Boutte available for trade?

I've said this before and will say it again...Boutte's best route to securing a nice contract for himself is remaining here and getting to the next FA cycle.. he should embrace having guys like AJ around him or the TE raridon to control coverage..he then gets 3rd & 4th CB's.. But i can forsee how this plays out.. it will likely end up AJ, Doubs, Williams, Hollins as the primary guys..

Gilmore was a much larger gap of better. Both are true.

Gilmore was a DPOY-level player, as we found out.

The "much larger gap" is that, or IMO we can say it is a huge gap, and that's what makes it a false analogy, IMO.

I count 5 in the last 3 years, one of whom is the very player being argued you can't trade away for such a low pick because those types of players aren't good enough. Yet, he is one such player...

I didn't count the kickers. For one Baringer isn't even good.

I already counted Boutte. He's the 1 out of 23.

I did not count Pop Douglas.

If you want to count him, then it's 2 out of 23.

Are we really counting Julian Ashby as a success story?

Yea RF I dont agree with you on this one. He needs playing time and lots of catches. Sitting on the bench getting 200 yards on 2 catches a game isn't getting him anything. Hope we don't trade him and I hope he does amazingly well. Just think he is a good jag.

BB and his scouts saw Gilmore was an All Pro talent, PFF told us he was average.

Boutte is not tall, he’s not fast, explosive or extremely mobile. Improving the WR room starts with replacing the average starters with better starters.

He’s a nice little WR, but people here are vastly overrating him. He’s not going to turn into Calvin Johnson. He is what he is. We signed UDFA WR’s with more upside and they don’t need to get paid.

This isn’t a matter of like or dislike, it’s a financial and a team building decision.

This is very misleading on your part, Upstarter. You don't define what you consider a "Hit". Since you said 23 player, that seems to cover 2021-2025. (I added 2020 in case you were going 2020-2024) Personally, if you're attempting to grade drafts in the last 3 years beyond the player just being out of the league outright, you're not doing it right. The Players in Bold are ones who are regular contributors already.

I put in bold the obvious "hits"
Dial and Milton could be considered "hits" since Dial played 83% of the Special Teams snaps in 2024 and Milton was traded because Dallas wanted him as their back-up to Prescott.

We don't know what the Pats have in Swinson and Bryant as they were considered projects when drafted.

Once you define what you consider to be a hit, then we can talk percentages, but let's be honest, it's already more than the 1 you stated in your post.

How much more upside does Boutte have? Can we get more out of him, or is this it?

Some here think he has a lot of upside, some here aren't seeing it, and some aren't seeing a path for him to get the snaps to keep that development going.

K. Williams is also a factor into this.. I made mention that compare last off season 2025 in comparison this offseason.. for K. Boutte there wasn't any certainty he would had even made the team.. then.

Coaches might feel that way, and don't want to give up on KW, so want the time on and off the field to use on developing KW.

Boutte has the ability to make us regret we let him go, while we continue to wonder why the Pats cannot seem to draft WRs.

If that's the case, then never make any changes so you won't have anything to regret.

Instead, take a good look at what you have vs where you want to be, make your moves, and keep moving forward.

That's one thing that makes this similar to the Jakobi threads, the "you'll regret it" argument gets thrown in.

Correct and that's here..remember Jabar Gaffney? That's How I see Boutte in this role with AJ and Doubs.. they will help Boutte.. I also dont buy any notion the Patriots become desperate as they already made thier minds up that they needed to upgrade even with Diggs.. none of the starting WRs could uncover consistently in man coverage in the playoffs.. what did they do? Signed one of the best man beater WRs in the league in Doubs and another one incoming post June 1..

Yes. As a high pick was invested in K. Williams and his ceiling is no where near reached yet. He has serious speed on the outside and gets open ASAP off the LOS those are traits you can't coach. He'll need snaps with Drake.

he is under contract at a reasonable rate
if you lose him AFTER 2026 in free agency, so be it. get as much out of him on the field as you can now.

The minute that Douybs was signed told me that Boutte is on the move. They do the same exact job. If not this season, surely in 2027 when Boutte will be wanting to be paid like Doubs.

To date Boutte has shown up 1 season out of 3 and last season wasnt earth shattering. 2025 was a decent season for Boutte. He needs 2026 to be his calling card in UFA for 2027.

Here's the thing:

For me Boutee was a revelation last season. He made close to 600 yds receiving on what seemed like a moderate amount of targets. He caught the ball VERY well and seemed to consistently get separation, and when he didn't, he was good on those 50-50 balls. BUT he is NOT a guy who stands out. I think his ceiling is Jacobi Meyers and his floor is Givens or Hogan, 2 very solid receivers for us.

The reality of this upcoming season is that there should be a drop in targets for ALL our WR's, with them losing targets to more running attempts, more 2 TE formations, and more FB formations, which all take a WR off the field. So it would look like a perfect time to move on from Boutee, especially if Williams or Chism take the big 2nd year leap and if Dixon looks like he can be an NFL WR and make the PS.

But I would caution about moving on too quickly. Boutee is a perfect cheap quality back up to Doubs and Brown, and given how often guys get injured these days, I could see Boutee getting 10 starts this season and that's if neither gets a season ending injury, If he IS traded. I don't want to see him included in the Brown trade unless there is a 2nd day pick coming back to us. Also if he is traded, I want at least a 4th round pick for him. At 24 years old the kid has been a riser the last 2 years. He needs an early 3rd day pick in return. and more if he's traded at the deadline.

Not for nothin', but it's been a LONG time since we talked about having THIS kind of WR talent vying for spots on the roster.

I think we all realize this only happens if Brown is signed, or if Diggs is signed, or if both Brown and Diggs is signed. Otherwise, I think most of us would be surprised if he is moved.
