But the fact that some players have converted says nothing about whether he can. Merriman and Ware do no tplay in 2gap systems either.

Whats makes you think the Jets will stick with 2gap 34 system?

Personally I would rather have Mayo over Gholston for a couple of reasons.
1. We've need a young ILB for a long time. We seem to sing rushing OLB frequently, the last one Thomas.

2.Mayo has steadily improve every year,it seems like th best is yet to come. Gholston while being a terrific talent from what I've read over the last three months is inconsistant, and may take plays off plus we pretty much know what he can do. IMO his potential to improve isn't as great as Mayo's who's been Steadily getting better

That is their system. They hired a defensive HC and that is his philosophy. They have revamped their roster to try to fit a 2gap 3-4.
Are you really telling me that they will abandon everything they believe in to accomodate a draft choice?

Dunno, they might tweak this into a 1gap 34. Seems the lb coach is a carry over from the 43. If the D line will shade to overload on Gholston's side, he could use his physical skills to pass rush. The problem is the MLBs has to cover plenty of ground. The second problem is every know and then, Gholston has to be "honest", hold the edge or not over pursue. I'll admit, I'm stretching this b/c I doubt Mangini has the system in place for a 1 gap since he cut his teeth on a 2 gap. In addition, it remains to be seen whether his defense can play this way and the LB and dline is still an unknown quantity.
