Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Yes, the same team that gave up 29 points in the Super Bowl, and has lost a lot of pieces on D since then.

And above we see Philly still thinks they'll be getting a 1st.
And in the Dexter Lawrence thread I went through Barnwell's lastest piece.
That piece makes a strong point that trading 1sts for players closing in on their 30s needing new contracts is now a trend.
So, we shall see how much leverage we really have.
I think we all agree there's no way in hell they give up a 1st.

You realize to lose a Super Bowl you need to get to one first. This team is starting in the better position now than last offseason. They lost some role players on D, the starters are all still there and the draft is next week.

The market determines worth, when they realize they’re not getting a first they will take the best available offer.

Otherwise the Pats move on and WR becomes a bigger draft need. No need for alarm in either case.

Dunno, based on what I saw last year he seemed to lack separation skills.
Same thing people were saying about Moss in 2006, similar to what some Giants press were saying about Saquon before he became an Eagle.

Old guys aren’t holding back, they see the light at the end of the tunnel. Give him one of the biggest arms in the NFL, block well… watch magic happen.

Yep, he had 1k even in a down year. Admittedly some of the issues were on his end, saw some drops and might have quit on some routes but hopefully that improves somewhere that he is happy.

Maye with a true #1 will soar to new heights, pretty exciting for us if we get this done
Absolutely! Pretty much imminent coming from schefter this is draft week.. so this is where the deals come to fruition I can bet you the deal is already agreed upon to wait until June 1st at 4pm to make is official. Look at the moves eagles habe made recently they know AJ is gone.

Now looking at the wrong group:
AJ, Doubs, Boutte, Williams, Hollins pop*

This significantly helps the running game in wich already had been upgraded by vera-tucker ,Gilliam and Hill. Rham & Henderson will average 5,6 ypc.

Brown
Doubs
Boutte/Williams
Henry/day 2 rookie
Stevenson/Henderson

Easily their best group of pass catchers since 2017.
Meh... those guys have nothing on nkeal Harry and Mohammed sunu..

You realize the Washington Commanders got to the NFC Championship two seasons ago then went 5-12 last season?
As the old saying goes, past performance is no indicator of future returns.
Our defensive starters gave up 29 in the Super Bowl and IMO it was because they were outclassed.
The team may or may not find better replacements for the role players in the draft.

I hope they see it this way, but I have reasons to see why they won't.
The dead cap hit for trading him is massive.
They very well might keep him around and try to manage the situation rather than accepting less than a first.

I don't see why WR is that big a need.
Sure if WR is BPA when they are on the clock, they take one.
Yet if OL/DL/EDGE/ILB is BPA, they go that way instead.

They have to draft well… nobody is denying that. Poor drafting and injuries could doom them, ask me after the draft if I think they had a good one. This is why I never make predictions until after I see the final roster.

Assuming the Pats don’t make the foolish decision to overpay in return compensation all they have to do is pay him. It’s a lot, but it’s a short term commitment.

If they know Brown is here, they can focus on other areas in the draft. AJ Brown is a big upgrade on the outside to last year’s options or what they currently have. Building the best team possible is why.

All strong points. The front office had a strong draft last season. I too am looking forward to where we are after the draft.

He has clearly lost a step. He doesn't have the same burst he used to have. And he ain't a Moss type generational guy. If they pay anything more than a second, maybe a third then they are really stupid.

I personally don’t really see where hes lost a step, he was never really a burner to begin with. Most of the bad i saw from him were lacksadaisackle (spell check isn’t helping me out for some reason) that just seemed odd for him. Could be declining but given his age im leaning towards him not being engaged.

Fair, but that means nothing more than a 3rd to me then. I'm all for it for the right price, he has plenty to offer.

Yeah he had his moments but I dunno to me he seemed a tick slow quite often. Who knows though, I didn't time his 40.
Well. His body language at times last season seemed off and one could clearly tell it was something else transpiring

Defense gave up points because they were consecutively on the field for the entirety of the game. Our offense kept giving the ball back to Seattle the more opportunities you have on offense it's only a matter of time and that's the story.

The Patriots organization is in a much better position than Washington was in 2024. Washington had dysfunctional all throughout the organization with Snyder. Without getting to deep here. Points I'm trying to make is Drake.. is although I like Daniels.. Drake is a better QB and has better coaching and a better overall team around him. Not a bunch of mercenaries like Washington had.

And have1300yds receiving with 14 TD's: the spin doctors will changed their tunes. On this washed up over the hill WR.

On the other hand with your track record if he ends up here he will turn into Calvin (300 yards) Ridley.

Send Boutte and a 4th round pick… deal done.
I'd be cautious on moving Boutte.. a drafted wr who's actually working out and had gotten better each season. Those are the guys you keep in your organization with/without AJ. Pop is the likely candidate IMO.

Nah, just Boutte and a 4th.
Looking like something may be materializing here...

A name that has come up in trade talks is Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte, who is entering the final year of his contract, according to multiple league sources. With Romeo Doubs coming in and the eventual AJ Brown trade, teams believe he could be available for the right price. Jordan Schultz (@jordanschultz) on Threads

Hmmmmm I wonder if we could use Boutte in a Trade up possibility??

Of course, Vrabel has talked to Moses. So?
So it's probably safe to say they talked BEFORE free agency and Moses told him he's planning on playing a full season and safe to say that Vrabel has enough confidence in that to bypass RT in free agency.

In my eyes that doesn't make RT any less of a priority but that's certainly a positive sign.

I'd say it's one thing to leave a starting position to be addressed in the draft when it's a high pick like we had last year, but another if you have to wait til the end of the 1st round or later to address a starting position

To put it another way, I don't think Vrabel learned that Moses isn't up to another season and then signed Hudson for $1.4 mil to be the starter.
