They will need to comply with the Rooney rule [two in-person interviews with minority coaches] before hiring. Kuhr is likely to be the next DC, but other options exist [e.g., Jim Schwartz].

Yeah it's all a formality. The job is Kuhr's.

Sounds like a good plan. Excited that Kuhr will be the DC, he did great this year.

There's a small chance they'll decide to go with someone like Jim Schwartz or Shane Bowen (who worked with Vrabel), but, yeah, I expect it'll be Kuhr.

Wouldn’t a higher ranking role mean Assistant Head Coach? If Kuhr keeps doing a great job and gets hired as head coach some where then Terrell Williams can become DC again, a back up plan.

It says "high-ranking role", not "higher-ranking". Given cancer wasn't his only health issue, I'm not sure they'd want to give him more duties.

It would kind of be a stab in the back not keep Kuhr as DC but Jim Schwartz is on the market and you know it's a billion dollar business and etc..

Cool - I wondered how they were going to handle this.

Seems like giving them BOTH promotions is a good way to go

@ctpatsfan77 I changed the title of the post to hopefully make it clearer what it’s about. Apologies for that!

Regarding the actual story, great to see. Myself and many others hoped they would do basically exactly this, but it felt sort of like it would be hard or unlikely to actually happen. So, great to see it actually occur! Kuhr did an excellent job learning on-the-job, imagine how he performs with a full offseason of prep while also not needing to coach linebackers at the same time.

It's basically the same in my book; I just wanted it to be clear that Williams isn't leaving.

I went back and re-read the article, you were right good catch.

This really was the only solution to a burgeoning **** storm ... glad Vrabes had the nuts to make the decision

This seemed like the only solution but also felt so unlikely to actually happen. I’m somewhat surprised

Is Schwartz a really good DC ? I mean, I like the job Kuhr did, but if Schwartz is great DC, I would hope they would speak to him. I’m all for making the team better, so if Schwartz is the better choice, sign the beast.

May the Schwartz be with you.

Schwartz is a great DC
Just saying

They're not going to hire outside for the role lol.

Zero chance. The job is going to the guy who's been running the defense for the last 5 months.
The only reason I'm not 100% sure of this is there are guys Vrabel has worked with. But I sure as hell wouldn't bet against Kuhr.

I wouldn't understand the logic of not hiring the guy who has performed about as well as one can expect in the role already.

Just my thoughts
