Curran: "In my estimation... [Gonzo would like to] be treated as if he's at the table in 2027." [previous title: "say goodbye to gonzo"]

If a deal is reached, people here need to be prepared to see Gonzalez getting a deal $3 or $4m above Witherspoon.

Because I'm sure Gonzalez is looking at the deals that other defenders are getting. Witherspoon got Jeffrey Simmons money. Gonzalez is looking at TJ Watt, Jalen Carter, Aiden Hutchinson.
It's hard to argue that he's not at least that much better than Witherspoon, who is essentially a slot corner.

I'm sure this is all covered in the CBA or else there would not be a rule about minimum number of games played to have your contract toll. It wouldn't make sense to have a player be suspended for the whole season and still have that minimum # of games provision.
I assume there are rules around it. I was asking what they are.

Hard disagree. A two year deal starting now is a lousy deal for the team. He’s already under contract for two years now. If he’s trying to tear that up the way you describe the team is well justified to dig in their heels and insist on a real extension, not the fiction you propose. That would just be paying more for what they already have under contract. If Gonzo is playing that game the team needs to insist on a six year contract with four years being set in stone.
???
I'm suggesting that he will get a 4 year extension with lots of guaranteed money and a $40M-$50M bonus payable now. Gonzo would be OK for 2 years. Then he will be able to do as he is doing now, asking for more, even though he is under contract.

I suggest that a trade is possible at that point and that we should be prepared for such a situation.

Ok, that wasn’t clear. If you’re talking about a four year extension starting in two years that puts him under contract for six years so it’d be four years from now that we’re back in the same mess we are today. I’d like it to be longer, but it’s still better than a four year contract replacing the two years he has remaining on his current contract, as some have suggested might be possible. That would be terrible, because we’d be right back in this mess in just a couple of years.

I dont have Twitter. It says on this link (last edited…1:38 pm July.1,2026). Dies that mean this is an old link that he got wrong or is this an up to date link
I didn’t notice that but excellent point: old link. Apologies for my confusion.

Who are the people? Because a lot of people are mocking that Drake Silver guy on his own thread for getting things wrong, and he's even joking about things.
Sorry I''d have to go back and look through history on X, Silver was one but there was the Cheese grater guy and then another guy that was actually first yesterday and posted a video about it and but said its done but not sure when it will be announce but he guessed Friday. Then there was a 4th guy with the information about the 10 million being the hold up.
If I get time I'll try to find them but hoping the deal gets announced tomorrow and will be moot.

I can't find the first one from yesterday since its older history harder to find, that guy posted a video and talked about the deal being done.

Just pay the man.
And do the same for Maye. Whatever he wants.
They are the only indispensable Patriots.
They are both the most valuable at their prospective positions in the league.

The Drake Silver one is from July 1st

Fact of the matter is, the flexibility a top 3 CB gives you is huge on defense in the modern NFL. Similar to what Emmanwori gives the Seahawks, albeit a different range of flexibility.

You don't find players like Gonzo anymore, who allowed a single reception to JSN on 14 matchups that evening. He's only grown to be more disciplined and is truly a force. I thought it'd be a LONG time before we have another Gilmore and quite frankly, it looks like we already have someone who is better.

We didn't win without Gilmore, we didn't win without Revis, we didn't win without Law. 2016 might be the least star studded backfield we had, but it was unnaturally stout at each position AND our DL was very, very effective.

The only Diva here, and one that has been noted to be as much by anyone doing financial dealings with him - football and beyond - is Kraft.

Get this man signed, goddamnit.

This bomb Curran dropped is something else. BB was going to pick Keion White at 17, but had to get talked out of it by everyone else urging him to take Gonzalez. This is why Bill had to go after the end of the season.

Kraft is 31st in the league in cash spending since buying the team. He doesn’t wanna give mega contracts in back to back years, too much guaranteed money.
