DRAFT Welcome to New England - Illinois Edge Gabe Jacas! (2nd round, #55)

Campbell is taller and heavier than Tunsil, Williams and Sewell (by an inch/a few pounds). Prototypical LT size, except for the wingspan.
I' not saying he can't do the job at LT, i always felt he could. But i will say he needs to get into the wgt room. Even though he was about 320lbs a lot of that wgt is flubber. I remember he took his shirt off during a celtics game and vrable comment he New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel joked about firing the team's strength coach after seeing a viral video of rookie offensive tackle Will Campbell taking his shirt off and chugging a drink at a Boston Celtics game.
Now back to jackass..i mean jacass

I saw a video of WC working out with about a half dozen pro bowl LT tackles at a summer camp. He looked like a midget in comparison. They all were physically bigger and looked much stronger
He’s 6’6” 320, the other linemen must all be 6’9” and 350 pounds.

What is your allegation about “ apparent non-disclosure of injuries” based on?

Disagreement about terms of the participation agreement seems unrelated to disclosure. I doubt details of customized participation agreements are routinely discussed pre-draft. Seems much more likely the team surprised Jacas and his agent by changing the terms from the standard participation agreement. We have no way to know whether that changes was made in response to some undisclosed information regarding the injury or procedure, but it seems irresponsible to assume it was without evidence. So, what is that evidence?
On my walk this morning I listened to the Tom Curran & Phill Perry podcast, they admitted it’s been hard to get information on the situation, from what they pieced together the Pats didn’t offer the camp injury waiver that states if you get injured in camp you still get paid, they mentioned they did this because of an injury/surgery that wasn’t revealed to the team, if any of that is true to me that’s the agent saying we shouldn’t tell the team and a young man believing his agent is doing what’s best for him.

A very high % of Olineman look like that with their tarp off.

Remember the Shemar Stewart dispute last off-season? After all that , he plays 8 games with a whopping 1 sack and gets a knee injury by week 8 of the season. Holds out rarely end well for players. He, his agent and the Pats need to get this done quickly.

Agreed on getting it done quickly, priority #1.
Stewart was highly unproductive in college, he was drafted on projection and athletic profile.
He may well have struggled even without a holdout.

I agree with you that many o-lineman do look mostly fat upper body wise. I remember seeing Dan Koppen standing on the sidelines without his shirt or pads during a game and wondering how he could be so good, he had No muscle definition, just flabby. I was never trying to start a discussion about campbelle, ive never posted a negative word about him, he did a fine job a lt tackle until he got hurt.

Translation: He has some sort of pre-existing injury, and we are damned if we are going to give him a guarantee for anything related to that injury. We'll give him the standard guarantee based on his slot, but we want some sort of an exclusion for his pre-existing injury.

No comp pick for Pats if Jacksss sits out year and re enters draft next year

Inexcusable mistake on front office part

Plus they traded up to get him

Vrabel as head man deserves blame if this happens

Lack of due diligence before the draft

Can not temember last time a front office messed up a draft pick like this and walked away with nothing

Pats have until August 10 to trade Jacas if this continues to not go anywhere.

That was about what he produced in college. Terrible terrible pick.

Maybe he should agree to sign and then Welch on it.
I wonder if he could tell the Patriots he will never play for them and then change his name and sign with them?

Of course this is a stellar posts to follow up Vrabels “it will get done, I’m positive it will” comment right above it.

The names may chamber big the ignorance remains.

Here's my guess as to what's actually going on:
Jacas is not completely healed from his off-season procedure. If he reports for a physical now he will get no guarantee for anything related to that knee. He might even end up on PUP. So his agent is pushing him to delay reporting until he is a 100% go. Can't be that far off given his workout posts.

While it is surprising to me that no mediot has been able to find out the exact reason for the impass, here is may thoughts on why this is happening.

I the last couple of years 2nd round picks have gotten more and more of their contracts guaranteed until this year, most of them have gotten fully guaranteed 4-year contracts. That is likely what Jacas wants too. The actual dollar amount isn't the issue. I'm guessing that when Jacas had his "procedure" this off season, that was a surprise to the Pats. Nothing was probably mentioned to the Pats. So, you can understand how the Pats lost some trust in Jacas' team and probably don't want to give him a fully guaranteed contract.

THAT is the impasse. As I see it, the Pats have every right to be pissed at the Jacas team and have every right to protect themselves by not guaranteeing his full 4-year deal. Clearly Jacas' team disagrees with my assessment. They don't want to be known as the only agents who didn't get their client a fully guaranteed 4-year deal. not a good reputation to have when you are recruiting new meat. In the long run they are hurting their client.

This whole contract is short money anyway. If he is planning a 7–12-year career, the SECOND contract is where he will make his generational money and that will happen after his 3rd year by an extension or in FA after his 4th year. This is nickel and diming him. He needs to be in camp. Jacas is not making any friends if he holds out longer than this weekend.

If i was Jacas i wouldn't sign for less than my draft slot either, it's the Patriots job to check all the medical stuff.

They're probably haggling over a few hundred grand over 4 years which is dumb Kraft probably spends more than that on helicopter fuel flying to practice why wouldn't you just pay the money, the pick before Jacas got 8.8m over 4 years the last pick in the 2nd round got 7.8m over 4 years.

If they're wanting Jacas to take a little less for not disclosing an injury they're really going to sink the season for this player and create bad will over what? 50k-100k a year over 4 years?

Stupid.

I don't think it is money. My guess is that the Pats don't want to guarantee the salary for an injury on his undeclared injured knee, and Jacas wants a complete guarantee.

It's NOT taking anything less than the $8.8MM, it's taking less GUARANTEED.
