They are there with the 1991 Skins. Dominated for a year but that's it.

At least the 85 Bears were bookended by teams in which went to the playoffs 5 straight years and 3 NFCCGs.

The 91 Skins played in a much tougher division with the Cowboys and Giants, both of which won super bowls around the same time period.

That Eagles defense was insane too... they have the best defensive DVOA by over 10 points. They were number 1 overall, against the pass, and against the run. They finished 10-6 but that’s because their offense was absolutely terrible.

Also the 1999 Rams are overrated as hell. They played 1 winning team in the regular season, and had the lowest SOS EVER recorded
Now you understand how fans feel about the Pats every year cake walking their way to a division title and getting a first round bye with ease.

To be fair, the Patriots have never came close to playing a schedule that easy. I remember seeing come commentary about how no team has came close to having as easy of a schedule as the 1999 Rams did.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those Philly teams led by Randall Cunningham and Reggie White and Jerome Brown...unbelievable how good the NFCE was back then.

This is a false narrative. Since 2001, the Pats have a better winning percentage vs the AFC South, NFC South, and AFC North than it does vs the AFC East.

Only one time a Brady led team lost the division title and that was when he was in his second year starting. The division has been garbage since then and the Pats have never been threatened by anyone in that division to take the title. It’s been an absolute joke and snooze fest since 2002.

Sure but that doesn't mean the Pats go 6-0 every year against the AFCE. While the other AFCE teams might be a joke, they've gotten their fair share of wins against us. Here is a breakdown of NE vs the rest of the league from 2001 to 2018....As you can see, NE has beaten every division consistently and had the most trouble against the AFCW (a lot of that has to do with their struggles in Denver). If NE were in the AFCW or AFCN, for example, they'd probably lose 1 more game. not a big deal IMO.

Division Win - Loss Win Percentage
AFC South 41 - 9 .820
NFC South 17 - 5 .773
AFC North 32 - 10 .762
AFC East 83 - 29 .741
NFC West 14 - 5 .737
NFC North 16 - 6 .727
NFC East 14 - 6 .700
AFC West 31 - 16 .660

Whoever made that commentary was incorrect. It was the 1999 Rams (.363) that 'came close' to the 2 SB winning teams with the worst SOS, the '72 Dolphins (.357) and the rock bottom '70 Colts (.352).

I think they were looking at the SOS that takes into account record, point differential, etc.

1999 Rams
- 5.88

1970 Colts
-5.81

1972 Dolphins
-4.27

You're right about the 1970 Colts though, they came close. Man the 1972 Dolphins and 1999 Rams are so overrated looking at everything

The patriots dominating the division can be about the patriots being good not the division being bad.

That doesn’t make any sense but okay.

Of course it does. A great team will dominate a division, whether the opponents are good bad or neutral.

I think post retirement BB will be a force here here for a long time as some sort of consultant that does require the rigorous schedule that he currently adheres to...
He'll forever haunt the hallways of Gillette; firing on the spot pop quiz strategy puzzlers to unsuspecting players to make sure they know what to do in any situation.

It's the same argument as it is w/ NE. People ***** about how soft the AFCE is but NE is always in the AFCCG or the SB.

1991 Skins were a very good team and made the divs in 90 and 92.

In terms of winning over time and extended playoff runs, a notch below the Bears.

91 Skins were great, but not on the level of the 85 Bears and 89 49ers

2007 Pat's versus 91 Skins is a good discussion

91 Skins win.
