Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
I can safely say without knowing anyone involved with either front office that I’m 1000% confident that AJ Brown will not be traded for Gonzo.
If the NFL ever reaches a point where the WR position is valued so much that any team in the league would be willing to trade a 23 year old top 5 CB for a 28 year old WR like AJ Brown, I will forever be done with the sport from that moment on.

And if Vrabel took your preferences under consideration, he could have skipped the entire draft because we would have already traded all of our 2026 draft picks before he even took the job.

If Vrabel took Patsfan2's preference he would have traded Drake Maye to the Jets for Justin Fields. Then Vrabel could have drafted the top receiver in the draft because they would have been picking first.

I can absolutely see Chiefs or Rams coming in at last minute and offering a first
Those 2 teams will likely be picking 25-32

If that happens I will be happy pats did not match

2027 2nd rounder or walk away

If the patriots renege on the deal we likely made with them, there will be no further negoatiations with us. We will just move, being proud of ourselves and PHI will trade Brown to the Rams, KC or DAL.

I don’t see the Eagles wanting to help out the Rams in that regard, unless they offer a ridiculous level of capital in return.

Chiefs also would not seem to have the cap flexibility to make Brown work.

I can't wait for the GDT every time Brown has a drop or bad route because you will have half the board saying see I told you he was not worth it. The a few plays later he will catch a TD and the other half will say see I told you he was worth it.
Nah, the GDT thinks you only need WRs on your team.

It's such a disparity when you at Maye's weapons compared to his peers weapons. Jackson Dart just came in the league and look who he has at his disposal. JJ McCarthy have Justin Jefferson - Penix Jr have Drake London - Caleb have too many weapons - Bo Nix now have Waddle. I hope all of you Experts eat your shirts when we get A.J. Brown. Vrabel knows Maye can't make chicken salad out of chicken ****: Maye ain't built like that.
One thing in common - all those QBs you listed have one combined playoff win.

Neither of those teams can afford Brown.
Especially the Chiefs. Who picked...*checks notes* 6th overall this past season.

What do think the 2026 cap hit will be for the acquiring team?

I haven't weighed in on this thread because it seems like so much mental masturbation over nothing. Before the draft there was literally zero point zero zero zero chance the Eagles were moving him and even post June 1st that is a monster hit to their cap for the next two years. Now I think Schefter is one of the most connected and reliable reporters out there. 100% right? Of course not and he could be being fed some BS but I don't think he is. A 2028 first feels about right and reminds me of the Seymour trade to Oakland.

I'm going to go off the assumption that the parameters of the deal are agreed to, correct, and just waiting for the calendar to switch months. I honestly see both sides of this, its potentially a lot to give up for a malcontent aging injured receiver who didn't have the greatest year last year. It's pennies on the dollar if he comes in and balls out for 2 years making us legit super bowl contenders. Getting Maye a go to WR who makes it so Doubs, Boutte, and Williams are facing #2 and #3 CBs will fast track his development which should be priority #2 in foxboro, #1 should be keeping him healthy and upright.

This is putting it on the credit card and getting a guy who will probably be a top 15 receiver for the next two to three years for basically free until April 2028. It's the sort of aggressive all in sort of thing you do while your QB is on a rookie contract. If the price was a 2027 1st I would say no freakin way but the 2028 one means we don't feel that pain for three years which lines up for when the window starts closing a little with Gonzo and Maye getting paid. Until then there are no major bills and you can afford to splurge on the rest of the team. Have three years of overloaded rosters to give yourself the best shot of winning, then a down year or two to reload and go at it again in the back middle of Maye's career.

This all comes down to the evaluation of what AJ Brown we are going to get. I honestly don't know, if it was my call I would pass, I think the risks are too much. However I recognize I don't have 1/10th the info Vrable and company have. I'm sure they are doing all the research and are going to make a logical well informed decision and at the end of the day I trust them to get it right. It is the best situation possible for AJ, playing on his fav team with a coach he respects, and a young up and coming QB who can get him the ball. If it fails it is 100% on him.

TL;DR I will be excited if we get him, and 100% ok if we pass due to being too risky/expensive

The chiefs are masters at manipulating the cap. Brown is the ultimate win now assett

I have a feeling this is going to be Larry Fitzgerald 2.0. If June comes and goes, I hope some people aren't disappointed.

Well to be fair, Fitzgerald has never explicitly said he's not coming to New England. So there's still hope.
