Can we get some competition at kicker?

I’ll wait to see how he does with his regular long snapper instead of panicking about one game with a replacement snapper.

I would rather see Vrabel build his confidence up than playing kicker roulette.

Yeah, even as late as maybe....2010?.... 50+ yard field goals were considered really tough to make. These days they're not as amazing to make.

Little trivia I picked up... It took 28 years (1970 to 1998) for Jason Elam to match Tom Dempsey's 63 yarder. In the 28 years since, 63 yards has been matched or broken 11 times.

A bad game with a new holder is plenty to question the skills of our kicker. ROFL

That being said, with 90 roster spots and 16-17 PS spots after the season starts, it seems reasonable to use one spot on a kicker, and even one on a punter.

I wonder if the new turf had any effect is this.

I just feel AB isn’t anywhere near the degree of kicker that won us championships.
I would like to see some competition for him to at least make him sweat a little more.

Would it shock you to know that as a rookie he had a higher FG% that Adam Vinatieri did for his career, and only 2% below gostkowski but 8 points higher than his rookie year?

They were not any better then him at this stage of their careers

If the Pats cut him, it would be a dead money cap hit of less than $200,000.

Because of that, I refuse to believe he's dumb enough to assume that starting the regular season 6 for 15 would be perfectly acceptable because the team never brought in competition for him in training camp.

I'm certainly not against competition, but his job is to make kicks, his coach publicly called him out right after the game for missing kicks, and his contract is such we could move on for basically nothing. I don't think making him sweat a little more will make a difference.

He had a preseason game last year where he went 1-3. Then in the regular season’s first two games he went 1-3 in those 2 games. Then he straightened out the ship the rest of the season.
He was working with a new long snapper which may or may or may not affected his approach to the ball. But do you expect him to-make every kick. We know what he is capable of. Let it play out

Nope. I watched him 2 hours before the game against the Colts and he was fine. His mechanics break down during games.

Didn’t realize the post was about bringing in the legendary Jake Moody. I want the Pats to stay far away from that guy. I watched him a lot in SF and it was brutal. My friend has been a lifelong 49ers fan and I’d do over to watch the games. Seeing Moody miss the easiest kicks made my friend erupt. The 49ers put up with it for far too long.
