PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp Day 4

They played everyone else but him after injuries last year. In the end he wasn't even dressing.

He was on the roster all season, however, but only played 19 snaps.

Things can go either way.
Unlike the prior Coaching Staff, Vrabel's staff put the rooks at a position and left them there. So they could learn.

Let's go back. The Pats had Campbell and Wilson go down week 12. The Pats immediately signed Munford, a veteran who had experience with the McDaniels offense. That immediately put him ahead of Bryant who had been getting some spot reps and special teams snaps to that point.

The Pats made the decision to go into games with with 8 OL. 3 OT, 4 IOL and then Wallace who could play RT in an emergency.
That's why they called up Jaimes off the PS 3 times. To be a back-up OC/OG in case they lost Brown to injury.

It was about the positions the guys on the roster could play.

And yes. I know that Bryant had experience at both LT and RT in college. But that takes me back to Vrabel/Marrone making the decision to only play rookie O-LINE at a single position.

In late July, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, a prominent NFL insider who frequently covers the Patriots, stated that the organization is trying "to do right by" Boutte by finding him a new home where he can secure a larger role. Breer reported that the Patriots would have accepted a fifth-round draft pickfor Boutte during the 2026 NFL Draft, though no offers materialized at that time.

Similarly, Mike Reiss of ESPN, noted that Boutte’s absence from voluntary offseason workouts coincided with reports that the player was available.

I thought it was just some posters speculating?
Reiss was not speculating at all. He's much more informed on what Patriots are thinking.
Breer was speculating. He doesn't know **** and hes never been well- connected with tge Pats.
Of national media, Shefter and Rappaport have been much more connected with NE than Breer

Where did you read that?

Not Bedard.

You're only reading clowns if that what you see.
You missed Wozzy's sarcasm...

Considering someone in this thread compared Doubs to the signing of JJ Smith-Schuster, is Wozzy really that far off?

Pats better not bungle this Boutte situation. There's only been 3 WR's the Pats drafted and developed this entire century that have panned out (Branch, JE, Meyers). And 2 of the 3 they let walk in FA. Don't wait for a bidding war after someone gets hurt, someone busts, and then it comes the offseason and we're stuck having to overpay for our own lowround gem to stay.

(KW is on the path to bust, and Doubs may be a no-show this year)

I don't dispute that he is one of the three best, but I think before camp the team felt they were set at WR without him..
Why would they feel that 4 days ago and not now? There is no reason for a team with a 3 wr base offense to think they are all set without one of their 3 best.

THAT'S IT, I can't take it anymore. It is driving me NUTS, watching mediots and fans ascribing wins and losses from OL/DL "battles" during a shorts and T-shirt walkthrough practice. How the **** can you make player judgements that matter until the contact is live ESPECIALLY when it involves the OL and DL. You can't and yet we and they do anyways.

That's 2 full pages of judgement made on zero evidence. Sure you can see INDICATIONS of how a player is doing during these drills, but making judgments is ludicrous and having us giving them credibility by seriously commentating on these "reports" diminishes the intelligence of our fanbase.

just sayin'

@patfanken - Ken.. Be careful. You're going to cause too many people's heads to explode by using logic.

We have a thread about this right now. I don't think you get much of a discount if you extend now. If you do then maybe. If not let him test the market. I'd like him back. But it needs to be at a fair deal for both sides.
Yes, the controversy in that thread motivated my throwing gasoline here, lol.

I’m inclined to wait and see, and if he is continuing to perform well deep into the season I’d give him an extension for a couple of years with easy exits after each season. He’s been dependable and I think he’s a good value as long as performance isn’t eroding quickly.

Gonzo, and his agent, also have to show some understanding as well.
they have no leverage.
Gonzo is on a 2/$23m deal with his option year exercised.
Gonzo would be foolish to risk $75m+ fighting over another $5m
sure, Gonzo can sit out, but them he gets zero

Pretty sure that GONZO did show some understanding by, basically, telling the media that it's none of their damn business..
He also said he's here to play.

Showed exactly the right professionalism.

Gonzo was very politically correct
but he is signed for 2 years, for $23m
he can choose not to play and not get paid, and if and when he does come back, he still has 2 years
or he can sign the top of CB market deal
of course the details need to be detirmined, but he simply cannot risk injury with out a deal
either sign a deal, or sit down

Ugh.. not enough running the hill
Wonder how long they sit him for to let it rest and heal properly..
I hope they give him plenty of time. He’s an experienced veteran, he knows the job. Give the backups as much experience as possible.

Woods is a 4th CB. He's a vet special teamer with spot experience. I would expect Vildor to do the same thing. I would expect Prunty to be pushing for that spot sooner than later. Same with Dial.

I'll be worried about CB depth if they have to put 2-3 onto IR.
I’ve seen more mentions of Vildor than Woods in reports from camp, so I have the impression Vildor has been getting more reps. He, Prunty, and Dial all seem to me likely to end up ahead of Woods anyway.

42 days left before opening night in Seattle!!!

But that takes me back to Vrabel/Marrone making the decision to only play rookie O-LINE at a single position.

And yet Lomu has taken snaps at both tackle positions plus some at guard as well as jumbo TE. Hard to say what’s a general coaching philosophy and what is specific to an individual player’s needs and abilities.

Hollins had the most snaps of any wr last year.

I think that says what the team thought about wr last year even if you disagree.

I have read that Lomu has only seen snaps at RT and TE/Jumbo 6th

He was a project. I get it.

I think he's fighting Crownover for one spot mostly, especially if Bryant doesn't take the second year step forward.

But why would you think that?
Patriots never gave any indication they were thinking of trading Boutte.
This was all in the minds of a few mediots

Maybe, but it was widely reported, the team has three wrs on expiring contracts, and Boutte sat out in June, so it makes sense.

That's not throwing Gonzo under the bus.. FFS. That's stating that the Pats are trying to do best by the team AND the player.
100% agree. Ohhh is Gonzo butt hurt by RFK stating some facts relative to the contract offer. A team willing to pay that type of contract has a right to give some indication to the fans of where they stand in the negotiation.
