Agreed. At least we can admit it
Yeah, what I am trying to say is that while Brown may still be a good and productive receiver by then, he would be slowing down. As we could all see last year, while Diggs was still a good player, he was not prime Diggs. Even factoring in the return from injury, that is apparent. The team is currently trading for what is effectively prime AJ Brown, or close to prime, but in 3-4 years he will not be that anymore. He may still be a player capable of a 1000 yard season but his skillset would most likely be diminished to some degree. So, you would probably not want to be paying top of the market WR rates for that. However he may still have value - look at Davante Adams in LA last year, who is 34 and was a very valuable player for the Rams but was not their #1. Of course, his AAV is also only around $20M, so that's commensurate with his decline. Hopefully that makes sense.Diggs had over 1000yds at age 32 so, it's not really the cliff for a proven Wide Receiver.
I was going to mention Davante Adams too: who's best year to date came @ age 29. The same age A.J. will be this upcoming season. IF A.J. shows he can consistently beat #1 coverage: I don't think anyone here will be upset *compensation included*.Yeah, what I am trying to say is that while Brown may still be a good and productive receiver by then, he would be slowing down. I think Adams is a good reference point for Brown. Also, who was Adams playing for when he had his best season? Josh McDaniels.I was going to mention Davante Adams too who's best year to date came @ age 29. The same age A.J. will be this upcoming season. I completely forgot McDaniels was his HC then wow. @The Gr8est McDaniels and Davante Adams @ 29 now A.J. Brown and McDaniels @ age 29 Hmmmmm.I think Adams is a good reference point for Brown. Also, who was Adams playing for when he had his best season? Josh McDaniels.
I think Philadelphia cares more about value than perception.I'm beginning to think that for Hiowie the key to the compensation on this trade is the term "First Round" I think we all believe that Brown is NOT worth a first round pick in any year due to his age and chronic knee issues. So to make Philly happy we have to give the PERCEPTION of giving them a first round pick, yet not give them the VALUE of a first round pick and that is why putting it in a future year, like 28-30 might work and/or bringing something back like a 3rd or 4th would as well. They get to say they got a first, and we get the talent for his true value and fair price.
And too much WR's it seems like.I think Philadelphia cares more about value than perception.
I’m thinking the right deal is a 3 and a 5. Philly has no leverage.
And again, if the Patriots are picking in the top 10, there's a lot more wrong with the team than a single draft pick would fix.If the Pats have a bad enough year that they’re picking in the top 10, it would be disastrous to have traded away their 1st round pick.
Don’t try and sugar coat this.
It looks like their only leverage right now is not to trade him and end up with a pissed off WR Diva.I think Philadelphia cares more about value than perception.

But not even a top 10 pick to start the repair with. And again, if the Patriots are picking in the top 10, there's a lot more wrong with the team than a single draft pick would fix.
Jesus we get it, you love draft picks, they are the savior. I would rather have them win the ducking superbowl, and he gives them a better chance for the next three years. This isn't the NBA, we have a qb, time to put on your big boy pants and try to get over the hump. But not even a top 10 pick to start the repair with.
If they're picking in the top 10, in year 3 of Drake Maye, it's closer to 'blow it all up' time, because something went seriously, seriously wrong. But not even a top 10 pick to start the repair with.
Exactly! As a fan, I want to enjoy picking at the end of the first round each year.. typically signals we are making deep runs each year..And again, if the Patriots are picking in the top 10, there's a lot more wrong with the team than a single draft pick would fix.
They have to trade him. They just hope someone steps up to compete with Pats offer. Unlikely. Pats just have to wait them out. Be funny after all this: they make the trade and his knee fails the physical. It looks like their only leverage right now is not to trade him and end up with a pissed off WR Diva.
Something else weird could happen, like Maye tears his ACL, Gonzo gets hurt, lots of other injuries. You can have a super team but if the best guys all get hurt then you just have an average to bad team again, and against a difficult schedule, that might mean not a lot of wins.If they're picking in the top 10, in year 3 of Drake Maye, it's closer to 'blow it all up' time, because something went seriously, seriously wrong.
Your mythical top-10 pick would be more likely to have a Chris Slade-esque career.
Burrow played the first 10 games and they were 2-7-1.Something else weird could happen, like Maye tears his ACL, Gonzo gets hurt, lots of other injuries. I recall Burrow got hurt and they ended up with a top 5 pick which they used on Chase, and then they ended up in the Super Bowl. Of course, they haven't been nearly as successful since then, so that might have been an early warning sign.
Good context. I wasn't remembering it right, clearly.Burrow played the first 10 games and they were 2-7-1.
They were 2-4 without him.
His injury didn't change anything, they were destined for a top 5 pick either way.
They were a bad team with a rookie QB, much like us with Maye in his rookie year.
Our team is much better than those Bengals or the 2024 Pats.
Better roster, coached better.
Not saying a Maye injury wouldn't be devastating, it would be.
The only way I could see us picking in the top 10 is if we were hit incredibly hard with injuries. If they're picking in the top 10, in year 3 of Drake Maye, it's closer to 'blow it all up' time, because something went seriously, seriously wrong.
