Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
No, I think they'd move Boutte to some other team after the fact - or perhaps not, maybe they just keep him for the final year of his deal, see what happens, and then let him explore free agency. But the room would be really crowded.
Why? Brown, Boutte, Doubs are your starting WRs.
Williams in the mix, earning more playing time, and replaced Boutte in 2027 if he proves capable.

Philly is going to take a significant dead money cap hit on Brown and they gave up a 1st and 3rd for him 4 years ago.

It would be one thing if AB Jr. was declining, but he is still putting up high numbers. If you show him 140 + targets you're talking about a 1500 yard - 10 TD WR. I personally don't want his drama axx, but the Eagles just drafted his replacement which is what I want to do by taking a young producer on his rookie contract.
AJ had no issues prior to his eagles stint. Go figure hurts was nearly traded in 2022 prior to AJ making him look like an all pro when he got there.

Sirrani is a hardo who doesn't really have control like Vrabel, Harbaugh, Shanahan have with thier rosters. Howie runs the show!

3 different OCs during his time. A QB that can't complete tight throws. Goes away from the gameplan and ignores his coaches

Give Drake the eagles OL, skill position player with his current coaching and we win the superbowl last season.

AJ may have had some issues but he's far from the problem in Philly.

AB Jr had issues in Tenn.

Shooting his way out of town. He refused to attend voluntary workouts just as he is doing in Philly. ABJ also bailed on his football camp that he had for Tenn kids. Its only a matter of time before he has problems in NE.

AJ wanted a new contact in Tennessee is why he was moved... in wich the GM was fired for. That's not true. I have relatives in Nashville and Memphis. He was always involved in community events and doing things with the schools. Nonetheless we are talking about a dysfunctional organization in Tennessee anyways..

Really hoping KW makes a significant jump this year. Romeo Doubs becomes a very dangerous WR with A.J. drawing coverage. Things will open up.

Vrabel was fired too.

AB Jr was a distraction in Tenn pleading his woes to the media. The same is going on in Philthy.

Seeing it from Howie's side, their fan base will think nothing but a first is enough to justify taking the salary cap hit. Also the fact is there are now several recent trades where veteran starters are traded for first rounders. If he takes anything less than a first, the mystique of Howie takes a big hit.

I have consistently said that I think this is a bad move from a team building perspective, but now also feel the deal has been agreed and it will be for at least a first. The idea that the deal is already done gets bolstered by the fact that Philly just took a WR in the first. They can now say look, it took a first to get someone good enough to replace Brown, we have to get a first back.
Well, what's the Eagles alternative? If they don't want to do say a 2 and a 4, keep him. Find another suitor. Good luck. I can't imagine how AJ could play for the Eagles after all the drama.

I guess it's all moot because I'm on board with the idea that there is a deal already in place. I'll be surprised if a first round isn't part of the deal. I'm sure Howie projected that he had another trade partner and/or could get him to play. If we could move him off this for less than a first then I will be pleasantly surprised.

I think you are on the wrong track here, T. The Eagles DID pay a premium price for Brown 4 years ago, but that was for a 25 year old Brown just entering his prime, and over the last 4 years they got back decent value on that pick. But THAT AJB is not the same one that will be coming here. THAT AJB has been a top 5-7 WR for most of that run. Now he's maybe a top 15 guy. That' would be a huge upgrade for us, but that doesn't mean his value around the league demands a first round pick AND taking on his salary. That's too much and that's why a second seems like a good deal for Howie.

As far as your fear about the appearance of him being a selfish player who might be a locker room problem, I don't think it's much of an issue. He CLEARLY wasn't happy in Philly despite his success there. I believe that has more to do with the coaching staff, the constant changes at OC, and his relationship with his QB than any character flaw. He has a good relationship with Vrabel, and Josh comes with a league wide rep as a great OC. I don't see this as a problem. He can be a leader on this team, especially in the WR room, where most everyone is under 26.

If we get him for less than a 1, and he can give us 3 years of go to service it will be a great trade.

BTW- Unless a deal has already been done and just waiting for June 1, I wouldn't be surprised to see a contending team try and squeeze in there with some offer just slightly better than ours. Buffalo might be willing. They can use another top end WR, plus keeping him from us.

I think the Eagles have more leverage than most thing, simply due to the fact that they could simply bite the bullet and have a disgruntled AJ Brown for a year.

Remember that if he plays poorly, he is unlikely to receive money come free agency, even if its not next year

That being said, my gut tells me its a second round pick plus a 4th

Having a disgruntled player in their locker room and taking on the salary hit is in no way leverage. That would be a huge distraction and they get nothing in return as far as draft capital and cap relief. That is throwing the baby out with the bath water

They have a cap hit regardless, and i think this team is too good to let one WR cause this much trouble, with the talent there

I think there is a bit of an exaggeration here on how bad the situation could be.

Can't imagine how Eagles have the leverage to demand a first.
They don't. I have a great deal of faith in Vrabel and Co. but I will be seriously disappointed in them if they give a 27' 1st for Brown. A 2nd I'll be ok with.

I’m just not giving a first for AJ
I truthfully only want to give a 3rd but a 2nd or move on

If Buffalo gets A.J. to go along with Moore and Kincaid we can just hand Allen his First Lombardi.

Per Schefter the Eagles have traded for Jonathan Greenard for a 3rd this year and 3rd next year, and paid him a new $100M contract. They are going to need some picks back and to cut some salary…
