I don't understand the grief Chism gets.

It's the same grief that Welker and Edelman both got initially. I can distinctly remember numerous people on this board HATING the Pats signing Welker. Every excuse we're hearing about Chism is what we heard about Welker. Even when Welker played good, people credited the play to Brady.

I'd love for someone to explain how this was a fumble at the goalline. The ball is clearly across the plane when the ball is knocked free so it has to be a TD or runner down surely?

So, this is what I see. When Pharms gets his shoulder on the ball, the Runner upfield of the Colts O-lineman Sills. Sills right hip is outside the endzone when the ball is loose. So, I'm not sure how you can say that the ball crossed the plane.



Look at where Sills' torso and legs are.. His entire upper body is outside the end zone. The runner's elbow hits Sills in the 8 on his jersey. That's not across the line,




This is where the ball comes loose. just a couple frames later. Sills has moved parallel to the End Zone line and still isn't in it.



This is just a couple frames even later. The ball is loose. You can see it beside/below the shoulder stripe of Pharm's uniform. You can see that Stills' right hip is still outside the endzone and that is what the ball is touching.

The only way to know, for certain whether the ball crossed the plan is with an over-head shot where they highlight the goal line.

I think this is something they got right.

The Colts still have possession with the ball across the goal line. You can see the blue glove.



The defender reaches down and knocks the ball out of the hand. This where the fumble happens. Even if it did happen where you say it did, it was still recovered by the Colts at that stage.



The ball comes free. This is where the Pats recover it.

Kyle Williams clearly has something that you can't teach, speed and quickness.

Larison looked great coming out of the backfield going out on routes.

Raridon looks to have thr physical tools to be a really good receiving TE.

Surprised by how well DeVito played. His OL didn't him much of a chance but he stayed composed.

Turned the game off at half time... Every real piece of action there was, the stream crapped out... It was annoying

A few thoughts
Devito is not a starter, he has some touch but needs a lot more work... Still we kept the right guy letting go of Dobbs

Lomu is raw... Not sure if it was just jitters but with how some guys talked about him replacing Campbell this year, I expected more... Swing tackle at best right now

Larison has good hands... Nice to see him run good routes and make the catches

Kyle Williams needs more playing time... Damn that boy can get open when he wants to

Vildor and purty looking good in the backfield

Both lines got swallowed whole last. Night... Not too impressive... OL was the depth playing, so there's that... Not sure about the dl... Not sure who was who so help a fella out and give me your opinions on their play...

Liked the turnovers... Disliked borregales last night... He's better than that...

Miss anything of note in the second half?

Ashby wasn't playing last night. So they had a new Long Snapper. I didn't see the misses, so it's hard to say if that was the issue or not.

Stirring the pot further…Larison vs. Chism rather than Larison vs. Miller? Larison certainly looked better as a KR.

How is this "stirring the pot"? Larison was an excellent KR in college. He had 43 returns with a 26.2 average per return. Chism only averaged 21 yards per return on kick-offs in college.

The two most impressive players by my eyes last night were Raridon and Prunty.

I didn't focus on him, but Lomu's numbers seem good.

Kyle Williams looked good, but the play Vrabel yelled at him for not drawing the PI is the type of little things he still misses.

Right, but I’m looking beyond the KR role to a more general roster battle. Most of the discussions have assumed that Miller and Larison are battling for the last RB job while Chism is in a separate battle for the last WR job.

Let’s imagine all three players are on the roster, but you only have room for one to be active on game day. Miller is the best runner, Chism is the best receiver. But Larison is enough of a runner for emergency and garbage time duty and enough of a receiver to take some snaps in the slot, and, as you point out, the best KR. IMO Larison’s the one who ends up on the field.

Britt and swinson impressed . Not sure how much it means in preseason but those are 2 areas where our depth was questionable.

Borregales was pretty shaky last preseason. Ai says he was 3/5 and I remember one of those misses against the Vikings was way worse than any of yesterday’s. Not concerned yet

I like our rb depth, glad we took the conservative route there.

Prunty and vildor continue to look like great finds.

I hope Williams can find some looks this year in a stacked wr room. He’s a weapon

Seemed indy moved the ball pretty easily in half 1. credit the defense for those punchouts but it was a bit concerning for our depth up front.

I think what we are going to see with most of the receivers is a game of mismatches. Doubs and Boutte, if he's still here, will get more opportunities against smaller DB's, and Williams against those who aren't as quick. And Williams will be used to stretch defenses and create space underneath for the rest of the offense.

Looks like per the PFF grades, the stars of the night offensively and defensive were Marcus Bryant and KJ Britt.

Like to see it with Bryant. There’s a chance he’s the next man up at tackle this year, even ahead of Lomu. He seems like he could be a good spot starter. KJ Britt was also a nice surprise. I gathered he was falling behind at LB. But he looked fast and was darting all over the field last night. Looked much better than Muma.

Other performances of note: Lomu and Jacas looked fine. Had some good and some meh with both. But nothing discouraging by any means from either. Seemed like Lomu made some nice blocks.

I also thought Vildor and Prunty looked very nice last night. I think the CB depth is better than we realize.

Remember that when the Pats added in a 7th round pick to the Welker deal some folks here went ballistic?
Us early squirrel supporters also faced ridicule. Edelperson was criticized for not many touches but some of us noticed how well he did with limited opportunities. He improved each season. Good players do that. It's a leading indicator.
