The Injured Four Could Be Kept on PUP, NFI and made DTR on cut day

I don't see any really agonizing cuts this year in any case.

Vrabel could delay the decisions on Bryant and/or Brown by a week if he wishes by putting them in the 53 and then deciding whether he thinks they need to be out for 4 weeks. Hopefully, they are both almost ready to come back and therefore will be on the 53.

One option at OT is too have Conley on the PS and elevate him for at least one game, giving Brown and Bryant until September 20th.

We haven't heard anything about Brown since the injury. The fact that he wasn't immediately IRed and gone for the season is good news. At worst, I expect him IRed at Cut-Downs.


There have been zero updates on Bryant's ankle injury. I don't believe he spoke to the media after the game. Which is usually indicative of a decent injury. The fact he wasn't immediately IRed says that the Pats figure him to be back.

So, it's a fairly accurate assumption that Bryant will hit the In-Season IR and will get DTRed when he's ready.. Brown may or may not get IRed depending on how he's doing. If he's not, then the Pats will likely carry Campbell, Moses, Lomu, and Crownover. for the OTs. They'll carry AVT, Wilson, Onwenu, Van Roten and either Rizy or Hudson. Rizy acutally gives them more depth because he plays all 5 positions during his college career, but he'll likely be focused on C/G Especially with Van Roten in front of him who also can kick out to T in an emergency and has done so.

According to Vrabes, there is an outside change that both Landry and Schooler could be activated by Cutdowns. I figure they both will move to the respective Reserve Lists for PUP/NFI.

And I’m pretty sure if Schooler or Landry are activated they will use a roster slot. I guess if they were activated before cutdown day they’d also be eligible to go to preseason IR-DTR without going to the 53. That might get them active sooner than if they were still on PUP/NFI on cutdown day but I’m not sure of that.

I believe the time lost is 4 weeks for IR-DTE, PUP or NFI.

I am just glad Crownover showed up last night and we got to see his development. I don't think we can afford to cut him so your plan works. If Crownover puts on 15-20 lbs of muscle by year 2-3, he is going to be incredibly nasty. He is already 6"7/319 which looks light for his frame.

Based on the rules as I read them Landry and Schooler can be placed on the PUP without wasting a roster spot because they never practiced or played in preseason. Teams also have two available designations for IR-to-return so they don't have to use a roster spot on cutdown day for Brown or Bryant.

Based on this they should be okay as far as cutdown day.

There's lots and lots of room for upgrades. I quickly did a roster that included all 4 injured on the 53 and virtually all the questionable players.

Another player worth mentioning is Baringer, if he is significantly injured, but he would just be replaced by Haack if so, so there is no real net gain/loss outside of possibly burning an IR-DTR slot.

Bedard said this week that he thinks Landry is close. Probably won't play week one, but could be back in the line up by week 2 or 3. So I doubt he starts the season on PUP or IR designated to return.

for me, the difficulty is deciding ready to play week 1 vs developmental potential.
Will Prunty be the better player this year more so than Woods or Dial?
Will Crownover be the better player this year more so than Hudson?
If 2 of Chism, DeGennaro and Dixon can get to the PS, does the team need to carry 6 WR's?

One of my goals was to demonstrate how easy it is to include all but the most marginal players on the 53.

I agree with you. I thought he looked pretty good last night , especially on one run where he blocked a LB/DB right out of the picture. Playing to the whistle. I think he was 336 lbs at the combine. So I think he could be something. I still think he plays a little too upright, but it hasn't seemed to hurt him yet.

I think if they believe Baringer will be out at least 2 weeks then they will just IR him for 4 weeks and give Haack the job for 4 weeks. It would also be an extended tryout for Haack considering Baringer is a free agent after the season.

Combine had him at 319. Thats where I got it from.
