[PSU clarifies - no athletes have this condition - misunderstanding] OT: PSU says myocarditis found in 35% of C19-positive Big 10 athletes

Relatedly, OSU's sports cardiology department did a 3-month study of Big 10 athletes (study currently in peer review) and found that 15% of the C19-positive athletes they tested had myocarditis. (And almost all the C19-positive athletes in the study and no or very mild outward symptoms.)

Semi-OT: Big Ten, Pac 12 will not play football in 2020

Semi-OT: Big Ten, Pac 12 will not play football in 2020

B-I-N-G-O Ben Sasse wrote to the Big Ten Conference arguing in favor of holding the season by saying that “life is about trade-offs.” And that’s true. But to get football the trade-offs needed to be made on our end. We needed to be wearing masks. We needed to sacrifice the economy in the...

Semi-OT: Big Ten, Pac 12 will not play football in 2020

Good. Never should have taken them this long to decide this. Hopefully the rest of the conferences fall in line. Also, Nocera is right on, here:

    Opt-Outs

"It's just a flu." "I signed more death certificates last week than in my entire life almost all put together," Varon tells NPR's Steve Inskeep on Morning Edition. A Houston Doctor On His Hospital's 'Deadliest Week' So Far

    Opt-Outs

If C19 was counted using the same methodology that is used to count flu cases, the C19 case count would be significantly higher than it already is. The other thing that cracks me up is that you denialists/minimizers apparently don't realize the flu case counts involve all sorts of estimation...

    Opt-Outs

The CDC's current estimated infection (not case) fatality rate is 0.65% (1:154). I expect 50-80% of the US population to catch it. But I'll humor you and go low and say only 20% (1:5) of the US population will catch it. That means the average person has an 0.2 chance of catching it and thus...

    League opt-outs

He "needs" to play because these entitled jerks feel they have some right to watch football the way they want it. Other than that, yeah, you're right -- it makes no effing sense at all.

Poll: How long do you think the 2020 NFL season will last?

It's very flawed. You have to divide by how many people have caught it, not by US population. You can't die from it if you haven't caught it. In any case, the CDC's current estimate of "people dead from it" divided by "everyone who caught it, even totally asymptomatic people" is 0.65%

Sort of OT: MLB Covid outbreak- season might be in jeopardy

German officials are "deeply concerned" because the country has it fairly under control, the officials aren't lunatic morons like officials here, and they want to keep it under control. From the very article you quote, here are the numbers for the whole country that has them concerned...

Poll: How long do you think the 2020 NFL season will last?

As for those excusing the idiots in the NFL front office for not having a plan ("oh, how could they make a plan months ago not knowing what was coming?"), give me an effing break. The NFL is awash in money. You hire a bunch of actual experts, have them develop 3, 5, or even 10 scenarios, and...

Poll: How long do you think the 2020 NFL season will last?

It should be no season at all. But since the owners are inhumane greedheads, they will force the season to happen, players be damned. But Nature and the virus hold all the cards and will force the season to end by week 9 and probably sooner.

The Official Patriots Opt Out Thread

I hope they all opt out. Key Points Question: What are the cardiovascular effects in unselected patients with recent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)? Findings: In this cohort study including 100 patients recently recovered from COVID-19 identified from a COVID-19 test center, cardiac...

The Official Patriots Opt Out Thread

High-risk optouts have their contract tolled like low-risk optouts do. However, unlike low-risk optouts they do get an accrued/credited season for purposes like calculating whether you are a UFA or RFA, pension stuff, etc.

Perfectly reasonable for him to opt out even if he didn't have a kid and was living alone.

The Official Patriots Opt Out Thread

Not currently. The optouts are, under the current agreement, irrevocable. However, the NFLPA letter to the players does leave open the chance that if something significantly changes for the better it may try to negotiate allowing optouts to opt back in.
