OT: Tony Romo Arrested For OWI

I don’t think Romo was legally drunk. Maybe a couple of beers an hour or two before being pulled over. But he talked too much and shouldn’t have agreed to the field sobriety test. Dog and pony show. Probably should have agreed to the breathalyzer at that point.

My biggest concern is the female cop talking to him on the driver’s side with all that traffic going by on a busy highway not much more than two feet from her.

The probable cause looks dubious from the interactions. He didn’t act inebriated by his speech.

Saw the bodycam on YouTube. The police officer seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. The case will probably get tossed.
Agree it's a slam dunk for his lawyer. There was no probable cause and the officer just flat out accused him of drunk driving in the day time. Romo was actually really nice and cooperated with the officer.

The sobriety tests are a **** show. Even the officers have a hard time explaining it because it so ridiculous.

No clue how anyone can watch the bodycam footage and think he wasn't under the influence. The guy couldn't stand still or take basic instructions like putting his arms by his side.

If he had an open container in the car when he was pulled over his lawyer has a tough fight ahead. Not a slam dunk. Except maybe for the prosecutor.

More recent reporting indicates she stopped him because he was driving/passing in a breakdown lane.

(He had an open bottle of alcohol in his car)

There aint no way that Romo skates on this.

1 Probable cause to stop - Dashcam video shows Romo driving erratically passing vehicles in the break down lane.
2 Probable cause to test for impairment - The LEO smelled alcohol emanating from his vehicle. Found open container.
3 Romo refused a breathalyzer.

Game, set and match.

According to the article, he’s facing roughly $1,250 in fines. I don’t know that you hire Johnnie Cochran, Rob Kardashian, F Lee Bailey, Alan Dershowitz and Robert Shapiro to fight a $1,250 fine, hoping to get off on some technicality. Especially since 3 of those guys are dead.

Whether he gets off on a technicality or not, CBS is going to do whatever they want to do with him, which is probably nothing.

I think his ad deal with Corona is probably done. Otherwise he will pay the fine, do some pubic service crap at the advice of his agent and go on with his life. CBS will keep him. His behavior wasn’t threatening or abusive.

None of that should be taken as trivializing an OUI

Although many of the lawyers you listed are dead, and have been for a while. They would find a way to come back to life if the money and publicity were enough.
Many research labs are using lawyers instead of lab rats. There are more lawyers than lab rats. And there are things lad rats won't do.

CBS has apparently already released a statement that he “may step back for a bit,” but that he won’t be fired

I don't know many LEOs, but the ones I know say that this is something they hate. The break down lane is for break downs or for them to navigate around stopped traffic. **** with it at your peril.

Since Romo is under contract, CBS can do nothing decisive like termination until Romo is convicted.

Leave of absence until pending charges are resolved obviously.

Absolutely. And if Jerrah didn’t provide one, Tony could afford his own. I'm sure that his VM is overflowing.

It’s a safety issue. Several MA highways legalize the use of the breakdown lane during rush hour. I hate that.
