Patriots Player Departure 2026 Patriots Roster Cuts Thread

For me it was Canada over Vildor.

Oh, Canada!

Sorry, someone had to do it...

" Great camp" to us and great camp to the coaching staff are 2 completely different things. We may see them make a few plays in pre season games against their fellow scrubs, the coaching staff sees everything they do, from the weight room and how they practice, to watching film of them extensively. And I think how fast and completely they are picking teaching up plays a big role in their final determinations. They can see whether they are picking up the coaching and improving on a daily basis, and they can see if a guy has plateaus and is unlikely to get much better. We have extremely limited exposure to most of what they are doing, so it's not surprising that we are often surprised by final cuts.

I'm often more surprised by who they keep instead of who they cut. As you suggest the coaches see that the player has potential in ways we don't see, but they get that assessment wrong more than we'd like. The obvious example is how our coaches kept WRs like Harry and Thornton around for so long thinking they could be WR1s but they never got there, and let good but not great WRs like Bourne and Meyers go. At least this year they decided to bring in talent from outside the organization rather than trying to get chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.

Unless you are a person who combs the game film, you can't really assess the value of special teams players, except maybe gunners. I think players like Hutchins might have made it on special teams hustle.

I don’t really see that trend, certainly not from the examples of Wallace, Swinson and Dippre. Wallace was drafted by the previous regime, Dippre wasn’t drafted at all, and Dippre and Swinson were both cut last season.
Yeah, Swinson and Dippre were primarily signed to the 53 in order to protect them from being signed away from the PS to someone else's 53 in-season.

Prunty, Crownover, Hutchins, Obiazor, and Morton all made it.

Maybe our late draft wasn’t as bad as we thought?
Crown is the one in that group that I’d love to see become something.

Chainning Canada is lucky he's a Patriot or the President would change his name to America.
There would be no way to know - because of your love of isolationism - but there are real feelings about the trade war and maybe it’s best not to joke too much while people’s livelihoods are on the line…

Really, I can joke about Canada all I want to. Beaver lovers.

There are sites that track special teams snaps, tackles and team stats.

We don't need a replacement for Gibson. We have 2 in Henderson and Stevenson already. Kiner is more of a physical back.
We needed a RB3. Gibson was perfect for the role until he got hurt. Everyone else since wasn't cutting it. I don't care if Kiner is more physical or someone more diverse (in a Dion Lewis sense) but we needed to get a better RB3 in case someone got hurt.

Actually the Bills tried to sign Swinson off of the practice squad and he said that the Patriots were teaching him how to be a pro and he wanted to stay where he was.

It really sucks for Swinson. Seemed like he had so much potential, and even that he worked so hard on personal stuff to bear down and accept competition - all to just get cut for Hutchins & Jacas (who sat around all offseason, even though he is a 2nd rounder)
