I guess that I disagree some.

There are several backup players who are on the team because they play ST's. They may be the emergency last position player, but they really are here to play ST's.

Absent injuries, I don't expect any of these ST positions to play many position reps.

I Don’t disagree with you;

it was the OP who said we could cut down if we only considered the 3 core as the ST-only players. I was discussing within that paradigm.

Then trying to differentiate between Gr (my new abbreviation for gunner), PR, and KR by assuming the particular body-frame/athleticism for their base position would help drive if they were usable at only particular ST roles. Most specifically that WR & thinner DBs were unlikely to be KR in the short KO modern NFL..

I thought this was the right number before Hill was injured. UI still think it right. Dippre is being developed for this. He should make the roster as the #3 TE. I know: others could beat him out. I think it more likely that we carry only 2 with 2 more on the PS and an OT being the jumbo 6th back. I actually could see Crownover being or jumbo back and emergency TE. I would expect that to happen if Dippre is inactive as he often could be if Raridon is ready for prime time.

It's not totally improbable Crownover gets some looks at jumbo TE, especially since Hill went down, and the battle for TE3 appears to be so open.

Crownover was a tight end and DE in high school and was recruited to Texas A&M as a TE. He converted to OT in college after his redshirt year.
He was also a basketball player in high school and recieved at least one offer fron a div 1 school to play basketball.

Barring injuries I think he has uphill climb to make the 53 first as an offensive tackle. Even if he does, the odds of him being part of the active 48 on game day is even slimmer.

I like the prospect, but he might need some development and strength training. Lomu and Bryant will be ahead of him on the depth chart by default entering camp. We’ll see…

He could also get game day elevations from PS.

I don't know about telling Mike Vrabel you want to play a guy out of position as a tight end...

I kid because I love. I'm not doing the time suck of counting positions against each other. No. Will not. Must not...

I do think we need Doubs, Boutte or Pop, and of course, AJB - then Boutte or Pop, Kyle W to represent the future, and one more out of Chism, Hollins, Other Kyke, the Professor and Maryanne. IOW, before I started making jokes at the end, we already had a good case for 6, in a vacuum. Of course, the whole point is that keeping 6 means dropping someone, etc. I think the known guys are good enough that we'd be in trouble trying to fill a cut player late in the season. If everybody's healthy, it's a luxury. Everybody's not staying healthy all 53 weeks or whatever it is now. Maybe the tiebreaker in the WR room is how much you bring to ST, or better yet "can he rush the quarterback."

2 QBs, not 3.

I think 3 RB + 1 FB (+1 tight end/out of position LB backing up the FB) will have to do us for the backfield. Lots of battles for those spots...

Crap, you can't do this without doing the whole 53. You guys do it, I have stuff to do. I'll come back and call guys wrong. I'm lazy.
