Is it really criticizing by stating the obvious? He hasn't signed an extension and Belichick went and got one who would. I wouldn't call that anymore than the facts. Even claiming he was asking for the moon, isn't really anything bad. That's more speculation but does make some sense as to why the Patriots got up yesterday and made a quick move on Gilmore. I don't think anything he said is bad, unless I missed something else.
That's not how it works.. Butler would not be at 3.9M for the 2018 season. He'd be at the Franchise Tag number for CBs which will close to or over 15M. So you're really asking him to take a 15M pay cut by doing only 5/45 or a 10M pay cut at 5/50.. Especially when you just gave Gilmore a 5/65 deal with 40M guaranteed.
Butler's contract needs to be similar or better than Gilmore's. Maybe a 4/55 or 5/68 deal with 35M guaranteed..
Why did they resign fleming. He can't move, most unathletic tackle i've seen.
It's a former Patriot employee making all their dirty laundry public - which is something Belichick always tries to avoid specifically to keep the locker room happy.
It would be 3.9M for 2017. I don't think they would franchise him at 15M/year.
17: 3.9M
18-22: 13/year =52M
If you want to say it will cost 14-15/year then it's 56 or 60. The point is if a team offer him 5/50 with 25-30M guaranteed he's giving 10-15M for the total of the contract for the security of the now. Plus there's nothing saying he isn't cut at the end of the deal. It's all about the guaranteed money.
What about this is dirty laundry?
This isn't even remotely comparable to the Collins deal, in which he was pretty much right about. There is no criticism of the player here.
He calls it like it is. Belichick made sure he had a top corner in his defense locked up. There's nothing dirty about it. It's a smart move that gives the team options.
The Patriots kept trying to sign Malcolm Butler to a long-term extension and kept coming up empty?—?the underpaid hero of Super Bowl XLIX is looking for the moon and then some. Who could blame him? The Patriots’ model during the Belichick years, though: If you cannot get a deal with one key guy, find another. That’s Gilmore.

You're saying he should take a 20% paycut for money now. No one does that unless they are Tom Brady who has a model wife making more than him..
Twilight and Timmons are best buds. No thanks. I think staying younger in the LB Corp. is ultimately better, even if it means struggling a bit early in the season. The D-line should be vastly improved and the secondary looks to be in good shape, and maybe even able to withstand a potential MB departure.Wouldn't mind Timmons
I wish we knew this before we traded for Allen.

Why NFL Teams Shelled Out Millions for the Biggest Free Agents
You may think that's innocuous, but the players view it as if the Patriots are telling the world that Malcolm Butler is asking for a zillion dollar contract. That plays very poorly in the locker room; it's rather Jets-like actually.
Maybe those players should ignore the noise... you know..
I don't think you understand that with the last CBA that was signed, players who are tendered a contract (Franchise / Transistion / RFA/ ERFA) count against the roster immediately.
That means that Butler, Fleming, Coleman, Lengel, and King count on the Roster,
@Miguel noted that Brandon King's name was not on the Free Agency List released by the NFL yesterday..
Miguel's page had the Pats at 56 before the resigning of Harmon and Branch or the signing of Gilmore. If you add those 3, that puts them at 59, ala Long Distance's OP.
The Pats have 31 roster slots available with 8 draft picks currently.
