I like the modern practice squad. Having veterans in there gives a quasi minor league feel.

And with so many injuries, it actually makes for better football - you’re not grabbing as many people off the street to dress for a game, you actually have someone with knowledge of the system playing.

5 spots open. Generally (but not always), this means that extra spots will be filled by 1) guys cut from active roster today, 2) waiver pickups today who will then be released for the practice squad, or 3) external guys cut that they just haven’t had a chance to get the player in to sign the contract for whatever reason. It usually means that there’s no one else that will be signed from their existing cuts.

I agree that Lan Larisson still needs a bit of development but I'd like to see him getting some touches on real NFL games, some things you only learn on the job. The coaching staff can only assess potential in these conditions as well.

It’s definitely possible that a player has competing offers that he’s mulling over, too….. . Will be interesting to see what happens in his case.

From what I’ve seen/heard this camp, Saunders and Miller are the two I was hoping would be on the practice squad who already aren’t. We know Miller is injured, so maybe they’ll pick him up mid-season once his restricted time is up and he’s healthy. That just leaves Saunders, but the safety room is already full so it may not be in the cards….

He got two camps and was cut twice, this time in a weakish group.

If Swinson has another offer he should strongly consider it.

NFL.COM has been garbage in terms of updating things. I haven't seen anything on him except the suggestion that he wouldn't be back with the Pats.

Swinson & Saunders are a bit surprising. I thought they had something worth developing.

But I'm thrilled about Dixon & Larison - pieces for the future.

It could be that they're not sure how long the injuries will keep them out. @ctpatsfan77 mentioned that the DTR for players yesterday was automatic. Whereas, players IRed today, it's not. So the Pats may be keeping their options open with the remaining 7 DTR slots.
