OT: Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs reportedly agree to reworked contract valued at more than $500 million

31 fanbases hope that Mahomes is broken down and all washed up so they create a fantasy world where he is just that.

Of those 31, 30 fanbases are same people that preached Brady was all done for a decade long.
They're called hypocrites and are very prevalent here.

No one chased him out of town huh? It seems like this board has revisionist history and has no idea what was going on behind the scenes since 2014. The dirty laundry was leaking around 2018 (which was dismissed here) and later got aired after Brady's departure/2020 season. Grab your favorite drink, relax in your favorite spot because we're going down memory lane:

BB was already looking for Brady's successor as early as 2014. But you could go back even further to 2009 when they played games with Matt Cassel as insurance to Tom Brady. Cassel made a massive mistake signing his franchise tender giving the Pats full control. That's a story for another day.

Tom House on having a conversation with BB after the 2013 season:

"Belichick called us in and said, 'OK, tell me why I shouldn't trade Tom Brady.' I think at this time Tom was 37 or 36," House said. "And I just said, 'Well the research shows that if Tom does the things that he's supposed to do ... there's no reason he shouldn't play until he's 45."

BB proceeded to waste a 2nd round pick on Jimmy G for him to play a whopping 6 quarters. Not to mention BB wasted a 3rd round pick after Brady's record breaking season on Kevin O'Connell. That was just flat out stupid. Believe it or not, every player is watching who the team drafts yearly.

The Pats were trying to sign a backup QB (Jimmy G) to an $18M AAV extension to replace Brady:

The Patriots repeatedly offered Garoppolo four-year contract extensions, in the $17 million to $18 million range annually that would go higher if and when he succeeded Brady. Garoppolo and Yee rejected the offers out of hand, for reasons that remain unclear, and the Patriots knew they couldn't make any promises to Garoppolo about the timing of a transition at quarterback without it getting back to Brady."

BB's initial intention was to trade Tom Brady to the 49ers in 2017 before Bob Kraft put an end to it:

"Miller quotes a current director of player personnel as saying, “We were calling Bill once a week, I swear to God, trying to get Jimmy. You might not remember this, but at the time, no one loved the (2018) quarterback class in the draft, and Garoppolo was set to be a free agent. Common sense says you trade him. And Belichick is the best at this — shipping off guys for draft picks — so we thought it would be an easy trade.”

It was, for 49ers GM John Lynch, who filched Garoppolo from New England for a second round pick. But not before Belichick tried to pass Brady onto the 49ers, Miller reports. But Patriots owner Robert Kraft forbade Belichick from offloading the GOAT."
"Brady, Belichick and Kraft haven’t been the same since Tom learned that Bill was ready to get rid of him. And that lit a fire under his (hindquarters).”

It's pretty obvious Tom Brady found out what was going on with Jimmy G. He had a meeting with Kraft and forced him to get rid of Jimmy G:

"Belichick reportedly left an hours-long meeting, during which Kraft issued the mandate: trade Garoppolo because he would not be in the team's long-term plans, and then, once again, find the best quarterback in the draft and develop him. Belichick was furious and demoralized, according to friends."

After the move had been announced, Wickersham reports Brady hugged owner Robert Kraft later that week, “in full view of teammates.”

This was short lived because the Malcolm Butler Super Bowl debacle happened where Tom Brady set passing records only to lose the game. This prompted several meetings at Bob Kraft's home because he was concerned Tom and BB's relationship was going south:

"She (Giselle) also pointed out how ridiculous it was that after all these years, Belichick still treated Brady like "f****** Johnny Foxboro." It was bad enough to never voice approval. It was ******** to still be dressing down the most accomplished quarterback in league history during team meetings and treating his personal trainer and best friend like some kind of outcast.

When the conversation shifted to the future, Brady and Bündchen indicated it was time for them to make some changes that were in the best interest of their family. Among other things, they were contemplating a change of scenery."

The meeting didn't go anywhere and Tom initially wanted out after the Eagles Super Bowl loss. Bob had another private conversation with Tom and was willing to let him go:

"Tommy, if you want to go, you can go," Kraft told Brady on a phone call during that time. "

Tom decided to return.

They just won a freaking Super Bowl, but posters still seem to be in heavy denial that the 2019 off-season wasn't a complete joke. BB wasn't even trying to maximize Brady's last season. From the disastrous Free agency signing retread after retread where none of the WR's stayed on the team. Giving Josh Gordan another chance when he quit on the team in 2018. Drafting one WR who was a complete doofus, a CB that wasn't needed, a RB that was caught the dreaded "Foxboro" flu gave Tom absolutely nothing to work with that season. After initially being cut, Demaryius Thomas only re-signed with the Pats because he was under the impression he was going to be on the 53 man roster. He was pissed when the bomb dropped on him he was traded to the Jets after AB signed.

"It was disrespectful to me," Thomas said. "Like, you know, you could trust me and I could trust you. You told me when you cut me at the (final) cut, sit around you'll bring me back. And I stayed. I could have easily become a Jet once I got cut. ... I could have been here the next day after I got released. But I chose to stay."

Gronk retiring earlier didn't help matters because was also tired of BB. One year prior, he cut communication off with the team after the Eagles loss. BB retaliated by trying to trade him to the Lions.

After all that, now the Pats were playing games not wanting to sign Brady to a measly 2 year $50M deal. That was when Tom made a business decision. According to Brian Hoyer, he was under the impression Brady was planning to sit out the season had Kraft not removed the Pats ability to tag him after 2019.

