2018-19 Stanley Cup - Bruins vs Blues

As a Bruins fan of a particular age my all time favorite Cup Final moment involved the Blues.

The Blues went from this to being abandoned by their ownership and days away from being dissolved a decade later:

In 1980-81, with Berenson behind the bench, the Blues had a 107-point season and put hockey back on the St. Louis radar. But the renaissance was short-lived. The team slipped under .500 the following season and managed just 65 points in 1982-83. Dean retired and his successor, William Stiritz, had no interest in continuing the involvement in hockey. Looking at losses of more than $10 million over six seasons, the pet food giant put the Blues up for sale and in January 1983, announced it had a buyer in Saskatoon-based Batoni-Hunter Enterprises, Ltd.

Batoni's president, Bill Hunter, said his group was ready to break ground on a $43 million building, which could be ready for the Saskatoon Blues in time for the 1983-84 season. Reluctant to give up on the St. Louis market, the NHL blocked the sale. Incensed, Ralston Purina sued the NHL, padlocked the Checkerdome and abandoned the franchise, leaving a mess for the league to sort out. The team did not even participate in the 1983 NHL draft, forfeiting all of its picks.

He sure killed it in the middle two games of the Tampa series and he may arguably be the best goaltender left in the playoffs I respect his game but I don't fear it. He doesn't have the Bruins pelts on the wall Holtby does. Any B's fan that tells you they weren't apprehensive about the prospect of facing Holtby in the playoffs is either FoS or a pretty casual fan.

I agree, I was really happy the Caps spit the bit.

My guess is that if they moved to Saskatoon I’d prob be a Hawks fan, thus actually getting to enjoy winning a few cups.

Ouch, a guy raised on the Cards being stuck with rooting for a team in the Cubs hometown might be rough

@fnordcircle is probably fired up. I hear he hates a CBJ.

Yup. I think I could handle being a hawks fan but a cubs fan that’s where I draw the line.

I haven’t seen them play much except sweeping tampa bay. That was impressive
They were out of the playoffs at the trade deadline, added some pieces, started scoring, got healthy and closed out the regulear season winning 8 of 9. Bolts were a little banged up, played uninspired and they screwed the pooch.

The real story is Bobrovsky. Since early March Bobrovsky is 14-3 and stopping 95% of his shots.

Hot goalies in the playoffs are bad news.

Bobrovsky is the best goaltender remaining in the playoffs. Columbus can score & play heavy with anyone. Their top 2 defensemen, Werenski & Jones, are as good as any pair in the NHL, the rest of their D is average. So there's a lot to like. On his game Rask is almost on a par with Bobrovsky, Boston's top D pair isn't quite there with CBJ's but overall the D is deeper. The real edge for Boston, such as it is, is in their bottom 6 forwards

PP, let's go

Bobrovsky looks sharp

Woohoo!!
A SHORTY!!

I don't expect Columbus to show up until game 3 when they get their legs back. It's been a week since they've played a real game.

Yeah I mean it just is too hard to fathom that the Bruins are playing at a extreme level.

i think ive had enough to many men on the ice penalties. they have to clean that up.

Surprised at the level of energy and execution B's are putting in this game after a game 7. Picking up where they left off without losing a beat.

You bruins fans are the most sensitive lot whatever reason. All I said was that Columbus is a better team than they are showing right now. I didn't say your Bruins won't win the series. I simply expect Columbus to play a lot better as the series progresses.
