It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Really hope Gozo takes a contract with great up front $$$$$$ and not outrageous cap hits. That said you gotta Draft a CB whenever you can can early. It's a Premium Position in the League. The Majority of these CB's getting paid are First Rounders.Gonzo has to play for the contract to toll.
Worst case scenario, we get a year of elite play, then a Sauce Gardner style pick package and cap flexibility to extend Maye and bring in a big FA.
It's not a 100% win, but it's a first world problem.
I don't agree with your logic that the agent looks bad with Witherspoon if Gonzo jumps him by too much. Part of being a player's agent is being honest and realistic with them. Witherspoon is a great player but not so great that making a big leap forward at the position was a realistic contract goal. For Gonzo, that is a realistic target.Interesting situation for the team and agent. The team has their template with Witherspoon deal done, they shouldn't be offering less. It's also an interesting situation for the agent as Gonzalez is going to expect more, but the agent can't really look for a deal that's much bigger than the one he got for Witherspoon without Witherspoon wondering why he wasn't trying to get him that money. He can't try for 36+ without looking bad. So the parameters are pretty clear, I think we're looking at $34 a year with $105 guaranteed. The Patriots should get that done and move on to the next deal.
How are the Krafts cheap when they offered him a contract that would have made him the highest paid CB in football, and the biggest contract in Patriot’s history ?Gonzo is greedy and the Krafts are cheap. Not a good combo.
Gonzo has made 3,113,000 his first 3 years, and will make 2,259,000 this year. The 2,259,000 is more than any of us will see in a lifetime.Gonzo has probably 10 years at most to make as much money as he can to support himself for the rest of his life, his family for the rest of theirs and any future generations in his bloodline that he can. I'll never fault any of these guys for looking out for their own best interests.
Can't say I don't envy that Agent: that said Witherspoon was considered a Better Player coming out. I would not Give Gonzo a penny more Match on the Table...take it or leave it Gonzo! So, are we gonna pay the man or not?
IMO, his benchmark is the Witherspoon deal. Match that or offer a little less because he was drafted AFTER Witherspoon.
This is not complicated. I think it is just his agent juggling two players….
Considering Bobby decided to publicly state they intend to make him the highest paid corner in the league, not sure I would put the delusions 100% on Gonzo.. He's a premium player and will try to get top dollar as they usually doThe problem the Pats may have is that if Gonzo is delusional in his demands, what team would even want him? He’s becomes untradable.
It happens all the time with top tier guys though. It just happened with Witherspoon. And JSN before. Why would the Pats completely reset the market with Gonzo? He’s not a FA. If he plays hardball we can still keep him for 3-4 years: make him play out his current deal and then franchise tag him for a year or 2.
He doesn’t hold all the cards here. No way would I reset the market for a guy we can keep here anyways.
This year not the follow or subsequent years. The Pats hold all the cards here: if Gonzo thinks he can play hardball. The problem the Pats may have is that if Gonzo is delusional in his demands, what team would even want him? He’s becomes untradable.
I don't know why Bob didn't keep his Mouth Shut... Gonzo is one of the Better Young CB's. They're quite a few in the League Today. There's no one or two distinct players @ CB... sorry Gonzo.Considering Bobby decided to publicly state they intend to make him the highest paid corner in the league, not sure I would put the delusions 100% on Gonzo.. He's a premium player and will try to get top dollar as they usually do
Kraft should shut up about contracts, it's in the franchise's best interests that he does so immediately.
for how many games?Gonzo has to play for the contract to toll.
So you plan on working the fries at McDonald's your entire career? The 2,259,000 is more than any of us will see in a lifetime.
Witherspoon didn’t reset the market though. He got the biggest contract, but it didn’t blow away the other top recent CB signings. I’m all for making Gonzo the highest paid CB, but I’m not for him resetting the market so he’s still the highest paid after next season when the next batch of CB contracts are done. There’s no need for the Pats to do that.It happens all the time with top tier guys though. It just happened with Witherspoon. And JSN before.
Dont leave out all the income tax that Gonzo paid.Gonzo has made 3,113,000 his first 3 years, and will make 2,259,000 this year. The 2,259,000 is more than any of us will see in a lifetime.
I side with Kraft on this one. At the time of the offer, it was higher than any CB in history, and the biggest Patriot’s contract ever. Obviously over 32 mill a year. When is it ever enough ? At this point, it’s all about ego and greed on Gonzo’s side.
Make him play under his contract agreement he’s under.
Triumph you in the Millionaires club??Dont leave out all the income tax that Gonzo paid.
