PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp - Day 9

IF Pop's is in the mix they're carrying Six WR's. A Slot guy should feast with Brown and Doubs on the outsides.

Pop in the toughest cover in the slot, Chism has really good instincts in zone coverage to get open.

I don’t think the Boutte truthers understand positional importance or scheme fit and why it matters.

But Pop Douglas hasn't been very good there; I hope he's a late bloomer *year four*. That said let's not put him in Canton just yet...maybe Canton Mass until further notice.

Woz: you don't think Boutte fits our scheme??

He out produced Boutte and every other WR on the roster in 2024. How quickly they forget…

I think he does what AJ Brown and Doubs do… only not as good. He doesn’t play the slot as well as Douglas and likely Chism.

Good player, but redundant and wants to get paid. “Like” has nothing to do with it.

With our other weapons on Offense; Pop should be able to produce like that Slot above^.
He’s never played in a productive competent offense, this is his year to finally get the system… assuming he’s still here.

Drake also has to find him and get it low and away, he seems to favor taller guys and throwing high and away. We saw some connection grow the latter half of last season. Time to put it all together.

he did last season, and he was extremely productive
he caught 68% of his targets
he averaged 10 yards per target
of his 31 rcpts, 20 were either first downs or touch downs
he had 2 drops
when thrown at, his rating was 120

Pop's issue is his usage rate
will be worse this season

Pop hasn't proven much to me that he belongs over Boutte. Dude goes MIA for long stretches. Will that change this year? I guess it might. Boutte has performed in very big moment.

Good point: Pop Douglas was on the lesser end of the snap counts last year. But he did make the most of his opportunities though. It seemed like Kyle Williams was getting decent snaps over him but only had 10 receptions to show for it.

Last year all the media were saying the practices were very easy. We are not hearing that this year. Vrabel is probably more aggressive this year because the players know the system now and the Pats' schedule is pretty tough in the first month (Seattle, Pittsburgh, Jags, and Bills) and they cannot afford to come into the season kinda finding their footing.

We gotta try and steal at least one on the road early on. A 2-2 start is as good as it gets.

Seems like Chism will be the 7th man out, if all remained as is today, and they just have to trim WRs to 6 for numbers.
BUT, I'll keep watching for the Foxboro Flu. KW being out a few practices, and who knows. Some guys are rockstars in camp, but game schemes and sight adjustments ruin them. Chism is one of those guys that won't wow in practice that often, but is a total gamer. Maybe more so than Pop (due to size & durability) and certainly more than KW (versatility, consistency and being QB friendly).
