stanford

By now we all know why this guy should be in everyone’s mocks for the Pats. That doesn’t mean we’ll draft him of course but he’s one of the most obvious potential Patriots prospects I’ve seen. Just ticks every box.

    63. Brian O’Neill, OT, Pittsburgh

I realise he might not be an ideal day one starter (hence re-signing Waddle/Fleming) but the similarities between him and Solder (aside from about 20 pounds) are startling. Who fancies a LT reverse? Josh McDaniels perhaps? And a blocking TE in year one.

    95. Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond

I have concerns about his deep ball but aside from that, there’s a hell of a lot to like.

    136. Ian Thomas, TE, Indiana

A developmental prospect at TE for sure, but with likely uncertainty over Gronk every year now until he finally quits, we need one of them. He’s an in-line blocker with good hands which is a positive.

    205. Genard Avery, LB, Memphis

A recently discovered binky. A 248lb linebacker with top notch athleticism with some DE like ability to bend the edge in pass rush and with great effort and and excellent COD ability. I can see him playing both as a middle linebacker or in the recent Nink role. Should be a quality special teamer too with his athleticism and effort.

I think the first four picks seem like very BB picks to me and whilst it’s not a very flashy mock necessarily, I think it’s typically Patriot solid. And whilst I’m pessimistic about re-signing Solder and Lewis, I sure as hell hope we do.

Love the mock, not a fan of letting Solder go and getting a "pricey" veteran CB at the same time. Rather roll with Gilmore/Rowe/JJones/CJones/Bademosi but keep Solder. I know that those things are not directly connected to each other but if you have a 41 year old QB you might consider overpaying his LT even if it means sacrificing a bit in the secondary.

I don't know anything about him, just read his profile on nfl.com and he sounds promising. They compare him to Elandon Roberts though...

Visit the Gif thread, there’s a post about him there. He has a lot more potential than Roberts. He actually has some Haason Reddick to his game.

I’m not suggesting we should let Solder go but in an environment where the draft class is poor at LT, Solder has the potential to make a lot of money. And B.B. has shown a willingness in the past to downgrade at a key position if the alternative is overpaying.

I understand. My point is that we were never in a situation where we had a 41y old QB. Safety and continuity of that aspect has to be part of your value calculation. Of course if someone offers crazy money it is a different story but same as with DMac and the Eagles I expect the Pats to step up and pay a premium for Solder once the cards are on the table.

If anything BB & co are amazing at correctly assigning value to talent in terms of FA and the open market. Apart from Hicks and Chicago I can't remember the last time they screwed up the evaluation part.

Love the picks, but after his workout I’m having trouble seeing Hughes fall that far. In fact it will prob take a trade up to get him. My guess is that Harrison and gesicki go higher than the mock as well. Lauletta in the late 6th would be a steal
