PATRIOTS NEWS OFFICIAL: Patriots Finally Acquire AJ Brown

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
2nd round is the max I would have offered
for a receiver who will be 29 when the season starts

We got 30 year old Randy Moss for a 3rd & AJ Brown is no Randy Moss

..and Randy Moss wasn't coming off 4 straight 1000yd seasons either, Selective memory much? But you ARE right, Brown is no Randy Moss. No one was.

Drsining the knee and the knee issues are wide spread on the Internet. So no, I am not claiming that.

==================================================================
You claimed that you knew what Roseman was thinking a couple of posts before telling someone else they can’t know what he is thinking.
Not sure what Drsining means.

I recommend adding gifs, they tend to annoy all the posters over 70.

I would not know. I am not a gif guy. I will differ to your expertise.

Happy that it is a 2028 1st. Of course the downside of that could be that he sucks by the time we give the pick up.

Hopefully he will resist his diva urges.

The first year led to a SB. How can you possibly think the SB window isn’t open? Are you mocking Seahawks fans which no their window is open?
Skipping this one.

They literally have a full offseason next year and the free agency period before the draft in 2028 to lessen the impact of not having a 1st in 2028.

There is no take in there it is a straight fact.
OK. Great. Let's hope. It might work.

If he sucks, he sucks. We won't know until they actually play.

I promise @captain stone has his 2026 offseason notes all ready to go for 2028, just in case.

One big point in favor of AJ Brown that some haven't considered is the financial aspect.

Since the Eagles took a large portion of the financial hit for trading Brown, this will benefit the Patriots salary cap.

If we assume that the Patriots pick up Browns' option each year and pro-rate it over the 5 years of the deal this is how he will impact our cap.

Year 1. 2026. $6.79 million.
Year 2. 2027. $10.956 million.
Year 3. 2028. $10.956 million.
Year 4. 2029. $32.75 million but ZERO guaranteed money. Patriots can walk away or negotiate an extension.

So in terms of salary Brown's first 3 years with the Patriots are very team friendly.
This allows us to continue loading up in free agency concurrently with Drake Maye's modest rookie QB salary.
Now if we want to keep Brown past 2028 then we need to get financially creative since he won't want to play with ZERO guaranteed money.

But now let's consider the average salary of a top 10 WR1 in the NFL is 30 million dollars and up.

For the next 3 years we get our WR1 for 1/3 the money that most teams PAY that position.
Also factor in we deferred the 1st round pick to 2028 whick makes it equivalent to a 2027 2nd in the trade value chart.
The AJ Brown trade could end up looking a very smart deal when we look back on it as long as he performs up to his usual standards.

Huh,. It's too bad the deal isn't pending a physical otherwise they might have found something wrong.
Everyone knows there is something wrong. That is not in dispute. The Pats are betting that they can get two years out of Brown since he has a low cap hit which does not disrupt signing Gonzo or Maye. The Eagles, Roseman, doubt the Pats will get a highly productive two years out of Brown. Who knows the most?

Just because Roseman is a top GM does not mean he automatically gets to win trades.

I would feel better if the 5th was coming TO the Pats and not from them.
Only time will tell who won the trade. I do not like home run swings in Y2 of a rebuild, I would perfer to keep the assets.

And you could legitimately pay Boutte, if his management team stops huffing their own farts.
Or bring Diggs back for a year.

There is still plenty of space to make moves, they're not hamstrung to the cap.

"Everyone"... lol ok.

Yes. Fear.

Thanks

Well I appreciate Boutte being a good sport about this. But he probably sees the writing on the wall. If the Patriots can get any kind of draft value in return, Boutte is probably moving on soon.

UNLESS. And this is a big caveat, he's willing to take a reasonable intermediary deal before hitting free agency. 3/33 extension, what do you say Kayshon? Do you want to stay with a Superbowl contender or will you chase the Big money your agent wants you to go after?

I see Boutee as being an important inclusion to the team. This is the NFL and you are only as good as your top backups because players WILL get hurt. If Brown or Doubs go down for any length of time, we will have a decent back up to fill. It might not be the best thing for Buttee's career, but it will certainly be the best thing for the 2026 Patriots that he be on this team and at his best

Well, we actually have results that can help answer that question.

The 2025 NFL Season.
