Mack’s off season grind

Gee, the only thing our guys are good at is catching the ball. Isn't that a really good thing?

Not just the catch metric. Diggs shows up on overall and on "open," while Douglas (surprisingly) is tied for first place on YAC.
Brown is one of only two receivers that appears in the top 15 across all metrics.

260 kg yoke / loaded bar shoulder carry. That's impressive for a WR. Teams are going to have a tough time matching up against him, Brown and Doubs plus a TE or two.

And add really strong catch performance - second only to Boutte in the ESPN rankings (Pats here had 3 of the top 5 catch performances in the NFL):

The catch category is SICK: 3 out of top 5 are PATRIOTS. !!!!

……I wonder who was throwing such catchable balls?

ESPN listed the top 5 receivers in the NFL in each of 4 different metrics. That’s 20 individual ratings. Out of those 20 individual ratings there were 6 Patriots (Diggs (3 times!), Boutte, Hollins, Douglas), that’s 30% of the top rated WRs in the entire league!

Don't know if it'd be the best use of his skill, but he seems like he could definitely handle the extra weight & mass addition and has the strength & grit if he ever wanted to do it.

I think it's the best shot at him extending his career. I don't think they will et him go this year, but I doubt he makes the roster in 27'.

Too skinny. 6'4, 221. For reference:

Hernandez: 6'1, 245
Kelce: 6'5, 250
Gronk: 6'6, 265
Gates: 6'4, 255
Henry: 6'4, 255.

That 30-40lb muscle difference is a gulf, and is the difference between a WR and TE.

I don't disagree on his size, but he plays bigger than he is, and I think his time at WR is running out.

No wonder why he’s such a good blocker in the run game.

His strength makes him a mismatch for opposing CB's, honestly. And he'll have that strength for a long time. Players like Mack can play further into their 30s because he ain't the most ATHLETIC kinda guy, he's a strong SOB that can out muscle, especially the lower he is on the depth chart. A freak about his health as well, I could see him sticking around for at least two/maybe three more productive and solid years. Which may not sound like a lot but that's the average span of an entire NFL career lmao, so that's a great window for your twilight at 32.

I see what you're saying, but I think he's great where he is.

Yes, and I’m a bit skeptical about Mack’s listed weight. I’m about 6’2” these days, since the knee replacements took an inch or so off my height, and I’m hovering right around 220 pounds. He’s listed at 6’4” and 221, but I don’t think he could be carrying that much muscle at 6’4” and not be much heavier.

My question about TEs is why do they need to be carrying those additional pounds? Especially for a move TE it seems weight would be a mixed blessing at most. The role Hollins plays in blocking seems like he’s doing a similar job now.

Because as a TE, you also have to block the 250+ LB/DE's right at the line. Both equally important parts there - consistently blocking bigger positions, and you are taking them on in a much tighter space. A big WR with space to build moment into a block, or picking on a avg DB, is way different.

As for the weight/height -

Josh Gordon - 6'3, 225lb
Larry Fitz - 6'3 218lb
Anquan Bolden - 6'1 220lb (thick as hell)
Julio Jones - 6'3 220lb
Randy Moss - 6'4 210lb

These are scientifically manufactured physiques that barely exist outside of football lol. So your hesitation to believe makes total sense, because in reality, nothing in the NFL makes sense lol.
