Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Not by anyone who watched video of him.
Have you seen the Video when he ran by P Surtain and Hurts missed him?? Of Course not.

Another thing I've seen brought up in reporting is that the way Kraft wants the team run, they can have one large expenditure a year, and if they get Brown he'd be it. Meaning Gonzalez and Maye would each be pushed back a year. Which might, or might not cause a problem but would assuredly make them more expensive.

Huh!

So bill? You're saying you'd swap out the 9th ranked overall defense and AFCC for the 30th ranked Washington defense?

Ya I get what you're saying on we had some mercenaries as well..but the patiots overall roster is far much better than that of the commanders.

No my point is that I would take Seattle's D players over ours, most often ranked #2 last season.

My main point of comparison is to the team that won the Super Bowl, that's the level we want to be at.

The WFT thing was an aside about putting too much stock in what we achieved in 2026.

Sorry if what I wrote was unclear.

I'd be cautious on moving Boutte.. a drafted wr who's actually working out and had gotten better each season. Those are the guys you keep in your organization with/without AJ. Pop is the likely candidate IMO.
The cost of WR's is obscene, he's going to want to get paid. AJ Brown outside is an upgrade to Boutte. Doubs is a bigger, better target, he's going to get his snaps. If I'm the Patriots I want to get Kyle Williams more involved and more targets. Williams is faster and more explosive than Boutte, he is also younger and cheaper. I'd want to hold onto Douglas and Chism to see if one of them could emerge in the slot. If not you can trade Douglas at the deadline or let him walk next offseason. Keeping Boutte is creating a logjam, but like I said earlier I'd part with either him, Douglas or Hollins for that matter, but nobody is going to want someone that old.

Looking like something may be materializing here...

A name that has come up in trade talks is Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte, who is entering the final year of his contract, according to multiple league sources. With Romeo Doubs coming in and the eventual AJ Brown trade, teams believe he could be available for the right price. Jordan Schultz (@jordanschultz) on Threads
AJ Brown on one side, Kyle Williams on the other side and Doubs in the slot is a really tough cover for any opponent. Doubs inside can give you some of that blocking prowess Hollins provided and give Drake a bigger target he can see.

Schefter seems to suggest he’s coming to NE after June 1…

Adding Boutte in addition to the 2 is just terrible asset management. If Wolf agrees to this he should be flamed on this board for being completely owned by Roseman.
and this happens, it would be all Wolf's fault. ROFL

Doubs is a upgrade trust me twin.. on/off the field.. the guys one of the best wr in the league at beating man coverage.. I want us a TE in the draft round 3!
Brown is upgrade over Diggs
Doubs is an upgrade over Boutte
2026 Williams is an upgrade over 2025 Williams
Hollins is Hollins (unchanged)
Henry is Henry (unchanged)
Hill is an upgrade over Hooper
==========
OVERALL
2026 receivers are an improvement over 2025 receivers, especially with better blocking and improved QB play.

AS AN ASIDE
I'm not even sure that a 5th WR would be active in most games, especially if we draft a TE.

Boutte, Douglas, and Chism would be competing for a roster spot or two.

I wouldn't move anyone. Let them battle it out and whomever we don't need we can then think about moving. We have not had a legit wide receiver room since 07. Let's enjoy this possible luxury for a bit.
We don't need draft choices (LOL). Let players who we know are likely not making the team compete in a case there is an injury. I guess that this make sense, but I'm fine with Boutte OR Douglas competing for the # WR spot with a 6th round draft choice.

I don't see why WR is that big a need.
.
We all have our views.

Some think that a #5 WR will get almost no 2026 receptions.

Some think that it is critical that we have SEVEN WR's active in addition to our 3 TE's, 2 RB's and a FB. FOURTEEN targets is definitely NOT excessive for them. After the Brown trade, we will have 7 WR's, even presuming that one WR's goes as part of the trade.

OUR WR ROOM
Brown, Doubs, Hollins, Williams
Boutte, Day 2 draftee, Boutte, Chism

. My 2 cents:

Schefter's speculation just reiterates the SAME points we have been talking about for more than 90 pages.

1. This deal won't happen until after June 1. - Well, what a revelation, Adam

2. The deal will likely happen with the Patriots - Well, what a revelation, Adam

3. The deal will likely be for a #1 pick in '27 or 28. Well, Howie just called to say thank you, Adam.

4. AJ Brown's time in Philly is over - Actually that IS news. I figured it was 50-50 that he would stay.

Those are essentially the 4 items of "news" that Schefter supposedly broke this morning. And I'm pretty sure the parameters of a deal have already been worked out already. I'm hoping it doesn't include a future #1 but I think it will be a 2nd and a player.

Now we would have a WR room of AJB - a top 10 WR in the league. Doubs - a first down machine who can give us a repeat of what Diggs gave us last year. Williams - explosive speed we hope will give us a 2nd year leap. One of Boutte/Douglas - Boutte is a rising asset, and Douglas hopefully will progress his route running vs zones in his 2nd year with Josh's offense. Hollins gives Maye a big reliable target. and we will see how Chism progresses.

That is a BIG upgrade to the WR room and that's before the draft. That's why there is NO reason to add a day one or two WR. Instead, we need to take advantage of a strong TE class and grab one on day 2. TE is priority. We will probably be in 2 TE sets more than we are in 3 WRs sets this year. Also, our RB's will see an increase in looks this season. I think our best WR draft option will happen on day 3 after the 4th round. From what I'm hearing, there are a bunch of uber quick slot guys that can be gotten in the 5th or 6th round. One of these could be used if Douglas is the "player to be named later" in the Brown deal.

That fact that the Bungles gave up the 10th pick in the draft for Lawrence is NOT going to help us in bargaining for AJB. I'd offer a 28 first or a 27 2nd and Douglas and perhaps a 5th, OR you can agree with whatever Howie wants, then announce the trade and do a Ravens and fail him in the physical and demand less compensation for being willing to take on "damaged goods" That could work.
One piece of news has been added: a very trusted source.

Hollins is Hollins (unchanged)
Henry is Henry (unchanged)
If players are slowing down in their 30's...maybe their status is not "unchanged." IMO both players "could" be a downgrade from last year. But we won't know that until the regular season.

No coincidence that Shefter got the latest scoop

There's a few versions of this floating around on the Internet...

You are free to think that if you want, but I think it's a rationalization.

Yes, our offense sucked, but I don't think our D was Super Bowl quality.

I thought the offense hung them out to dry. You just can't be on the field that long without paying a price for it.