Years later, Kraft admits to Tom Brady Sr. that he made a mistake not re-signing Tom Brady:

"He just said, 'I made a mistake'."

"It appears that the decision to let Brady walk fell 100% on Belichick. According to an ESPN story from mid-January, Kraft was pretty irate after watching Brady win a Lombardi Trophy with another team."

"Bill had told me he couldn't play anymore, and then he goes out and wins the f---ing Super Bowl," Kraft reportedly said back in February 2021."

Do you see a pattern here? BB has been trying to find ways to push Brady out for years. So when I make a statement like I did in my previous post, I don't say it for absolutely no reason.

But...but the hypocrites would say: we were the Perfect Franchise with no dirty laundry. Can't wait for the mental gymnastics...get your popcorns ready.

Mahomes can play from too pocket stop hating.

If so he can't play like he did, he'll have to become a pocket passer. Not sure if he has what it takes to do that.
He’s honestly already been doing that to larger extents in recent years.

Will he be able to do it to Brady levels well his mid 40’s? Doubt it.

But he’s never really relied on extreme mobility to begin with, it’s largely more footwork which ages better.

Do you think he’s Mike Vick or something?

Having mobility doesn’t automatically mean you’ll retire early. That’s silly.

It's not just having mobility. Leaving the pocket is a huge part of his game, just like Josh Allen.
Name the last QB like that to play at a high level past 35.
I'll save you the trouble, Steve Young, and he was 37, and also sat on the bench for 3 years in the middle of his career. (And retired 30 years ago)

They just don't last. They typically fall off a cliff at age 30, unless they transition to a more pocket-oriented approach, like Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre did. Or like Lamar Jackson is attempting to do.

I take your 'ugh' as a concession that your ChatGPT didn't give you a good enough answer.

You know Tom Brady was 31 when he got that ACL Injury right?? You 'all are acting like Mahomes is 40.

Tom Brady was purely a pocket passer.
And Mahomes like vintage Aaron Rodgers and Purdy to some extent can extend plays by moving around. They're not statues in the pocket: and I didn't know Brady was purely a pocket passer. I must have missed that.

The last two seasons, they can't move the ball unless Mahomes leaves the pocket.

And I don't know how you missed Brady being purely a pocket passer, and if you can't tell the difference, then there's really no point in discussing it with you. Go to chiefsplanet and fanboi for your crush, I guess.

Aaron Rodgers transitioned to mainly a pocket passer by his 3rd season in the league. Comparing Brock Purdy's running to Patrick Mahomes running is one of the most laughable things you may have ever said.

And you've said some laughable things.

He is way ahead of schedule injury wise.

Mahomes was passing like nothing happened in 7 on 7 drills not missing a beat. Strong throws.

They can extend plays by moving around I never said running...though that is an option. Your hate for Mahomes is unreal.

Can't wait to see how we stack up in that game.

More often than not, KC is in a passing down and there is nothing but green grass 15 yards from the LOS.

So, Mahomes takes off with the ball going out of bounds untouched picking up the first down. Most runs are low risk.

First of all, Kudos for the effort. You know me and I always love a long post.

But the facts remain that pretty much of what you wrote just proves my point. I probably should answer you post point by point but I'm real busy today or lazy, I'm not quite sure, so I'll just hit the most egregious ones.

1. The Garapalo pick in 2014 proves BB wanted Brady gone. ********! It would have been criminal neglect if BB hadn't tried and get a good prospect QB to plan for the future of the team with a 38 year old QB. Remember Brady was an outlier at the time, and this is point where almost all QB's started to fade. They picked Jimmy up late in the 2nd. Most here thought it was a smart pick.

2, They could have easily gotten a first round pick for Jimmy. Again, ********!. Jimmy was never a threat to Brady, He proved over and over during Garappalo's stay that he was the better QB. Jimmy was good. Brady was better. Of course he was. He was the GOAT. And they didn't just get a 2nd round pick; they got one in the top 3 in the round IIRC. A quality pick. And who was going to give us a first round pick for a QB who essentially had 5 quarters of meaningful film in 4 years. Plus, the market knew that the Pats HAD to deal him or lose him for nothing and hope for a comp pick that would have been a bottom of the round 3rd...at best...the next year.

I'm sure there were rumors of a first. As fans who universally overvalue our own players, I thought getting a very high 2nd for JG was a damned good pick. Lots of risk for SF in that deal. Good prospect for sure with lots of talent, but essentially unproven. You know you would have gone nuts if the Pats gave up a first to get JG if the situation was reversed.

3. You, as ever, completely ignore the cap situation, and the roster situation. The Pats had gone all in and were rewarded with a 5 year run which saw them go to THREE Superbowl's in 4 years and a 8-0 start in the 2019 season before injuries and fatigue saw them limp to the playoffs and exit quickly. The run was OVER and came to its natural conclusion.

4. You, as ever, completely ignore that it was ALWAYS in Brady's best interests]to leave NE in 2020. That is why HE demanded the franchise tag be eliminated from the last year of his deal. That is why he sold his house. His wife was demanding to get out of Boston and down to somewhere warm...er.

5. Then you try and frame the 2019 draft and FA period like BB made all those picks and decisions simply to spite and sabotage Brady. Rain, the teams started out 8-0. There was 2007 talk. NO ONE was complaining about the roster. C'mon man.

The end result of the Brady saga was the correct one. Brady got his chance to move to a better team and compete for a title. We began a LONG 5-year decline (a nano-second in Jets time) and rebuild that resulted in the 2025 season.
