If Pats had resigned Diggs and not made the Brown trade, they woukd still have the 28 first rounder and 27 5th rounder.
The difference between AJ Brown and Stefon Diggs is in now way equal to the first rounder they gave up.
AJ Brown trade was a panic desperation move that they will regret in April 2028.

Think about it logically . What makes our 2026 better (a year in which we have legit SB hopes)?
Trading Boutte for a 5th?
Or keeping him for one more year?

For all the talk about Brown and if that deal was good or bad, I wonder why no one ever brings up the contract. His cap hits the next 4 years are 7M, 11M 18M and 23.5M (at 32 years old). If he is a #1 WR still that is a bargain. We paid 23M for Diggs cost the Pats 29.5M total i believe when you include dead cap for 1 year.

The Pats at any point can cut him after this year and it cost only 4M. After next year it is free. His contract also makes them tradable next year if he is not a fit. Yeah, they are probably not getting a first rounder even if he has a REALLY good year and they trade him. But if he produces a high 2nd is possible.

IDK how he will look. But i do know this... People on this board seem alergic to investing a first round pick into a WR. When you don't do that you get desperate and have to make moves like this... The lack of investing to get a WR1 in the draft causes us to over spend on Diggs and trade for an aging Brown, no matter how good the contract is.

This is why next really I REALLY want to use our first pick on a WR if one falls and is value. Because it would stop us from having to do things like this and compromise on older problematic WRs.
