PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp - Day 20

The thing with Prunty is he was one of our 30 visits. So when we picked him late in the 5th round, I don't know how anyone could have doubted the pick. It wasn't some stab in the dark.
Yup. I was absolutely fine with the pick in the 5th. Last year was not a deep draft. Because of our two trade ups, we missed out on a lot of pretty good prospects in the 4th so if we come out of that draft with a key outside corner backup or even a potential CB2, that's a pretty big win.

fighting for roster spots with Muma and Jacobs
Speaking of…Muma has not looked good in camp. That’s another ILB that possibly won’t be much of an impact.

I am beyond stupified by the lack quality at ILB…how could the Patriots not see this coming? We all saw it.

Britt has been pretty solid.

Britt has been pretty solid.
Solid? He’s played better than I thought he would (recently) but it’s not good enough to be 1st off the bench. He’s fine if he can take it up a notch from where he is now…then we’re talking.

I, for one, am always deeply entertained by any fan outrage about picks in the 5th, 6th or 7th round. It says so much about an individual.

I mean, for a WR, winning and good stats kind of go in hand. Aside from blocking, how does padding your stats for a WR work detrimentally against winning?
When Jalen Hurts-your-offense is throwing the ball, expecting high volume targets doesn't lead to winning.

I expect him to be much happier with McDaniels sabotaging the run game and Drake pulling the trigger.

Just catching up on this. Thanks everyone for doing the heavy lifting.

My overall 2nd hand impression: If the Patriots had played with this kind of intensity in the SB against Seattle, they might have had a chance.

lol for once in my miserable life, id love to be able to get to a point in my life where i can go to one of these....its actualy funny how ALL of the preseason games I've been to were to teams i dislike heavily...dallas and tampa for example....oh the freebie things some employers give away... /onedayillbethere

I'm going to give them the benefit of thinking there's a built in trauma for Patriots fans and safeties they haven't heard of.

I didn't know much about Woodson when they picked him, but when I read up on him and looked at the clips I loved what I was reading and watching. You don't need your safeties to run 4.3's, you need them to have really good instincts, a high football IQ, good communication, and good coverage and tackling skills. Woodson had the right qualities to become a very good safety.

Agreed. See Woodson last year - same thing. The Pats are pretty good at finding secondary players.

The question is if Kyle Williams will work out or not.
Wooden was an older prospect as was 24 at the time of the draft, and had a great rookie season. Prunty was also 24 whe drafted.

It's only two players, but so far they seem to have a knack of finding good older DB prospects.

It is funny. My Instagram has been flooded with endless reels from Eagles influencers gaslighting about AJ Brown's day. Of course they show the first play of the practice where Quinyon Mitchell covered Brown and Brown dropped the ball. Then they make is sound like AJ Brown had a horrible practice and the real star of the day was Dontayvion Wicks (they showed the one play where he ran one way and the defender ran the other at the LOS). One influencer did show the one play where Brown made a great catch, but it was from a mile away and he claimed there wasn't a better angle on it although you can see the video of that play close up multiple times in this thread.

No mention of Brown going seven for seven in 7 on 7s and 11 on 11s. No mention that the Pats' passing offense dominated the Eagles. No mentions of Hurts throwing three picks. You would think based on these reels that Maye and Brown were shut down and Hurts and Wicks dominated the practice. One guy actually said that trading for Wicks might have been the greatest offseason move by any team.

If today's practice is any indication on how the Eagles are going to start the season, the Eagles fans are going to be in for a huge shock. From all the reports, their offense isn't ready for primetime. Granted they were missing their top receiver and their first round pick.

Because he wasn't people's draft binky. Yes, that's really the reason. These are people that will only read from 2 or 3 draft guides, and take their opinions at 100% face value - never having actually watched a college football game.

It's the same every year. They did the same **** with Woodson last year.
The question is, why did all the draft experts miss utterly on this guy?

not good for Crownover
Is it more about Bryant's development? He seems to have stepped up into the swing tackle OT3/4 role. He is only a few months older than Crownover as well.

Not surprised Crownover is running with the 3s because of Lomu and Bryant.

Eagles fans are the most delusional in the entire league. They are fed propaganda 24-7-365 and they buy it hook line and sinker.

Same here.

And I had pretty much the same reaction after we drafted Prunty this year.

No need to apologize, it was the opposite of a ****ty job, in fact rather stellar as your posts consistently have been.

Your posts are always a high point. THANKS!

Particularly appreciate your comments about WRs and the OL. Hearing your impressions of Hollins and KW is both helpful and encouraging.
@patfanken, I agree with everything he said^^
I laughed out loud at your mention of the fans cheering when the clouds came. ( cuz of the heat)
Was great your comments on KW.
I saw all the clips and hes been steadily improving for a while. One clip showed a great stop on a dime Edelmanesque move that lost a defender. That's something he didn't have last season.
But its great to hear from someone who actually watched him live and is extremely knowledgeable football-wise.
I have occasionally disagreed with you but that's pretty rare and I am thankful for all the knowledge you've imparted here over the years. Like everyone else, I look forward to your posts.

NFL Network had Sal Pal on, interviewing AJ after practice. Sal opened by commenting about how the Pats called Brown’s number on the very first play, and asking if he was held? AJ chuckled and muttered “maybe a little”. They ran several angles on the replay, some clearly showing a grab of Brown’s belt to stay close going downfield. Unclear it would’ve been called in live game action but it seemed that if it were called there’d be enough to justify it.

IIRC that was Woods, and he got completely turned the wrong way. Almost as thoroughly beaten as Cooperation DeJean was beaten by Pop Douglas on his worst rep. Of course Pop beat him on two other reps as well.

I think hurts is a good guy so it’s gonna be somewhat tough for me to root against him, but the eagles fans have been absurdly annoying all offseason about everything involving the aj brown storyline. Taking shots at drake too.

It will be very interesting to watch hurts without aj brown there. Dvonta smith is good and all, but he was there those first couple years when hurts was pedestrian at best.
