Official 2008 NFL Draft Discussion

It was time my friend. I think that they realized that for themselves last year.

I knew I liked Crable, but for some reason I had forgot he racked up so many tackles for loss in 2007. I knew he did good in that area, but when I went back and checked his profile this morning, that 28.5 tackles for loss stuck out big time. Four Forces Fumbles is also impressive.

Now, they need to get a thomper, either Goff or McClain, lol!

Michigan linebacker/defensive end Shawn Crable said he spoke at the Senior Bowl with the Patriots, who gave him an interesting piece of advice.

“Their biggest advice was – they kept saying ‘if, if, if’ – if we draft you, my responsibility will be to follow Pierre around,” he said. “That’s cool with me.”

By Pierre, they meant Pierre Woods, Crable’s former college teammate and close friend.

“We’ve talked a lot,” he said. “His mom lives in Michigan, about three houses down from us. During my freshman year, I stayed with him and his mom cooked for me and she calls me her son and everything. Me and Pierre are tight. The biggest thing he told me was to watch a lot of film and catch a lot of things and listen to the older players and the veterans a lot because they’re going to teach you things.”

Crable is a 6-4, 245-pounder.

quick snippet of crable and pats linked before.

How many times have they lost their guy when they waited?

Stewart Bradley from last year and other probably make them reach a bit to grab there guy.

You make a good point, and I guess if they think he's the best player for them there, it's the right idea.

The one thing I do like is that the two LBs we've picked seem uniquely suited to be Patriots.

You figure they played the odds. Traded the first 3rd rounder, figuring Crable would be there, but too many picks between 78 and 94, so they pulled the trigger.

Of course, it's entirely possible that Crable will be taking Woods' roster spot, as well.

I like Goff i dont want a pale presidential candidate being drafted for us.

I think SeanBruschi and I have mentioned Crable quite a bit. Tweeners are really difficult to predict. Avril, Crable, Robertson were all in the running. And of course the Pats have shown interest in all three.

Two of the WR's I like are off the board (Doucet, Bennett), but Caldwell, Hawkins, Johnson, and some others are still around.

Still some good TE's, LB's, Patriots CB's, Safeties, and RB's on the board.

Vince Wilfork insurance anybody?

Caldwell has a pedigree of butterfingers and displayed real butterfingers at his workouts and during games in college. That's why he's slipping and why I don't think the Patriots will touch him. Of course, I've been wrong before...

Iiiiinteresting.

They clearly trust Pierre Woods a good amount.

Woods was an outstanding prospect when he entered college, he's started to show up on special teams a lot recently, so maybe he's actually developing.

Anyone else surprised Avril is slipping? I wonder if he didn't interview well?

Tom Zbikowski is off the board.

I really liked just about everything I saw from Woods last year. A bit of positive affirmation for him from the coaching staff can't be a bad thing.

I actually agree. I think he still has a spot on the team and it might even be over an aging Larry Izzo, for instance, since Woods was a special teams ace last year.

love the hypocrisy here. ive been saying for 2 years how we needed to add youth and depth to our aging LB corps. and got nothing but grief for it. now that the team is finally doing something all the bandwagoners are saying how awesome it is we're getting multiple LBs in the draft.

I don't like this pick at all. I have no problem with the player, but you'd have to try hard to convince me he wouldn't have been there for us later on.

Sometimes I think BB and SP out-think themselves when they get infatuated with a guy, and end up taking him early when he would almost certainly be available later, I felt the same way about Wheatley.

You never know.....Many of us were hoping for Avril, when we picked Wheatley - saying Wheatley would be there later and we should have picked Avril at 62 - and it turns out Avril has lasted another 25 picks....I like the draft - increased youth and speed on defense!!!

I don't remember ever giving you grief for it, and in fact I would agree 100% with that position.

Thanks for the classy sentiments though.
