The Tom Brady rumor thread

Now you are changing the goalposts in your last sentence. Nowhere did I say Shanahan was a bad coach. I merely said what the rest of America thinks and that he is not the second best coach. I'm not googling anything. If you want to prove me wrong, feel free to post anything that would justify him being 2nd best ahead of future HOFers Andy Reid and most likely John Harbaugh. For whatever reason you are sensitive to criticism about Shanahan...no idea why. Then in other posts you trash Belichick as being a nothing without Brady.

I’m glad you speak for the rest of America. Nice straw man about Belichick...I know you had a really hard time accepting his coaching record without Brady, which you think is an opinion.

In any event, the poster said Shanahan is the 2nd greatest coach in the NFL which is as stupid as anything I've seen here.

These two statements, in literally consecutive posts, show how disingenuous you are, like your first statement didn’t invite a defensive response. In any event, you’re out there barking about Shanahan’s Super Bowl record while totally ignoring that he’s even in the Super Bowl with two different teams, absolutely pants’ing the rest of the NFL with his offensive schemes.

There is going to be very little cap room to sign anyone of note if the Pats sign Brady...they are going to have to free up some space by cutting some notable players.

There's plenty of cap room, unless the Patriots decide to keep playing the one year deal game. As has been true for years, the smart move would be to give Brady a long-term extension, which would allow the hit to be minimized.

Brady wants to play until he's 45. OK, so sign him to a 4 year deal, with 2 of the years effectively guaranteed, either via bonuses or actual guarantees. The third year can either be partially guaranteed or just a year where it's sensible to keep a QB who's still capable, but offers an out if the QB craps out in year 2. It should be easy to do, and it would keep the cap hit down.

And we wouldn't be here if the Patriots hadn't been stupid about least year's contract.

It'll be Tennessee or New England.

Brady isn't stupid and he realizes those are the only two franchises that give him a legitimate chance of assimilating (culture wise) and ultimately winning.

While I'm sure he wants to perform better personally than he did last season, he also realizes that he'd tarnish his legacy if he went out with 2-3, <10 win seasons.

I could see the draw of Tennessee being strong given their stout OL and the culture Vrabel has established, but at the end of the day I think the familiarity of New England, McDaniels, and the opportunity to win in the postseason will keep him here.

Not just their OL but a little guy named Henry, and another guy named Brown, and another guy named Humphries, and a guy named Davis who would have been the clear #2 WR here last year...

Just the thought of Brady and that runaway-truck RB they have on the same team has to be scaring the crap out of every defensive coordinator in the league, in my opinion. You can't load the box to stop Henry because then you have single coverage on all the wideouts, and Brady will find one of them. You can't sell out to stop the passing game because Henry will run for 300 yards...

It's sad to think about TB12 playing in a different uniform. But purely from the standpoint of wanting to see him get #7, the Titans would be a very, very tough team to stop if he goes there. And if Brady is able to convince Vrabel to sign AB, forget about it.

One of their best OL is a free agent. Idk about the titans just yet.

I think Brady can convince them to do that AB will be cheap and a shot to win the SB is one Tennessee/Vrable can’t pass on

Actually I think the Brady facetiming Vrabel thing almost has to eliminate Tennessee. How easy would it be to prove a tampering charge if he did sign with Tennessee. Imagine if Clowney was seen Facetiming BB? The internet would expolde. I'm sure that whole thing was staged for the Fallon show (because why else would you go to Syracuse?, I havent been back since graduation).

Nothing means anything until the new CBA is signed, nobody knows what the rules are, so nobody can negotiate.

Talk Gronk out of retirement, sign Antonio Brown, draft Thaddeus and Ruggs, easy as pie.

I feel like this point has not been discussed nearly enough. According to multiple reports Brady has been asking for an extension going back to 2017. If the Pats do want him as their QB in 2020 then what they did last off-season is a classic brain fart. Makes no sense especially considering the options they are noodling around are Dalton and Mariota.

It's been discussed plenty.

What do you think are the reasons why they did not extend him?

Age
His vision for his workouts and things like OTAs not aligning with Bills
Needs 1 yd screen passes to RBs to pad stats and get over 60% threshold.

Has this been confirmed? For all we know, Bill was fine allowing an over 40 year old who has been in the system for 20 years to skip it.

Mostly age. I mean if you were Bill would you give a long term contract to a 42 year old QB?

In general, I think OTAs are overrated. Teams can hold up to 10 of them, but last year the Patriots only scheduled 7 and then only actually had 5. I can see how it’s a good opportunity to check in on the fitness level of players, but it doesn’t seem that they try to accomplish a ton of actual development.

NE's best shot for 2020 is a Brady return. But I'm not convinced that his return assures NE a legit shot at the trophy and that might be the reason BB didn't lock the QB in long term.

If BB figures 2020 is such a long shot that he prefers a significant retooling, keeping Brady might not make sense. I trust his judgement.

The reason(s) are moot if they wanted him to be their QB in 2020 and their alternatives are Mariota and Dalton.
