2-5.. Am I the only one who is okay with this?

Lawrence is the best qb to come through the college ranks since Peyton. He could be spectacular in our offense.
Every other year, some QB is the best QB since Peyton. From Vick to Eli to Newton to Luck to Mayfield to Burrow.

Lawrence gets really fat off weak ACC competition. He will be the greatest QB to come along until the following year when someone else takes his place as the greatest thing to come along.

I'm still younger than 30. I had no interest in football from 2000-2006. However that really isn't all my fault. We lost our home in like 2004 and were forced to live in a one room motel til 2009. Also didn't live in America until 1996-1997. From 1997-2004, it just never crossed my mind to watch it.
I wasn’t trying to give you a hard time... hope it didn’t come across that way.

I agree with your sentiment about the stupid overhype of said #1 QB every year. It’s so ridiculous that typically Golden Boy is replaced by Golden Boy 2 after the end of his junior season and often Golden Boy 3 after the combines.

That said, in my horrendous amateur opinion, Lawrence is a unique case since at 19 he has looked better than a lot of pros...I don’t do the college scouting thing but have often seen incredibly obvious signs that so-and-so (Trubisky, Darnold, etc) may in fact be a pile of crap at the pro level. But Jesus, Lawrence does look really damn good as a future NFL quarterback.

All that said, it’s still very possible that he disappoints at the pro level. I just think he is the most obvious potential great QB to come out of college in a very, very long time...and I thought Luck was overhyped and didn’t stand out to me as a sure fire star either.

I really hate not having the next big game to look forward to. That’s possibly the best part about sports to me. On some average Wednesday, talking and being excited about the team, the upcoming games, playoff seeding... it’s going to really suck to not have that.
Also not sure what to root for this year. I think we are definitely better than a bottom 5 team. If we go show that, then at least we’d prove that we have some pieces that deserve to be part of the future. I just don’t know if I can root for this team to tank. Also, I’m not entirely confident that Bill would even use the pick on a QB...

Joe Flacco won a SB. Nick Foles won a SB. Manning when he couldn’t throw 15 yards won a SB. Eli won 2.
In the last 21 drafts 16 QBs have been drafted #1 and Eli is the only one to win a SB.

Here's the issue with your statement. Flacco, Foles, and Eli (2011) all won SB's where they had the all time best play of their career in their playoff runs and ripped off 3 of the best statistical playoff performances in the SB era. That's not hyperbole. Most of the data shows this. They were playing at an elite level at that time.....

They also never did it again and as a result their teams were not consistently in the hunt for championships the way Brady/Manning/Ben/Brees/Rodgers typically were.

Manning in 2015 was similar to Dilfer in 2000. They had outlier historically great defenses.

So please just recognize that while these are paths, they are in no way longterm solutions and how consistent franchises operate. We will not have a world class defense that is hopefully good enough to drag a QB to one SB before attrition wears them down anytime soon. Yes maybe lightning might strike with a midlevel QB, but you can't consistently hope for it.

I just don't see what that does. It's almost like hurting the team for some sort of meaningless bragging rights. "See we aren't a bottom 5 team". We are going nowhere. I'd rather just rip the bandaid off and go for the best QB possible and have better draft assets.

Also if Bill has a chance for Lawrence, Fields, or Lance and doesn't pull the trigger.... we probably should go because it's likely a sign that he's going for the short term

amen brother! We need to lose the next 9 games and somehow the giants must win a game or two.
Giants will win a few more just by playing in that division.

The rest of the schedule isn't daunting, we can still finish 10-6 and make the playoffs.
Cmon dude. Ive been a homer to the max saying we can win every game in years prior, but there's not a chance in hell i'm predicting 8-1 with this team. Lets be real here.

Well the players and coaches themselves will try. You can only really tank with roster management. So you cannot really “go for it and tank” unless you trade away and bench all your good players. It’s probably easier done in the off-season. And I think it was fair to not go into this year tanking.

Since the players are trying, I’m rooting for the players to turn out to be decent. Like our OL, jc and Jones, wino uche and Jennings, etc.
if we lose the next 9 games, then those players likely didn’t do as well and our assets are lesser. If we actually win some games, it’s likely because our team played well. Therefore, we would be further ahead with our roster. I would like the team to be able to compete after making some key additions.
Think about if we had finished the comebacks vs Seattle, Denver, and Buffalo and we were sitting atop the division. You wouldn’t be advocating for talking. Results of games influence roster evaluation. Players are how good they show.

It’s easy to lose when you can still watch Tom cement the last twenty years even further on another football team.

I already said:

1991 Atlanta: 4 throws, 2 picks.
1992 Green Bay, first game: 14 throws, 1 pick. Unless he threw that pick on his last throw, it's an exact comp.

Yea keep replying how Stidham is like Favre, and then backtrack that you don't mean to say Stidham is Favre

.

I agree with you in that I don’t think we will go for a full on tank but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the team play their younger players a lot more to give them that experience that is very much needed.
Maybe I am an optimist but this season already looks to be lost. But for the remaining games there is still a lot to look for and be excited about. Next season how will the lbs look with josh uche and anfernee Jennings playing along side Hightower. Hopefully with the reps that dugger can get for the remainder of the season he overtakes chungs spot on the roster.

Again maybe it’s the optimist in me but I don’t think this team is in complete shambles as long as a few things break in our favor.

The players who are playing always have many incentives to perform well. Only way to tank is put all your young players out there and as BB has done, do not go after talented players in FA or draft. BB is light tanking

This team has brought me so much joy over the last 13 years. So many AFC East crowns.. playoffs nearly every season. AFCCG seemed like the norm. Also, superbowl victories. I feel no anger or sadness like so many "haters" predicted the "spoiled" fans would. I still plan to watch this team every week no matter what. Sure, it hasn't been pretty this season, however I'm not sweating it.

Patriots forever. Anybody else feel similar?

Imagine being a fan of a team where you go to your grave never getting to do more than dream of seeing greatness and success.

I've gotten to live the most improbable of sports-fan dreams (albeit from a distance).

No tears, no complaints.

13 years? You must be a youngster, which of course is fine.

I have been around longer, unfortunately, but as long as the team shows heart I am OK. They showed it sometimes today. Reminds me a little too much of 2002 when they could not and would not stop the run. I preferred 1994.

but yes, I hear what you are saying.

I also “like” that we have the pandemic excuse

1994 was awesome because we started to see brilliance from the QB position for the first time...and man, could we score!

But I’m ok with the losses. This year feels as real as the fake crowd noise...I can’t wait for it to be over. The future is bright!
